Immortal Creed
Chapter 214: Balance and Equality
Time was like a clock running in reverse.
After two attempts in the instance, Liens caught the uninvited 'visitor'.
He just hadn't expected the 'visitor' to be an acquaintance; although the other party hadn't recognized him, and he hadn't seen the other party's true appearance before today.
But because his impression of that matter was deep enough, he recognized the other party's voice at once.
After understanding the other party's identity and some information about Shadow Realm Magic, he restarted a new instance; this time he prepared to go find Ben for a chat.
The scene changed.
In the instance, Liens' figure appeared on the desolate streets of Kara City, then ran west.
After killing that group of disgusting things that forced a woman into a multi-person activity again, he quickly arrived at the location where Ben was in the previous instance.
"Ben, can you come out with me for a bit?"
Liens' voice, carried by the Wind, entered Ben's ears on the stage.
This was Sound Transmission, a type of Wind magic... In fact, he had an even more covert way of transmitting sound, but considering the will of divine power within his main body, he didn't use that method.
He could feel that will of divine power had glanced at him just now, but because he wasn't there to cause trouble, that will of divine power continued to remain silent.
Hearing the familiar voice, Ben was stunned for a moment, then quickly reacted and said to the believers below the stage:
"I apologize, something urgent has suddenly come up on my end, so today's explanation of the doctrine will have to be temporarily interrupted."
The believers were somewhat disappointed but still expressed understanding: "It's alright, it's already very good that Lord Ben can take time out every day to explain the doctrine to us."
"Don't call me Lord... Here, no one's status should be nobler than others."
"I am just like you, merely fortunate enough to receive the blessings of God, and therefore I also have a greater responsibility."
"But this does not mean that my status is more honorable than yours; this is not what the Heavenly Balance Church should have."
"So, don't call me Lord."
Ben said to the crowd below with a serious expression.
After speaking, he immediately put away the seriousness on his face, smiled and said that his tone just now was a bit heavy, telling everyone not to take it to heart, and then quickly left.
Liens followed Ben all the way until he appeared beside him after he arrived at a hidden place.
"Ben, long time no see."
Liens appeared behind Ben, patted his shoulder with his hand, and greeted him.
Although he had seen Ben in the previous instance, for Ben, they had indeed not seen each other for over half a year.
Suddenly having his shoulder patted, Ben was startled, turned to look at Liens, and hearing him, responded with a smile: "Long time no see, Liens."
"It's just that your changes are so great that I almost didn't recognize you."
"After experiencing some things, one naturally changes, and you've also changed a lot; you seem more composed, and you handle matters in a proper manner now."
"Furthermore, you seem to have fulfilled that bard's dream in another way; I'm truly happy for you."
"Thinking back to when you often told me all sorts of stories... Time truly flies, it's almost a year since those days."
Liens continued.
Although he was somewhat dissatisfied with Ben's management of the reactionary forces, knowing that his friend was still alive and seeing him again was quite pleasing.
"Yes, it's been over half a year since we parted, and I just hadn't expected such great changes in you in such a short half-year."
"Now, in the perception given to me by God, you are no longer much weaker than that Earl of the Glenbagen Family."
"It's hard to imagine what you've experienced to have made such a huge leap?"
Ben's face was full of emotion, seemingly greatly amazed by the changes in Liens' strength.
"Help me, Liens."
"I truly have no way to solve the dilemma the Rebel Army is currently facing; externally there are insurmountable strong enemies, and internally there are stubborn ailments difficult to eradicate."
"The current Rebel Army is like a dam that could collapse at any moment; I truly don't want the hope of 'equality', which was so hard-won, to fall back into darkness."
"Please help me, Liens."
Ben directly knelt on the ground, pleading with Liens with resolute eyes.
Looking at Ben like this, Liens' brows furrowed, and he immediately pulled him up, sighing: "Alas, why go to such lengths."
"Do you know Lucrezia Hartwin?"
"I learned before that she led the Military Fortress's defenders to rebel and join you; with her capability, if you are willing to delegate power, she should be able to manage the Rebel Army well, right?"
Liens symbolically suggested to Ben.
He understood that Ben wanted him to help the reactionary forces, but he truly felt disgusted by those people, and even with Ben's plea, he wasn't very willing to help those things.
Actually, he also wanted to persuade Ben to give up the so-called Rebel Army, but he knew Ben wouldn't listen to such advice.
With the will of divine power on Ben's person, there was no doubt that he was deeply recognized and influenced by the God of Absolute Fairness.
And regarding the system dominated by divine envoys within the reactionary forces, Ben was absolutely the leader, or at least the nominal leader.
Whether it was dreams, the ideals of the divine, or even insignificant power, Ben had no reason to abandon the reactionary forces.
"You know that princess?"
"Alas... unfortunately, that princess left Kara City for a more intense battlefield after leading the Military Fortress's defenders to join us."
"Otherwise, she might indeed have handled the current chaos as you said."
Ben sighed.
He had already understood Liens' meaning; Liens did not want to interfere with the Rebel Army's affairs.
"Hmm? Lucrezia has already left Kara City? No wonder I couldn't find her."
Liens realized, but looking at the powerlessness on Ben's face and the despair emerging from deep within him, he fell silent.
After a while, he couldn't help but ask Ben: "Ben, what 'equality' are you currently pursuing?"
"Can't you see the harm your so-called Rebel Army has caused to innocent civilians? Don't you know how many disgusting things they've done?"
"Or are you saying that you consider such matters and the civilians harmed within them as the necessary price to maintain that power?"
"Have you ever thought that when you treat them as bargaining chips, the so-called 'equality' ceases to exist?"
"Bargaining chips only exist on a 'balance', not in 'equality'."
"What you truly want, is it the balance in your heart, or the equality of all beings?"
Liens' tone changed from inquiry to questioning; he was questioning Ben, and also questioning the will of divine power within his main body.
"What exactly do you want?"
