Chapter 289 289: Lost
Huh!
A sharp gasp escaped Mo Jian's lips as he struggled to rise from the floor. He never expected the sandstorm to be so horrifying.
Thanks to the Lightning Wind Carriage and its various protective runes, they had some defense. Still, when he was inside the storm, it felt as if the world were coming to an end.
He tried to see what was happening inside the storm through the Sky-Eye rune, but the frightening power of the sandstorm made it impossible to see anything.
Apart from being tossed left and right, he crashed into an abundance of unknown objects.
Regaining his bearings, he opened the window to the coach driver compartment and asked.
"Old withered man, are you alright?"
"Young Master, I'm all right," the Old withered man replied, shaking his head from the dizziness.
As a powerful Half-Steps Golden Core Expert, it was rare for him to feel dizzy. Yet, under the sandstorm's terrifying force, he had been thrown back and forth so many times that he had lost count.
"Good," Mo Jian sighed in relief. "Let's find out where we are and get out of here."
They might have survived the desert sandstorm, but they were not out of danger yet.
Quickly, he took out his Spirit Link and tried to send messages to the others, only to find that there was no network.
"Hm?" A slight frown appeared on his face.
This was unexpected.
How far had the storm carried them?
"Young Master, I can't determine our location," said the old withered man from outside.
Outside, the old withered man looked at the endless expanse of dunes in shock. This was unlike the dunes in the central region.
They were flat, with a faint mirage on the horizon. Dim stars shone on the dune surface.
Many might consider the scene beautiful, but the old withered man and Mo Jian did not.
They were lost, and their location was unknown.
Creak!
Mo Jian stepped out of the carriage and inhaled the fresh desert air.
"Young Master, can you reach the others through the Spirit Link?" The old withered man asked, traces of hope flashing on his face.
He shook his head. "I've tried, but we're out of Spirit Link network coverage."
Hmm?
The old withered man was stunned. This was the first time he had heard that the Spirit Link could not connect with others.
He had always believed the Spirit Link could connect to others no matter the distance. But now he knew that was not the case.
"Let's go. Pick a direction and ride at full speed," Mo Jian decided decisively.
The continent was in chaos, and delaying their return might invite more danger to them and those waiting for their return.
"Young Master, we cannot go at full speed," the old withered man explained. "The Jade Fang Lizards are already tired from the sandstorm attack and pushing them too hard might kill them."
"I understand. Go at a normal pace." Mo Jian realized his oversight and agreed readily.
Returning to the coach driver seat, the old withered man urged the Jade Fang Lizard, and the carriage moved forward slowly.
Inside the carriage, Mo Jian did not sit idle. He activated the carriage's Sound Transmission Rune to broadcast a wide-range call.
"Using the original Sound Transmission Rune might not work," Mo Jian thought for a moment.
"I need to increase its range," he muttered and got to work.
He was a Runic Master with mastery over six energies. Modifying the Sound Transmission Rune posed no difficulty for him.
Half an hour later, he was finished with the modification.
Looking at the intricate, advanced Sound Transmission Rune, he nodded with pride.
The newly modified Sound Transmission Rune covered a radius of over 5 kilometers.
His talent in runes was not a joke. Although the upgrade would consume a lot of spirit stones, spirit stones were the least of his concerns.
Activating the modified Sound Transmission Rune, he began to call out to the others.
At first, no one answered, but he was not worried. He knew it was only a matter of time.
Suddenly, a voice came from the Sound Transmission Rune.
"Thank the heavens! Young Master, we're alive." Elder Bai's voice echoed through the rune.
Mo Jian breathed a sigh of relief. "Elder Bai, can you tell me your location by using the stars?"
This was knowledge from his past life—the stars could determine direction when there was no other method.
Quickly, Elder Bai understood his thought process and described their location using the star formations.
Following the stars, Mo Jian managed to locate Elder Bai.
"How is everyone?" Mo Jian asked, stepping out of the carriage.
"Everyone is all right. Except for a few light bruises. We're fine." Elder Bai responded.
Mo Jian looked at the disciples and the elders; their injuries appeared light. With a healing pill, they would recover quickly.
"Let's depart. We need to find the others."
"That's right." Elder Bai agreed with a nod and returned to his carriage.
Using the modified Sound Transmission Rune, Mo Jian found the other carriages one after another.
Some carriages were not far from each other.
Seeing their son unharmed, Mo Jian's parents breathed a sigh of relief. Liu Zexian wanted to hug his only son but restrained himself.
They were still not safe; danger lurked around them.
When all the carriages were accounted for, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Standing outside the carriage, Mo Jian looked at the Southern Region leaders and asked, "Do any of you know our location?" Mo Jian asked.
The map in his storage pouch depicted only the Southern Region and the Central Region. After checking the map repeatedly, he confirmed they had gone beyond the two regions.
The four leaders were quiet for a moment before the Governor spoke up and pulled out an old worn map.
"Young Master, I believe we're in the Northern Region," he explained slowly. "Only in the Northern Region are the dunes like this."
Mo Jian nodded, not surprised. "Do you know the way back?"
This was the most important question.
"Yes. If we follow the map, we should be out of the desert in a few hours."
"Good. Governor, please lead the way."
