CHAPTER 385: FALL OF AN ALPHA? [3]

Millis flicked her hand up and caused the entire hole to be filled with a solid layer of stone. With that, Lillian dashed forward in the direction of the Alpha along with the Heroine.

The Alpha flinched at the newly created ground. And as it watched as Lillian and Millis rapidly approached it, it too moved forward.

The sight of its metallic armour gleamed into Lillian’s eyes as she summoned her scythe in her right hand. Then, with a large swing, a wave of electricity shot out like lightning.

It crashed into the Alpha and washed over it like a tsunami. The electricity from her attack wriggled over its body like ants-sized snakes.

The Alpha stiffened for a split second as pure yellow streaks suddenly shot from its back and split towards the chambers hidden in the walls.

[You have slain a Savage Wretch, Unborn Barrel Mole]

[You have slain a Savage Wretch, Unborn Barrel Mole]

[You have slain...]

Lillian widened her eyes slightly, not having anticipated that her attack would reach the eggs she had yet to destroy.

And because of that, a soft whisper grew louder; however, just a moment after, the noise died down considerably as the runes etched into her gauntlets grew brighter.

[Curse Resistance].

Just like the runes on her gauntlets, the runes etched into the curved blade of the scythe grew brighter as well.

[Killing Edge]: the enchantment that would cause her scythe to grow sharper after each kill.

Lillian shot Millis a split-second glance and watched as the Heroine nodded back. Lillian stepped forward and—pushing most of her strength into her right leg—leapt upwards.

After boosting her legs with the power of the enchantments in her boots, she managed to reach a height of about 5 metres.

But that wasn’t enough to reach the Alpha’s face.

Lillian stomped on the air, which magically created a transparent platform underneath her feet. Then, using that very same platform, Lillian leapt up again—reaching 10 metres off the ground.

The Alpha watched as it quickly approached its head. Its multiple eyes blinked and flashed with a rageful yellow light as it raised its right arm for a horizontal swing—intending to swat her out of the way.

SWOOSH!

Its arm swept through the air, its hand causing winds to crash against Lillian’s side. The winds then whispered a prediction of her imminent doom.

...

Time slowed once more, stopping for a brief moment.

But as though in control of time itself, Millis caused the world to resume once more with a swipe upwards with her hand.

A pillar of hardstone erupted from the ground and slammed into the malicious arm of the Alpha, which was still in motion. And due to this, the Alpha’s swing was knocked slightly upwards—off course.

Having completely missed his target, Lillian created another platform in the air and leapt upwards once more for another 5 metres—allowing her to eye the Alpha at its eye level.

All this happened in a mere 40 seconds.

Lillian stared into the eyes of the humongous beast and at her reflection that slowly drew back a black scythe.

With her weapon still sharpened by its enchantment, Lillian slashed her scythe at its face with merciless speed.

SKRR!

A long, horizontal slash mark appeared on the metal mask covering its face, along with an ear-bleeding screech like nails on a chalkboard.

Lillian’s lips widened into a large grin at the damage. However, it soon dropped as she found it was all her attack did, as not even a drop of blood seeped out.

While Lillian was still airborne, the Alpha glanced at the deep mark on its mask with its many eyes before trembling.

Its eyes shook at the sight of its precious armour being damaged, and because of that, a burning fury appeared deep within its eyes.

Right as Lillian was about to go in for another swing—

PSHT. PSHT. PSHT.

—Her body became punctured by several metallic spears of considerable length.

Lillian, having her attacked area into water in time, looked down at the monster’s whiskers with a scowl. Seeing that it would leave her more in danger being held up in the air, Lillian morphed her entire body into water and slipped through its whiskers.

As countless sharpened metallic wires pierced and passed through her body, she was left undamaged and safe.

However, right as Lillian was about to reach the ground, the Alpha suddenly widened its overly large maw that took up a proportionate amount of its body.

Lillian’s "eyes" widened at this.

She quickly transformed back into water, and right before the yellowed teeth of the Alpha snapped down, Lillian utilised the teleporting enchantment on her boots.

After managing to teleport out and around 10 metres away, Lillian breathed a sigh of relief before finding a shadow loom over her.

Quickly looking up, she found the claw of the Alpha descending down at her diagonally with unprecedented speed.

Just before Lillian morphed her body into water, she found something appear over her before wrapping around her waist with an even quicker speed.

Viesta, having pulled Lillian out of the way, flashed her revolver out and—

BANG! BANG! BANG!

—Fired three separate bullets with keen focus, all targeting the eyes of the Alpha.

The claw of the Alpha crashed into the ground and cracked open a crater. Then, almost without its control, several whiskers shot upwards.

Viesta’s bullets, which were about to hit their mark, were swatted out of the way—redirected to the ground.

Viesta blinked and hummed slightly at this. She then watched as Millis began running up the arm that was still pressed into the ground.

The Heroine climbed up its arm with seamless ease, utilising the speed buff that her items gave her.

The Alpha lifted its arm and caused her to lose her balance. However, by clutching onto the edge of one of the Alpha’s metal plating, Millis still kept on.

And after a split moment of stabilisation from the Alpha, Millis immediately shot back onto her legs and continued dashing up its large, thick arm.

The Alpha, seeing that Millis kept on advancing, raised its whiskers at her, intending to skewer her.

SWISH. SWISH. SWISH.

However, before they made contact with Millis’s body—

BANG! BANG! BANG!

CLANG. CLANG. CLANG.

—Bullets shot through the air and made contact with the whiskers.

But unlike rebounding off of it, the whiskers were suddenly blown back by some mysterious force.

Viesta grinned as she watched that happen.

This was one of her spells and one of her most trusted ones.

[Echoing Force].

Through the application of her Element—the Element of Echoes—she could cause any object that was in motion to have its momentum reverberate, which would in turn cause the force behind the object to multiply as long as it remained moving.

Millis continued to climb up its arm and reach its face. Then, with a leap, she lashed her sword out and slashed through the same area Lillian had struck before.

And... With the combined effort of both Millis and Lillian—

SKR...!

—They managed to finally draw blood from the Alpha.

Millis’s sword cut down into the armour and into its dark flesh. And not only that, but with her swing, she had managed to reach one of its eyes.

After accomplishing that, she summoned a pillar and used it to push herself back—away from whiskers that threatened to pierce through her body as the Alpha thrashed backwards.

Then, she watched as a lasso appeared over her and pulled her back to where Viesta and Lillian were.

Millis gave the two a smirk and a peace sign before focusing her gaze on the Alpha, who wrapped a hand over its injured eye and let out an earth-shaking roar, which reverberated around the entire nursery.

Viesta chuckled, completely disregarding the monster in pain and patting the two ladies’ shoulders, "Good work, let’s try and keep this up."

And after she said that, she watched as the Alpha finally finished its moment of pain and flashed them a furious look, particularly with its destroyed and bleeding eye.

They then watched as it struck the wall behind it and carefully pulled out one of its eggs before dropping it into its maw.

Crunch...!

After devouring the egg, its once bleeding eye magically began to heal at a ridiculous rate—to the point where it didn’t even look damaged to begin with.

The three of them grimaced as they saw this.

Millis turned to Lillian with a wry smile, "So... This was what ya have been doing the entire time I was setting up the lights, eh?"

Viesta heard this and turned to Lillian as well with a curious look, "You knew about this?"

Lillian looked at the two and gave a wry smile of her own. She then quickly thought of an excuse, "Well... I didn’t know it would... Y’know... Use it to heal itself, I just got right of it because I didn’t wanna risk them hatching."

"And how many did you destroy?"

Lillian breathed a sigh of regret.
