Chapter 28: Assassin Meets Assassin Again
CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28: ASSASSIN MEETS ASSASSIN AGAIN
Sui Yi controlled the bike with one hand, weaving swiftly through the streets at top speed, her other hand clutching a cell phone as she hastily dialed a number.
"Zhang Xiao, it’s me... he’s found me!"
"He? Who? The assassin? Good heavens! Where are you!!!"
"I..."
The sound of an approaching vehicle behind her made Sui Yi instinctively turn her head, only to see the man behind the wheel.
His smile, so fierce!
Indeed, a killer who murdered without shedding blood!
Crazy!
Whoosh! Sui Yi turned the bike and entered a narrow, deserted alley!
She feared involving innocent people!
"Near the commercial street by the school, also, could you please inform Elder Tang to be cautious, this man has a car, the license plate is..."
Sui Yi worried that the assassin might be part of some group, as it was certain someone had tipped him off given how quickly he had found her.
But Sui Yi hadn’t finished speaking! Her nerves suddenly tensed, her arm urgently swerving to the right...
A bullet flew past her arm in an instant...
Bang!!!
The shot hit the wall! The stone wall cracked and debris flew! Many people were startled, not yet realizing what was happening, only to see a bicycle and an off-road vehicle chasing each other...
"What’s going on!"
"Oh my God!"
----------------------
"A suppressor?" As Sui Yi turned her head, she saw that the man’s palm was holding a gun with a suppressor attached, looking almost like a toy gun, and different from the one she had seen that night.
And now, the car was pushing through the alley, closing in from all directions!
"Sui Yi, Sui Yi!!! What’s..." Zhang Xiao on the other side became anxious as he suddenly heard a fierce banging noise, and then... silence, the line abruptly cutting off...
In the police station, Lin Quan and the others looked tense.
"Captain... the assassin seems to have fired," Zhang Xiao said, pale-faced.
Fired? In a commercial street?
Had he gone mad!
"Damn it, this lunatic killed the gun middleman, and now he’s coming directly for Sui Yi this morning... He really is audacious!"
Lin Quan was furious as he followed the trail of information about the gun to the target, but arrived a step too late, only finding a body killed with a single shot. This time was different; the assailant had left behind a bullet, as if to mock the police.
And now... he was openly firing!
That was damn audacious!
The police station was a whirl of agitation and anger, but Sui Yi was speeding crazily through a quiet, serene ancient house in Jiangnan...
Bang, bang, bang!
Three consecutive shots, ruthlessly aimed at Sui Yi’s arm, seemed intent on capturing her alive, but to the surprise of those in the car...
She dodged them all!
Watching Sui Yi take the opportunity to drive into a narrow lane too small for a car, the man holstered his weapon with one hand, turned the car around, and screeched to a halt at the mouth of the alley.
"Huh, interesting..."
----------------------
"Whew..."
Breathing out, Sui Yi planted one foot on the ground, turning to look back at the alley entrance which was now out of sight. At that moment, the alley was silent, with only the distant sound of rushing water.
Her hand tightened slightly on the handlebars, Sui Yi slowly narrowed her eyes.
Had he given up?
Unlikely...
The fact that this man had brazenly opened fire in the street and pursued her showed he was undoubtedly an extremely proud and crazy person at heart.
These kinds of people, they won’t easily give up on their prey.
However, this alley is too narrow for cars, so he would have to come in himself...
But the alley is full of twists and turns; he might not know what’s happening here.
Sui Yi slightly closed his eyes, mounted his bicycle, and rode into the alley on the right. Hiding here was not a solution, considering he could still come alone into this alley, and he had a gun...
Ding-ding, the bicycle wheels traveled over the uneven cobblestone alleyway, barely a meter wide, flanked by greyish-white walls and black tile roofs.
The phone rang, and Sui Yi answered it.
"Sui Yi, where are you now?" Elder Tang’s voice sounded low and urgent.
"I..."
"Damn it, Old Lin’s place had a spy die, the one who’d been in contact with Hei Pi. Old Lin is scared to death now, only managing to stealthily contact me. I reckon that assassin has already set his sights on me. Come back quick! I refuse to believe he’d dare to come over and kill!"
Assassinations at the doorstep? Sui Yi really didn’t want to say that someone had already dared to chase and shoot at her in broad daylight...
However, the assassin must have lost his trail on that spy, unable to locate Old Lin, and unable to make a move at the vigilant Elder Tang’s, so he targeted her, the easiest breakthrough...
Heaven forbid, she was the most innocent, dragged into something she knew nothing about.
Sui Yi’s stomach churned with sighs.
"Hey, hey... make a sound, man. I’m freaking out here!"
"I’m fine right now, I’ll be back soon..."
Screech, Sui Yi suddenly stopped his bicycle, staring at the Cross Junction ahead.
"That’s good, come back quickly... hey, damn, why did it go quiet again!"
"Elder Tang..."
"Hmm?"
"Find me a house, an older one with some cultural feel, preferably by a river."
Click, the call hung up, leaving Elder Tang utterly frustrated, damn, an assassin is at my door threatening to kill me, and you’re planning to move away, that’s just too real...
And such demanding requirements too!
Little did he know, at that moment, Sui Yi put the phone in her pocket and glanced down at her bicycle, her gaze pausing on the handlebar’s stem, where a small black bump blended in with the black, hard to notice.
Her finger flicked it, a tiny tracker still emitting a very faint red light.
Looking up at the Cross Junction, "Your Excellency, to capture me, it seems you have exerted considerable effort, overestimating me... to even use an expensive tracker."
It must have been placed when she paid with her card in the store... no wonder they could easily locate her.
In the silent Cross Junction, after a while, a somewhat husky yet chilling voice emerged, "I also thought I had overestimated you, but now I feel I underestimated you... However, I’m curious, how did you know I was here?"
From about seven or eight meters away, that man lazily walked out of the junction, leaning against the wall, hands tucked in his large coat pockets, eyes smiling.
He really didn’t look like an assassin.
At least not right now.
"Just a feeling..." Sui Yi casually responded.
"A feeling? I like that word, we assassins rely entirely on feelings too..." he said, smiling faintly as he took steady steps towards her.
Silent, suffocating pressure!
Turning away was now impossible!
There wasn’t enough time!
Sui Yi slightly closed her eyes, swung her long leg over, and suddenly got off the bike!
Then... the assassin watched as Sui Yi bent down to lock up her bike, then hung her backpack on it.
"..."
In that instant, the assassin seemed somewhat at a loss for words, "Am I not frightening enough that I could kill you? Yet you still bother to lock your bicycle?"
"For prey cornered by a lion, does the lion mind if its prey grooms its fur?"
"Heh... I like that saying," the assassin chuckled, pulling out the gun from his pocket and slapping it against his pant leg with a ’thwack thwack’ sound.
"Although the police here are indeed incompetent, I don’t want to waste time. Tell me where the goods are... Honestly, I really don’t like killing people,"
he said, the smile on his face becoming more charming.
