Immortal Creed
Chapter 62: Determination
The scene shifted.
Liens stood once again on the "platform" built from logs.
In front of him was a large box containing longswords, and it was now time for the instructor to have him choose a weapon and enter the arena.
Since he had decided to "teach" those examiners a lesson, Liens had naturally thought ahead about how to kill someone.
He casually picked up a longsword, gripping it in his hand, and then, in a seemingly accidental move, he threw the longsword in his hand with lightning speed towards the man who was calmly sitting in a chair enjoying his tea.
This man was precisely the examiner who had spoken the most with the instructor.
Liens had the deepest impression of him, feeling that he might be the leader among these five people, so he prioritized him as his primary target.
The longsword flew rapidly towards the man, its sharp tip aimed directly at his head.
With Liens' control over himself, this sword strike would definitely not miss its mark.
As for the constraint of the "contract"...
Through practice on Marvin, he had already gained the ability to control his killing intent for a short period, preventing the "contract" from detecting his thoughts immediately.
"Clang!"
Liens, who was currently undergoing the "contract's" punishment, vaguely heard such a sound.
This was the sound of metal colliding, not the sound of the flying longsword piercing flesh as he had expected.
This also made him realize that things might not be as smooth as he had anticipated.
Liens weakly opened his eyes, and his head, which had been lowered due to the intense pain, also lifted upwards, looking towards the tall figure that blocked the sunlight.
The instructor's height was nearly two meters, similar to Ben's, while Liens' height was around 170 cm.
His height and sturdy build were enough to cast a complete shadow over Liens.
The instructor extended his thick left hand and fiercely gripped Liens' neck, lifting him to his eye level.
He calmly watched Liens' figure, which was unconsciously struggling in his hand due to lack of oxygen.
However, even though his breathing was blocked due to his neck being choked, causing him to slowly approach death from lack of oxygen,
Liens knew that this current display precisely indicated that the instructor did not want to kill him yet, at least not in the short term.
So, he was not in a hurry to leave the instance.
This experience of being choked and slowly suffocated was also a first for him in an instance.
It could be considered a rare experience, worth the price of admission.
Indeed... a voice rang out.
"Don't kill him yet, Sir Leinajin, he might be connected to Marvin's death."
The man with a hint of lingering fear on his face spoke, stopping the instructor from killing Liens.
"Bang!"
Hearing the man stop him, the instructor also took the opportunity to throw Liens onto the "ground."
He also didn't want to kill Liens right now, because he also felt that Liens might be connected to Marvin's death.
His earlier action was merely to give an explanation to the attacked person, indicating that he was not inactive.
Even if the man hadn't spoken, he would have released the figure in his hand soon anyway.
Liens massaged his neck with his hand, breathing rapidly, seemingly trying to compensate for the lost oxygen.
"Speak! Why did you do such a thing?"
The man who had almost been shot angrily questioned Liens, who was lying on the platform.
Liens didn't rush to respond to the man, struggling to sit up halfway, his gaze shifting around to examine the surrounding scene.
Then he saw a small pit appear on the wooden platform.
The pit wasn't large, but he could see traces of cracked wood and protruding wooden splinters.
However, he didn't see the longsword he had just thrown, and the instructor's right hand was holding a sheathed longsword.
Seeing this situation, Liens roughly reconstructed the scene he hadn't seen when he was being punished by the "contract."
It must have been that the instructor noticed the rapidly flying longsword shooting towards the man, so he directly exerted force with his legs, similarly bursting out with incredible speed to block that longsword.
And because the "platform" was not wide, his longsword must have been knocked away.
Liens turned his gaze to the man, then looked at the instructor, and then slowly spoke in a calm tone: "Are you asking about my recent actions, or about Marvin's matter?"
"So, can you tell me what exactly you found on Marvin? I will disclose the information I possess based on the situation."
"To show my sincerity, I will first reveal two pieces of information."
"First, I killed Marvin."
"Second, I cannot reveal any information about the person behind me. Hmm... I guess that counts as two."

Lies hidden within truths are harder to uncover.
Liens fabricated a mastermind behind his actions to increase the credibility of his words.
After all, people are often more willing to believe that there's a hidden hand guiding events than to believe in the resistance of the weak.
Bringing up 'what was found on Marvin' was specifically to create an impression that 'Marvin had something very special' about him.
This formed a closed logical loop: 'Marvin died because his unique quality attracted a mastermind'.
"The person behind this…"
Hearing this phrase, the man first breathed a sigh of relief, as it indicated that Marvin's death likely wouldn't involve Aboer, thus preventing a larger family internal conflict.
After all, that "incompetent General" had only clashed with Marvin two months prior.
And this Slave had been in the Training Camp for nearly 5 months at least, with no opportunity to contact Aboer during that time.
This could prove that Marvin's matter was unrelated to General Aboer.
Bringing back such a result should calm down the relevant factions for a while, right?
However, the man's expression then turned grim again; since this matter was unrelated to Aboer, or even Leinajin, it meant the complexity of the situation had greatly increased.
The purpose of the mastermind sending someone to kill Marvin became the key to this entire matter.
Liens watched the man's constantly changing expression, as if he was contemplating some difficult problem, and knew that his deception had likely succeeded.
Just as he was about to press further, to question and induce the man, thereby learning about the results of their investigation from him.
To see if that investigation's outcome would affect his real-life self?
"Perhaps… there is no 'person behind this' at all; everything was just your spontaneous act."
The Instructor's voice suddenly rang out, and he denied the "truth" Liens had constructed.
"Your name should be Liens, right?"
"Seeing your physique and appearance, I recall Marvin telling me last night that he wanted to take a Trainee named 'Liens' from the remaining people."
"Marvin always liked to do potion experiments, and you should be one of his test subjects."
"Even a very important test subject, otherwise he wouldn't have appeared so urgent at the time."
"So, you might have realized at some point that you were Marvin's test subject."
"Therefore, to survive, you chose to kill Marvin."
"Is that right, 'Test Subject' Liens?"
The Instructor explained his conjecture word by word; although it was a conjecture, his expression was extremely certain.
The man, who had been struggling beside him, showed a look of astonishment upon hearing this, and after a moment of thought, he agreed with the Instructor's viewpoint:
"Listening to you, it indeed seems very possible. A normal Slave cannot resist the binding of a 'contract', but this guy almost killed me."
"This indicates that he somehow temporarily bypassed the 'contract''s restriction… In that case, he has strong suspicion for both motive and means."
"Interrogate him thoroughly; ask him how he bypassed the contract."
Listening to the conversation between the two men in front of him, Liens knew that his little scheme had misfired.
His real-life self might have already left an impression on the Instructor, but it was only due to the belief in that "contract" that he temporarily hadn't attributed "Marvin's death" to these Slaves.
But would that "belief" last forever?
He didn't know, which only strengthened his resolve to escape Glenbagen's control.
