Chapter 91: The Elders’ Plan!
CHAPTER 91: THE ELDERS’ PLAN!
Chapter 91: The Elders’ Plan!
Ken watched the scene going on between Elder Aristo and Eldora.
Then, in a single moment, the elder got up, turned towards his disciple, and in a look that spoke of words the mouth couldn’t, he approached and wanted to pat her head but stopped.
He then looked at his wife, and then Elder Karim, and another conversation happened between eyes.
Then in front of everybody, the elder disappeared, and nobody spoke after.
Eldora looked at Sara, and she looked back, and then Elder Karim moved, and all of them disappeared, including the puppet witch, the elder’s wife, and her son and daughter-in-law.
Now, only those who had nothing to do with the matter remained in the VIP room, but Ken believed that they would be back soon, after getting done with the marriage formally.
But elder Aristo was probably not returning.
Thus, for a good 30 minutes, no one spoke, each doing their thing.
And only after that did conversations start picking up here and there, starting with elders and moving to disciples.
"Have you decided?" Ken’s elder master suddenly spoke without even facing him.
There was no context, but Ken could easily guess what he was talking about.
"I believe I did." Ken nodded, and his answer caught the attention of the elders, because they knew that he was talking about his choice of a master.
Though it didn’t matter much, they wouldn’t refuse getting a disciple like Ken to pass down their lifelong techniques and methods to.
"That’s good." The elder master nodded with a smile.
It was definitely unusual for disciples to make choices quickly, and he would also advise against doing so, but Ken... didn’t need to be spoken to.
He’s more than equipped to make choices that are the best for himself.
"You should be aware that the elders have some plans for you." The elder master, after a long pause, changed topics.
"I am." Ken nodded.
"Do you have any idea what it is?"
"How can I?"
"Mhm." The elder master nodded, not surprised by Ken’s answer, and took another long pause.
How would he know? It was a top-tier secret that only inner sect elders knew and those who were here in the sect for far too long, like him.
Not to mention that not every disciple qualified; only a minute minority did.
"In a while, when the missing elders return, you’d be taken to a separate space and informed. There you can make your choice." The elder master suddenly spoke these words and went silent once again.
A choice, huh? Ken took a sip of his drink and didn’t reply.
An hour passed, and then another, and then Elder Karim returned alone.
After that, by a few minutes, Elder Mestica, her son, and her daughter-in-law came and took their seats.
But neither Elder Aristo nor Eldora and Sara came back.
The newlywed couple had business to take care of in their own land, and the elder was far too saddened to participate in such meaningless gatherings, going back to seclude himself for a few years and deal with the emptiness of losing a disciple.
Then, out of nowhere, as if they mutually agreed, Elder Karim got up and addressed Ken.
"Disciple Ken, if you are free, we’d like to have a talk with you." These were the words.
Ken got up and nodded towards the elder, and once he did, the elder master got up too, and in a flash, all of the elders disappeared, leaving only the outer sect ones and the core and official disciples who had no idea what was going on.
What did the elders have to do with Ken now? Weren’t they only supposed to observe him?
Well, this had nothing to do with them.
And thus, while the outer sect elders and disciples minded their own business, Ken found himself in the very same space the elder master invited him to each day.
This was intentionally done to make him at ease, but there were a few things that weren’t there normally.
Another round table for the gathering and some servants who took care of the matters.
Ken sat on the tree’s side with the elder master to his right and Elder Karim to his left, and then from Elder Karim’s side were Elder Magga, the Alchemist, and the Monk.
And two seats away from the Elder Master sat Elder Mestica and the twin elders.
Ken almost sweated from the suffocating air of being in the middle of such a group of very powerful individuals.
At some point in time, he started thinking that he might have taken things too far.
That maybe, just maybe, he should have taken things easy, because things were starting to steer out of control.
"Don’t worry, you’re only here to be asked an important question; after that, if the elders have some inquiries outside the topic, then we’ll go along; otherwise, we’ll go back to where we were." The elder master, who knew Ken very well, saw his unease and spoke to calm him down.
The elders themselves could understand his position; if they, in their current glory, stood in the middle of a similar group of enemies or powerhouses from other sects, they wouldn’t be comfortable.
"Before that, we’d like to ask questions." Elder Mestica was the first to speak, and she eyed Ken with a serious face and sharp eyes that resembled her husband’s to a T.
She was definitely observing him, then analyzing and simulating everything in a single sitting.
A single word and she’d wear Ken’s skin as if she were him.
...
How to go from here? What to say? What to do? What to think? How to act?
Everything and anything he’d do would put him completely out of his zone.
And what’s worse is that he was up against individuals who had lived for thousands of years.
Ken, now, understood that this world... would require sacrifices.
Sacrifices from his side because, like now... he was and would be in front of walls that can’t be crossed.
If he stayed silent, he’s as good as read; if he spoke, he is read; and if he tried to change or twist his personality...
It was already too late.
