Infinite Potential System
Chapter 568 - 569: I Wasn't Asking
William floated down, his feet lightly planting atop the collapsed earthen structure. The Primary Laws of Fire, Space, and Seal were calmly circling his wrist, ready for another command.
"Y-you... how are you able to use your Magic? You shouldn't be able to use a Domain, forget about a Law!" Su Mian stammered.
The Earth Element was one thing, since it is extremely difficult to eliminate Mana Particles belonging to the foundation of the Plane itself, especially in the Big Earth Zone. But the other Elements should be almost completely unusable, save for some minor Spells.
William replied with a shrug, "Maybe you're too weak. Or maybe that's why we're out here now. That explosion really helped out, thanks!"
The second sentence prompted Su Mian to gaze at the surroundings. After a closer look, he realized that the Mana density outside the structure was normal, completely unaffected by his Order Element.
Su Mian had a realization, "You were also planning this from the start!"
It had probably happened the moment William saw his wide-range Order Spell that affected the Mana Particles in the area. Trapped like a rat in a cage, William must have been planning his escape from the structure since the start of their one versus one battle.
William smiled, "Yes. You will now give me your loot, and tell me everything you know about the Riverveil Family."
Su Mian's expression hardened, taking to the sky as he shouted, "We're not done here! I'm not giving you anything!"
"I wasn't asking."
A strand of grey Mana wrapped around Su Mian's shield while a voice reached him from directly inside his ear. Flaming whips appeared consecutively from dozens of nearby portals, lashing at the weakened shield and forming cracks in its surface.
"Impossible!" Su Mian cried out while his shield approached its breaking point.
William attacks carried strength clearly at the level of Primary Laws, yet Su Mian never heard an order. But, how could Primary Laws be created with the absence of an order? Has William already reached the Second... or even further?
Su Mian panicked, throwing the last of his defensive Artifacts out to defend, but there weren't enough to counter the damage he took with each passing second. William had already faded into a purple cloud, becoming completely impossible to target with his Order Element while attacks rained endlessly on the shield.
William wasn't going to bother explaining to his victim why he was able to use Primary Laws without orders, mostly because that wasn't the case at all. While preparing for the assassin group to arrive earlier, he had been practicing multiple methods to deal with Primary Laws.
He thought, if there's no sound, will there be a Primary Law?
At the time, William tried using the Sound Element to dampen noise from his voice while casting a Primary Law, but unsurprisingly this didn't cancel the order. As long as the words were said, whether one could hear them or not didn't matter.
If the Sound Element were able to counter Primary Laws in their entirety, that would be too overpowered. Instead, William found another special use for the Sound Element.
Masking his intentions!
To cast a Primary Law, one already knows that a fitting description is needed. One must directly and accurately give instructions to the Element out loud in order for the Primary Law to take effect. If the order is too vague, the Primary Law will default or possibly not cast at all. If the order is too complicated, perhaps only half the effect will be achieved, at best.
That said, stating ones intentions in a battle isn't exactly a key way to win. At this point, Primary Laws become countered by other Primary Laws, but what if the opponent doesn't hear the order? William wanted to try this out firsthand, and his test on Su Mian seemed quite effective.
It does help that he isn't aware of my Sound Element... William thought to himself. After having cast Fire, Earth, Space, Seal, Plant, and Illusion Magic blatantly, and Light, Lightning, Wind, and Sound secretly, William had already revealed ten Elements throughout the fight.
It would be fortunate if Su Mian discovered seven of them, much less the subtle Sound Element. After all, existences like Yuhe Slightwing were quite rare and William believes he's hid his power quite well up until now.
Only when he heard William's voice in his ear did Su Mian have an inkling that William possessed the Sound Element. When his thoughts reached this conclusion, it started to make sense how William was able to deal with all of the group's countermeasures while they chased after his traces.
Su Mian's shield shattered into tiny particles, just in time for a Spatial Slash to separate his hands from his wrists and drop into a portal. Merely a fraction of a second passed before the hands and attached storage devices entered William's possession.
Su Mian, now unprotected with empty Mana Reserves and no way to recover, collapsed to the ground in defeat. He looked up bitterly to see a purple cat licking its paw in the distance, which had hardly intervened since the start of their battle.
William filled the immediate area with Seal Mana to suppress Su Mian's Cultivation, waiting for the effects of his white orb to expire before he proceeded with questioning.
"So... who do you answer to?"
Su Mian spat in William's direction with a glare, "I'm not telling you shit!"
"Oho, really? That's too bad." William tapped his wrist.
"Flashbang!"
With stars filling his eyes, Su Mian tried to look away but was locked in position by the sealing.
"Same question, what's your answer?" William asked again.
"Fuck you!"
"Really? You value your Family that much? Flashbang!"
...
"Flashbang!"
"Flashbang!"
Several hours passed like this, and at a certain point Su Mian couldn't tell the difference between light and darkness. Sometimes, William wouldn't even ask a question and would preemptively flashbang his captive.
At first, Su Mian didn't answer much other than cursing William, William's family, and William's bloodline for tens of generations. By the sixth hour, even Su Mian had reached his limit and started answering some basic questions.
After using... methods to make sure Su Mian wasn't lying or giving misleading answers, William learned quite a bit about the large Family that had deemed him one of its targets. As for their future plans for the Plane and other high-level questions, Su Mian didn't know anything about that.
It was understandable, of course, since Su Mian was merely a junior with no redeeming qualities aside from above average talent. William was happy enough learning about the layout of the Riverveil Family's territory, such as which cities were most populous, where the Family was most active, and even who among the younger generation held influence.
There were also questions unrelated to the Riverveil Family, such as which Elemental Zones the Family had control over. According to Su Mian, the Riverveil Family controls two Zones of every Common Element, three Zones of every Rare Element, and one Zone of the Chaos and Gravity Elements, respectively.
Additionally, a passageway to the Realm of Plants is positioned at the heart of the Riverveil Family's territory, White Jade Capital City.
