CHAPTER 247: DUEL WON

Clang! Whoosh! Thwack!

What became increasingly clear to the watching crowd was that Noah represented a genuinely strong competitor. His technique was polished and adaptable, but most impressively, he demonstrated terrifying physical attributes that set him apart from his opponent.

Noah didn’t attempt to hide his enhanced strength and endurance—those advantages were too obvious to conceal completely. However, he still limited their expression carefully to avoid accidentally killing the skilled but ultimately outmatched man before him.

Clang! Clang! Crack!

Having 60 attribute points distributed across all physical capabilities was no joke when facing an opponent who possessed perhaps 20 points maximum in any single area. The difference in raw capability was so substantial that Noah had to actively restrain himself to maintain competitiveness rather than overwhelming the man before him completely.

His strikes carried power that made his opponent’s defensive blocks feel like absorbing sledgehammer blows. His speed allowed him to react to attacks before they were fully committed. His endurance meant that extended combat actually favored him rather than creating the mutual fatigue that usually characterised long matches.

The judges positioned around the arena began glancing at each other with growing interest as they recognised something special developing before their eyes. Quiet conversations passed between them as they observed Noah’s remarkable performance.

"That’s little Tanaka’s student, the one Yamamoto brought?" one judge murmured with obvious surprise. "I must say, Tanaka really found himself a hidden gem."

The second judge nodded with appreciation for what they were witnessing as he stroked his long white beard. "Good for him. He always wanted to win this tournament but never quite had the natural ability required. It seems like his student might finally bring that victory home for his dojo."

"The boy’s physical powers are extraordinary," the third judge observed with growing excitement. "Look at how he maintains perfect form even while demonstrating that kind of strength and speed."

The last judge smiled before offering a more cautious assessment. "We’ll see how he performs against progressively stronger opponents. But yes, this is exactly the kind of dark horse candidate we hoped might emerge. Otherwise, ’that’ person’s student would once again dominate and win the tournament."

Swoosh! Thwack!

Noah’s decisive final combination showcased the perfect integration of his physical attributes with technical skill, resulting in a clean victory that left no doubt about the outcome while demonstrating respect for his opponent’s abilities.

"Victory to Noah Carter!" the referee announced as both fighters immediately stepped back and nodded with mutual respect.

The crowd’s applause carried genuine appreciation for both competitors, recognising that they had witnessed a display of remarkable martial capability that promised even more impressive performances in subsequent rounds.

Noah had successfully established himself as a serious contender while carefully concealing the true extent of his ability.

As Noah walked off the platform, his gaze naturally swept across the spectator area where his fellow competitors were observing from their designated viewing positions.

His eyes landed on Kenzo, who was watching from a vantage point that provided clear sightlines to the entire combat arena. The pale man’s dark eyes had been tracking Noah’s performance.

When their gazes met for a brief moment, Kenzo’s wide smile stretched even further across his features. He raised his hand and gave Noah an enthusiastic thumbs up, the gesture appearing supportive.

It was a sign of encouragement, as if Kenzo was acknowledging Noah’s skill and telling him he’d performed well during the match.

Noah did not dwell on Kenzo’s support; his attention was grabbed by Ichigo’s voice.

"NOAH! NOAH! NOAH!" Ichigo chanted like an overexcited sports commentator. "That’s my bus buddy right there! Absolutely destroying the competition!"

Other competitors turned to stare at Ichigo’s enthusiastic display, some with amusement and others with mild annoyance at the disruption to their serious tournament atmosphere.

"Did you see that final combination?" Ichigo continued with gestures that made him look like a one-man cheerleading squad. "That was pure artistry! Like watching a master painter create a masterpiece, except the canvas was that poor guy’s defence!"

Noah couldn’t help but grin at his friend’s ridiculous commentary, finding Ichigo’s energy infectious despite the formal setting of their competition.

"Ladies and gentlemen, witness the birth of a tournament legend! I knew it from the moment our eyes met on that bus!" Ichigo announced to nearby spectators with flair.

The spectators chuckled at his words, finding them amusing and funny at the same time.

Noah immediately reached over and covered Ichigo’s mouth with his hand. "Calm down, dude, you sound like you’re praising your lover or something."

Ichigo responded in muffled tones before gently removing Noah’s hands from his face. "What do you mean! I was just cheering you on, man!"

Noah rolled his eyes with exasperated amusement. "Nobody cheers for others by talking about ’the moment their eyes met on a bus.’ That sounds like love at first sight, you’re going to give people the wrong impression about us."

After hearing Noah’s explanation, Ichigo paused for a second, placing his hand on his chin in a thoughtful pondering stance. After a moment of genuine consideration, he nodded his head with dawning understanding.

"You might be right, my bad," he admitted with a sheepish smile.

But then Ichigo’s face brightened as if he’d found the perfect solution to their communication problem.

"Okay, how about this—" Ichigo began with reborn enthusiasm.

"I’ll just tell everyone about how we bonded over our shared passion for martial arts in that natural spring and how I’ve never felt such a strong connection with another swordsman before—"

"STOP!" Noah interrupted immediately, grabbing Ichigo’s shoulders. "That’s even worse! You’re making it sound like we’re having some kind of martial arts romance!"

Ichigo blinked with innocent confusion. "But that’s how I actually feel about our friendship?"

"I know, but you can’t SAY it like that! I understand what you mean, but others would have crazy thoughts going on in their heads." Noah laughed despite his exasperation.

Both of them burst into genuine laughter at the absurdity of the situation, their amusement drawing smiles from nearby spectators who couldn’t help but appreciate their obvious friendship despite the unintentionally romantic undertones of Ichigo’s support.
