CHAPTER 74: A TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE!

Chapter 74: A Traumatizing Experience!

Adam showed up to the staff room, his face slightly sweating and his expression a mix of absolute fear and shock.

"Haha, Adam, you sure are joking. Of course he would return; it’s Ken after all." Lu, wanting to ease the mood, spoke these words, but even with Adam calming down slightly, his demeanor was far from normal.

"Umm... what about the VIP room?" Alissa, on the side, as if she couldn’t read the room, could only think of her stomach.

"Big Sis, we’ll talk about that later. Senior Adam, let’s sit down and talk." Ken, seeing that it was a chance to see more from a senior like Adam, who was normally composed, drove the group to bring up a large round table in the middle using a formation.

And then, in no more than a minute, the entire staff room was sitting, their attention on both Ken and Adam.

Alissa’s eyes were looking at both of them at a fast pace, and Ken could swear he saw some saliva run down the corner of her lip.

To what extent could this lady be unladylike?

"I will be honest with you. When I heard that you took on a devil mission, I immediately went to check, and once I confirmed that it was true... you died in my mind." Adam spoke honestly, his eyes fixed on Ken.

"Eh? Seriously? That’s why you refused to talk whenever we spoke of Ken?" Alissa, who seemed as if she couldn’t read the room, spoke.

"Did you... seriously kill it?" Adam asked, his face full of disbelief and scrutiny.

Ken, instead of speaking, did the best possible move and just brought out the demon core.

"..." Adam looked at it, and the next second, his entire face broke down in sweat.

*Huff*. *Huff*. Huff.*

His breathing quickened, and this time even the childish Alissa knew that something was serious. This was beyond normal fear; this was trauma... A phobia of anything that has to do with demons.

Ken stored the demon core back and waited for Adam to calm down as one of the senior staff sisters went to bring him a cup of water.

Minutes quickly went by as the air in the room stiffened and Adam seemed like he wanted to speak.

Thus, everybody’s eyes opened, and they listened to the oldest and most experienced in the room.

"How powerful was it?" Adam asked.

"Its roar was enough to make an entire village quake." Ken said.

"..." Adam’s face paled, and every single staff member in the room had their eyes almost out of their sockets.

The way they started looking at Ken from this moment onward was completely different.

The staff from his batch all the way to Adam all came to the realization that Ken, who had dared to take this mission this early on as a cultivator and lived to tell the tale, no... managed to kill that very same entity... was a monster.

"No, that’s not what I mean..." Adam shook his head.

Making a village quake with a roar was around as strong or slightly stronger than what he experienced... but that wasn’t what he aimed at when he posed the question.

"How long did it take you to kill it? How hard was it to defeat?" Adam asked the real question more straightforwardly.

"..." Ken took his time to reply; he was calculating what would be a good answer.

Should he be honest or hide some truth? What would be the wisest, most fruitful answer?

"2 nights. It took us 2 nights to take it down." Ken replied honestly.

The room turned silent, and the other staff, instead of being shocked, turned to look at Ken, because they, with their lack of experience and information, failed to realize how impossible the words Ken just spoke were.

Sure, a foundation establishment realm individual could do so in a single day; the second the devil dared come out, he would squash it alongside the contractor, who would also go naked in front of his all-seeing eyes.

But this was a man who had yet to complete a single year as a cultivator... a single year!

24 years! 24 years! That’s how long Adam has been here, and he was one of the wealthiest and most powerful from his batch, and yet, he’d fail to do what Ken did; rather, it would be a miracle if he managed to survive if he had the same teammates as Ken.

This also went to show the difference between a foundation establishment realm individual and a late qi refining one, even one able to break through the major realm anytime.

"Senior Brother Adam... did you take a similar mission before?" Alissa, the most daring of the bunch, asked.

And with her question, the eyes that were still processing the sheer number of never-seen-before expressions from Adam’s face focused even more.

"Yes... 10 years ago." Adam nodded; he had finally calmed down.

It was more of a rollercoaster of emotions for him here than anyone else, and he knew why...

He knew things and experienced things these children couldn’t even imagine; thus, he understood and was shocked more by what Ken was saying than they were.

"I and 10 others from my batch, around 2 years after you guys started cultivating in the sect, were proud of our achievements as the top 10..." Adam casually spoke of his days of glory when he was amongst the best of his batch.

"You were from the top 10, senior brother?" Alissa, forgetting the topic they were talking about, moved towards the next hook like a brainless fish.

"That’s besides the point." Adam shook his head.

Lu, who was next to Alissa, poked the lady’s hand with a small steel rod he had on hand, and once she gazed at him, she was scared by his expression that told her to better shut the hell up.

Alissa, being scared, finally shut her mouth, and thus, the group could focus on Adam’s words more easily.
