I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 235: Fox Scarf
CHAPTER 235: FOX SCARF
Despite Felix’s warning, Remi got discovered... the very same day.
Later in the evening, after dinner, which Felix had with Kade and Fen, Felix was sitting on the sofa, with both Vivi and Remi on his lap, reading one of his (non-fox related) children’s books, when he heard knocking on the door. It was hardly an unusual occurrence, and he had already half-expected it, since he had heard voices coming from Kade’s room... But this time, it made him flinch.
After all, there was a fox that shouldn’t be here on his lap!
"Kade is here," he whispered. "You should hide."
Remi raised his head lazily, meeting his eyes. Then, he lifted himself from Felix’s lap, let out a yawn while stretching his back...
And climbed up onto Felix’s shoulders, wrapping himself around his neck like a cat!
"Remi!" Felix scolded, but the fox ignored him. At the same time, the knocking on the door sounded out again, louder this time.
"Felix, are you there?"
Felix let out a sigh. Fine, whatever! If that’s what the fox wanted...
"Don’t count on me to speak up for you!" he just gave Remi one final warning (even though he absolutely WOULD defend this fox of a witch if he had to), before calling out to Kade, "Come in!"
The door opened, and Kade marched in... Stopping in his tracks almost instantly, as his eyes fell on Felix.
"This..." he muttered, his whole face twitching as he looked at the fox.
"Yes?" Felix lifted his brows, looking up from the book, and trying to act as if everything was normal.
As if there wasn’t any fox wrapped around his neck.
Kade remained silent for a moment. His brain was running wild, processing the situation. Could it be that it was just a plush toy or something? A fox-shaped neck warmer? After all, he couldn’t sense the presence...
Of course, he knew that this didn’t mean anything. And while the fox’s presence was undetectable, he could still smell the jasmine scent. He had already been aware of Remi’s presence in the pack house for a while now. It was just that he didn’t like it, so he was trying to convince himself that it wasn’t a real fox, not THAT fox...
To which, Remi swished his tail, and caressed Felix’s cheek with it.
...It was a good thing that Kade didn’t have anything in his hands, or it would have ended up broken, no matter what it was.
Still, he managed to maintain his smile, even if it looked much more strained now.
"Fen and Cael stopped by," he said through clenched teeth. "Do you want to join us for drinks?"
He didn’t mention the fox at all, which surprised Felix. But then again... No matter what Kade’s personal feelings were towards the fox, or whether or not he was jealous, Remi was still a powerful witch. The witch who had saved his father. What could he possibly do? He knew how to distinguish between enemies and allies, and even if Remi was his rival for Felix’s attention and affection, that didn’t change the fact that he was the Bloodmoon Pack’s ALLY, and they had to keep it that way.
Felix observed Kade, and once he was certain that the Alpha was not going to do anything, he let out a quiet, relieved sigh. Although he had known that Kade wouldn’t hurt Remi, he still hadn’t expected that he would take it THIS well...
He thought for a moment, glancing down at Vivi. The girl’s eyes were already closed, as she was dozing off. In this case...
"Alright," he said, as he put the book away, and he stood up to put the pup in her crib. "Can I have some juice with vodka?"
"Of course," Kade smiled. Not as widely as usual, though, because the fox was still on Felix’s shoulders, and it was bothering him, but at the same time, he couldn’t really say anything!
And Remi stayed wrapped around Felix’s neck even as they went into Kade’s room, leaving the internal door open, so that Felix could hear Vivi if she woke up and needed anything. Fen and Cael were already there, Fen sitting on the sofa with a glass of whiskey, while Cael mixing a drink for Felix. They glanced at Felix as he entered...
And they immediately had to do a double-take.
The fox on Felix’s shoulders was impossible to miss!
"Nice scarf!" Cael was the first to break the silence, an amused smile tugging on the corner of his lips.
"Ah... Tha-thank you," Felix muttered, instinctively reaching to his neck, and coming across the soft, warm fur. Not knowing what to say, he just walked over, and sat down on his usual spot on the edge of one of the sofas.
Kade soon joined him, constantly eyeing the fox. "But isn’t it too heavy?" he eventually said. "If you keep him like that, your neck is going to be sore!"
Remi snorted in response. As if that was a problem! He was a witch, he could easily deal with Felix’s sore neck!
...But he still climbed down from Felix’s shoulders, making himself comfortable on Felix’s lap instead.
Not that it was any better, at least as far as Kade was concerned. He constantly glanced at Felix’s lap with such sadness, that it prompted Fen to get up, and scoop the bunny from the cage.
"There you go," he said, tossing the white ball of fur into Kade’s arms. "You can hold bunny Felix instead, if you’re so jealous!"
Kade, Felix and Remi all stared at him, dumbfounded. Until a moment later, the fox snickered.
As if some pet bunny could compare to Remi getting to snuggle up to Felix!
Kade’s whole face dropped, and even Felix couldn’t help but pity him a little bit. This big, bad, powerful Alpha looked almost pathetic at this moment... Only Fen was confused, since he didn’t quite understand why it was such a bit deal.
After all, neither he nor Cael knew the fox’s identity. For them, it was just a pet fox... So Kade’s jealousy was kind of hilarious.
