Chapter 71: Relationship Advice?
’Is he going to tell me to keep such things for outside the mission?’
’Or is he going to go on about how this won’t benefit my cultivation journey?’ In a way, Alex was both starting to get annoyed and really anxious.
He didn’t want Ken or anybody else, for that matter, to have a say in what he did with his life.
The problem is that this time he was under a team leader, and he probably more than not caused the mission to nearly go wrong.
So whether he liked it or not, he was ready to catch some bullets.
"I don’t have much to say, but Marwa is a good girl; don’t play around with her feelings." Ken said.
’Eh?’
"If you’re looking for something serious, then you don’t have to think much. Take her as your spirit path partner and live your life as a couple; you’d hardly find any better a match for you." Ken didn’t stop.
"And it will also help you keep your desires in check, boosting your concentration and progress."
"As for the mission, don’t worry about it; I had it in mind. You haven’t seen it, but the devil had spent an entire night right next to your bed, watching you like a hawk." Ken dropped the bomb, and Alex’s entire body shivered.
’That thing? That monstrosity has been standing next to me for an entire night? And I’m still alive?’ Alex’s view of Ken changed; this was no longer a teammate, this was his life saver.
"Don’t look at me that way; it wasn’t going to hurt you either way." Ken took a sip of his banana juice and put down the cup before he spoke.
"I’m sorry for what we’ve done, and I will keep your words in mind." Alex stopped whatever thoughts were running through his mind and showed his utmost gratitude.
"..." Ken just nodded. He felt as if he spoke too much.
"Then I won’t keep you from your rest." Alex wanted to get up, but Ken stopped him.
"Finish your drink first." Alex looked at where Ken pointed and couldn’t help but stare for a second; then, he slowly drank the juice, getting increasingly nervous by the second.
"You’re quite the lady killer, and you should know that." Ken added.
"You might have a problem down the line when it comes to ladies, but keep one thing in mind. You can’t control your feelings, and love fluctuates, but, if you’re ever put in a situation where you have too much up your plate, then I only have one advice." Ken looked at Alex who was just about to finish his drink, and continued.
"Absolute equality."
"Absolute equality?"
"Yes, if you are to give someone something, whether materialistic or otherwise, make sure you provide the same." Ken nodded and finished his speech; then he took both of their cups and got up, going back to put them down in their places.
"..." Alex just looked at Ken and couldn’t understand how this man understood everything or how his mind worked.
But in the end, he sighed, gave up, and got up to leave.
"Thank you for your advice..." Alex hardly let out these words.
And Ken, from the other side of the room, replied:
"Don’t mention it."
-------------
11 days... This was the time it took for Ken and his group to finish the mission.
When they got back to the mission pagoda, all eyes were on them.
Not looking down, walking confidently, back straight, and all signs that could speak of one’s success.
They weren’t even injured, but that could have been easily fixed within the ship.
Most of the teams who came back injured didn’t take the ships because their missions were close by.
"Follow me." Ken once again went for the shortest line hinted at, and his team followed him.
"Welcome to the mission pagoda? You’ve finished your mission?" The receptionist looked at Ken and asked.
Everybody in the sect knew that he was out on a mission, so it would be weird to say, "How can I help you?" right?
"Yes." Ken nodded before he put down a crystal-like object that he brought out of his storage ring.
This was the only thing left by the demon; the rest of its body Ken sprinkled out from his ring while they were on their way to the ship.
"Very well, he’ll take you to the second floor." The receptionist confirmed that Ken finished his mission and gestured to a man behind him.
Ken put the crystal back into his ring and glanced behind the receptionist.
"Please follow me to give you your rewards." The man who was standing behind the receptionist got out of the counter and led Ken and his group to a room on the second floor of the pagoda.
Ken followed him and didn’t think much about how they didn’t question him more; they had their own ways of knowing if the problem was dealt with even without their evidence, the same way they could know when a problem was going on in their territory.
In no less than 15 minutes, the group received their rewards, wearing happy faces all along.
And then, without any delay, Alex and Marwa bowed to Ken outside of the mission pagoda and left, leaving only Darek with him.
"If you come to the gatherings at the beginning of the month and in the middle, we can meet there." Darek informed.
"Sure we will." Ken nodded.
"It was good to have you along." Ken added, making Darek look at him for a split second in surprise.
"Not like you needed me." Darek shook his head in a demeaning way.
"Think about that again." Ken smiled and said.
Then he put his hand on Darek’s shoulder and continued.
"Whether I needed you or not doesn’t matter; what I care about is that without your help, things would have been way too complicated."
"..."
"I can’t help but be taken aback by you, Ken." Darek shook his head once again.
"Very well." Darek smiled and nodded.
"See you later." Ken said as he tapped him on his shoulder once again.
"See you later."
