CHAPTER 92: DEMON NEMESIS!

Chapter 92: Demon Nemesis!

Another example of when to give up in front of fate showed up in front of Ken, and he couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

When lying or pretending isn’t a choice, then the best thing to do is to be in the best of characters.

"Elder Master told us that you’ve managed to reach a high mastery in the efficient records; is that right?" Elder Mestica asked in a rough tone that made Ken’s skin shiver.

"That is right." Ken nodded, and the elder nodded in return.

"How high is it?" She asked.

"Enough to move on to the Useful Records." He replied.

"..." The elder stood silent for a second, and before taking a look at her elders, she gazed deep into his eyes.

’Let’s not jump to conclusions and assume anything before asking the elder master." Elder Mestica shook her head inwardly and looked at the elder master.

"Elder Master, do you vouch for his words?" She asked, and the elder master nodded with a smile.

"Ken isn’t the type to lie, Mestica." He said, making the elder drop her eyes for a second.

"Whether that is true or not we can easily confirm." Elder Magga jumped and said.

"For now we have more important matters to ask about." He said.

"Young Ken, you are here specifically because you were able to take care of a warrior devil with such a low realm, and we’ve received information confirming the fact that you’ve done so yourself from our sources." He added.

"And if what you’re speaking of... is true. Then you’re the right candidate for what we’re about to tell you, and we hope you accept." He said these words carefully, and he was the one to specifically do so.

If the scary- and huge-looking Magga spoke in such a way to Ken, then that spoke much of the other elders; they weren’t here to force him into anything, and if he didn’t like what he heard, he could go back to his normal life, and nothing would go out of its course.

"Elders, please rest easy and ask away. This disciple is ready." Ken said these words, and the elders looked at each other and then at Elder Karim.

"Very well, I’ll do the talking." Elder Karim nodded and faced Ken.

"Our sect has managed to form an inheritance or method... to make a being that we like to call Demon Nemesis." Elder Karim said.

Ken nodded, so far not showing any reaction, and this made the elders rest easier and continue.

"This method takes a lot from the one who dares take it, and so far, only the top geniuses of our sect throughout the years dared try it, and none succeeded." He said.

"If we are to force someone into it or have someone not fulfilling the requirements through the method... they’d be in fatal danger... unlike the geniuses." He said.

So from what Ken understood and knew, there’s this ritual of sorts and a training that made a human a weapon against demons.

A weapon against all of their schemes and attacks and understands them best.

As long as they are to pass the inheritance and gain that title, they’d be unstoppable against humanity’s number one enemy and be a hero immortalized in history books and in the tales of all mortals and cultivators.

"Whether you pass or not is beneficial to you; Elder Mestica and her husband were the first to go through it after the effort we all made together to come up with it, and... you will come to know of their achievements." Magga, at this point, with a serious face that was awaiting Ken’s answer, pointed towards the witch elder.

Ken looked at her with a look of surprise, so the demon nemesis ritual had to do with their crazy war achievements?

That was indeed surprising.

"What you have to know is that the process is painful, heart-wrenching, and long and requires a lot of intelligence, effort, and will." Elder Mestica, feeling that it was her role to speak, said these words, giving Ken an idea of what it was all about.

"We have come together and listed down many requirements needed to qualify for it, and so far you have the highest chance." Elder Karim said.

Now, truth be said, Ken wasn’t the best to have taken it; there were geniuses who couldn’t even be put in the same sentence as him who had passed through this sect in their eyes.

And yet even they failed.

But they didn’t know the full extent of Ken’s abilities, nor were the other geniuses battle-oriented. Some had a talent for formations, some for alchemy, some for strategy, and only a small minority were well-rounded with top charts in all categories like Ken seemed to be.

Still, he qualified, and that was all that mattered.

A single surprise, a single second of will, or a single unexpected transformation or miscalculation could change everything and make Ken achieve what others couldn’t.

Thus, it was good and the best course of action to not fail at giving a chance to anyone who showed promise.

Simple as that.

Now... it was all Ken’s answer.

"So what do you think, disciple Ken?" Elder Karim asked, and Ken looked back at him, then at his elder master before he looked down at the table.

No one forced him, no one spoke, and everybody waited.

Many disciples refused; many had no intention to fight in their lives, and some didn’t even care about demons.

If Ken accepted, then it was another reliable disciple and possible powerhouse added to their sect, which they needed more than anything at the time.

And let’s not mention the fact that the demon nemesis won’t be only useful against demons but a complete battle maniac whose talent in such a field is maximized.

If only... he accepts.

And then, after what seemed like forever to the elders who had already been waiting for years now...

Ken raised his head.

"I..."
