I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 217: Response
CHAPTER 217: RESPONSE
When Kade came knocking on the door connecting their rooms again at dinner time, Felix was on the sofa, reading a book to Vivi. One of the new books that Remi had left on the bookshelf. They were normal fox-themed children’s books, after all, so there was no need to ignore them as he was planning to do with the romances. And it was his way of responding to Remi, showing him that he wasn’t against the fox’s secret visits.
Was that the right choice? He didn’t know. But honestly, his own thoughts and feelings were so complicated, that he felt like he no longer knew anything at all...
He sighed, and put the book aside, getting up to open the door. With the jasmine scent hanging in the air, he was reluctant to let Kade into the room. It probably made no difference, since it seemed that the Alpha had already noticed it earlier, but still. Until he figured out how to handle the situation, it was better to keep him away. It was less likely he would bring it up this way.
"Yes?" he asked, opening the door...
And he couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows the moment he saw Kade. The Alpha looked even more guilty, more anxious, and generally more uncomfortable than he had been when they had the conversation with his father earlier... Could it be that Felix’s refusing to talk to him any further about it had left him so distressed?
But no. Or at least, that was not the only reason behind his guilty look. Because Kade cleared his throat, averting his gaze, and said, "Uh, I have an update on the Moonhill Pack’s issue... But would you like to have dinner first?"
"No," Felix instantly shot him down. He was growing a bit hungry, but he had forgotten all about it the moment he had heard what Kade had said. Dinner could wait, "I want to know the news first."
"Oh, uh, alright." Kade wasn’t surprised. He must have already expected such an answer, which is why he had even mentioned it in the first place - he didn’t want to risk Felix getting annoyed at him for postponing updating him on the situation. So, he quickly explained, "The Moonhill Pack responded."
"And?"
"Jared Thorne will be coming here the day after tomorrow..."
The day after tomorrow? They were moving fast! A bit too fast...
Then again, perhaps it was best to get this over with as soon as possible.
Felix nodded his head in understanding, and asked to specify, "Alone?"
"Yes, we have asked him to come alone."
"What did you tell him, even?"
Kade flashed a smile, finally looking less uneasy, and more like his usual self, as he announced, "That we have top secret information to discuss with the Moonhill Pack, which required his urgent visit."
"...Just this?" Felix blinked, confused. "Nothing about me?"
Even if it was a request from a supreme pack, to summon a leader of a medium-sized pack with any explanation... Alone, and on such short notice... It was rather odd. Although it was understandable that Jared would come - it was the Bloodmoon Pack they were talking about, after all! He would surely want to make connections with them if he had the opportunity - but he would surely be wary about it... He would at least want to know what it was all about.
But everything soon became clear, when Kade added, "We only told him that it’s related to Wilder Embermane."
"...Ah."
Now it made sense. While Felix didn’t know how much exactly Jared knew about what his father was up to or where he was, he doubted that Wilder would bother reporting everything to Jared. Jared might have been the leader, and even as an elder, Wilder technically was under his command... But Jared was his pupil, and was still young. Wilder was never a person particularly bound by the conventions, as could be seen by his weird arrangement with his fated mate and then a separate appointed Luna, so it was unlikely he would suddenly start respecting the rules...
But at the same time, even if Jared practically worshiped his mentor, he probably wanted to know more about what was going on. Not to mention, he had to ask Wilder to visit Silverfall to solve the situation with Felix. So, if the Bloodmoon Pack had any information, he would be interested.
The funniest thing was that technically, it wasn’t even a lie. The issue WAS related to Wilder Embermane, in a way, since it was concerning his biological son.
"We decided that it would be the best approach to take, since this way, he wouldn’t be able to come prepared," Kade added to explain.
Felix just nodded his head in response. Yes, if they had told him that Felix was at the Bloodmoon Pack, even without mentioning all the details about his being under Kade’s protection, Jared could have discussed it with the elders and his advisers and come up with a much better solution than he would have been able to do when put on the spot....
If he could even discuss it, that is. The curse Remi had cast on Jared was supposed to stop the Alpha from disclosing any information on Felix. How precise it was, though, Felix didn’t know, since Remi was the one to cast the spell, and Felix still knew next to nothing about curses, or spells in general... But it was possible he would suffer the aftereffects from this as well.
Kade and his father didn’t know about it, though, so naturally, they made their decision the same way they normally would.
And Felix didn’t feel like correcting them. Talking about the curses with the two of them, when Kade’s father had almost lost his life to a powerful curse, was rather... uncomfortable, to put it lightly. While he didn’t know what their stance was on curses in general, it was better to avoid the topic whenever possible. Besides, it’s not like his detailing Jared’s curse would make any difference at this point...
