CHAPTER 407: CHEST OF GOLD?

The Captain raised his metal hook towards the mast of the enemy ship and fired it off like a grappling hook, which managed to wrap around and latch tightly on the target.

Lillian then watched as the Captain suddenly flew off their ship with a ehoing laughter as he left all the work of fighting off the invading pirates to her and the other.

The thought of catching a ride with the Captain crossed through her mind, but instantly vanished. It’d be a bit too embarrassing a sight to be latched onto someone.

’I’ll still get on the pirate’s boat, though...’

Lillian took a subtle glance back after eliminating a portion of the pirates that swarmed her. Currently, she was watching what she could only see as...

"What the hell is that thing!"

"I don’t know! Just aim for its legs—ARGH!"

... As the Beetle playing around with its prey.

It skittered around the deck and devoured any pirates it came across. And due to its tough exoskeleton, any regular weapon proved futile against it.

Even if the pirates aimed for its joints, it was too fast for them to hit their target.

Lillian shivered and remembered her time when she first struggled with the Beetle. She even felt a bit of pity for the pirates, but ultimately ignored the feeling as the thought of a chest filled with gold coins flashed through her mind again.

After making sure that Viesta was alright, and giving Nearlo and his bodyguard a brief glance, she looked over the wooden rails of the ship and towards the water.

Should she jump?

"..."

’How am I scared of heights more than fighting monsters?’

As Lillian was deliberating on whether or not to jump into the sea, Captain Righthook was undergoing a fearsome battle with the enemy on their very ship deck.

After delivering another [Tidebreaker Slash] and breaking through the enemy’s rough formation, he cackled before locking onto Kirken, the enemy captain, in the back.

The Captain drew back his cutlass and aimed the tip of his blade towards Kirken before roaring out:

"[2nd Technique of the Deep Sea Hunter: Harpoon Thrust]!"

Then, with a rapid thrust, his stab shot out a piercing shot of air, which mimicked the illusion of a deadly harpoon speeding towards Kirken.

SWOOSH!

The air pierced through and shredded the nearby pirate before making it towards Kirken, who suddenly raised his hand and created a vacuum in the air before him.

The illusory harpoon slowed down before breaking apart and disappearing under Kirken’s grin, who cackled:

"KEHAHAHA! I am a Tier 2 Mage! Do you think you have any hopes of defeating me?" Kirken unsheathed his cutlass and pointed it at Righthook, "You’re someone you can imbue mana into your techniques, correct? Then, you must also be someone of the 2nd Tier as well!"

Righthook rolled his eyes at Kirken’s deduction of his Tier. He then stated impatiently:

"Arr... Enough chit-chat! This is a battle, not a casual conversation. Now hand over dah TREASTURE or else I reduce this ship to ruins!"

"My ship can handle about anything! It’s made with reinforced materials that can withstand even the hottest of fires!"

As the two captains fought on the deck with pirates lingering around and joining the battle whenever they could, Lillian was down below and inside the enemy’s ship.

Having just learned how to walk on water, Lillian stealthily made it into the captain’s quarters and looked around.

Since she already knew no one on their side was going to lose their life or sustain any fatal injuries, she became unhurried and instead fiddled around with the Kirken’s things—even trying on a few of his hats before taking them off due to the smell of them.

"Yuck..."

Eventually, she got back to work. Having moved around Kirken’s desk, pulled open a drawer and looked inside. That was when she found a small jewellery box that was locked by some sort of key.

This box could only be unlocked once you defeat and rob Kirken’s corpse of the key. However... If you had an element similar to Lillian that was both flexible and could harden with enough mastery...

Click.

After transforming her index finger into a key and unlocking it, she pushed the lid open and found a spatial ring hidden inside.

Lillian gave a smug and greedy look as she wore the ring on her left middle finger. But then, she frowned as it didn’t fit her ring size.

She sighed and looked into the spatial ring.

Once looking inside, she summoned out a large wooden chest and placed it on the ground next to her. She then looked down at the metal lock and thought about making another key.

But instead...

Clang.

She broke it off instead.

"Yeah, I’m not doing that again." Lillian rolled her eyes and lifted the lid.

Her eyes lit up with stars as the chest was filled to the brim with golden coins; something she would only see in shows and games was happening to her at this very moment.

She even felt the very chest itself was glowing once it had been opened.

Soon enough, Lillian began to stuff her spatial ring with the contents of the chest, bringing it down to 50% of what used to be inside the chest. She needed to save some for Righthook, so he doesn’t get suspicious.

"Alright... I think half is enough for my troubles..." Lillian stated with a nod of satisfaction.

When she was about to put the chest into her spatial ring, she thought about it for a second before snagging a few more coins.

And once she did that, she stood up from behind the desk and gave a quick glance towards the door to the room and found a man standing in the doorway.

They had a rough appearance and wore a black bandana around their neck. Lillian recognised this person as Youp, the right-hand man of Kirken.

"What the—? Who the hell are you?!"

Lillian’s earlier smile dropped a bit at the sight of him. She then watched as he charged towards her, followed by a sea of flames...
