Chapter 173: Getting Out
CHAPTER 173: GETTING OUT
Jayden and Charlotte had their eyes widened the moment they noticed who it was.
The chopper settled at the riverside, and there it was, Harper and some men.
Without wasting a second, Jayden dashed towards the chopper with Charlotte as they quickly entered, and they didn’t waste any more seconds before zooming away from the scene.
Countless gunshots struck towards them, to the masterpiece aircraft, as it soared off regardless.
"Paula is to be thanked for this one," Harper smiled at them, her face calm yet bright.
"How did you know I was here?" Jayden couldn’t help but ask.
He came there alone without telling anyone, and it was slightly surprising how Harper happened to know.
"I knew you would be here after not finding you in your chambers. Noticed how you were worried when she left, so it’s expected," Harper said.
"After all, I knew Charlotte would need some assistance, so I decided to show up in case things got shaky. Turns out that my thoughts were right," she added.
"Thank you, Harper. You just saved our lives," Charlotte said with a sincere tone, as she couldn’t help giving Harper a tight, warm hug.
They were completely surrounded back at the riverside, which they knew what getting captured by the S.W.A.T team would result in.
Hero Harper just did it again, and this time, not when they expected it.
"Did you get the code?" Harper then asked.
"Uhm, yeah. Got everything done before they noticed. The chaos wouldn’t have happened if the expert in charge of the office never came back to grab her notes. I went quite a long way before they noticed me anyway..."
Charlotte paused, sighed, and continued.
"They ordered a full lockdown, and I couldn’t get to the exit on time. Shadow Mask was already nearing deactivation at that time, and I was beginning to accept that it was over when it finally deactivated, and I was being chased by the securities..."
"That was when Jayden showed up... And saved me," Charlotte smiled at him.
"Good story... Clearly means our man is the real hero, because I wouldn’t have saved you both if he hadn’t gotten you outside," Harper said.
"True," Charlotte laughed softly, but the emotions could be sensed.
Her mind was just relaxed by the fact that she wasn’t captured after putting the risk to get the passcode and hack the Satellite System.
Hacking the Icelandian Satellite System was almost the key to their victory, resulting in playing a massive role in dominating the war.
It would have been over if they had been captured, and literally more drastic if Jayden was also captured.
In the end, they all just had to be happy that it was a successful mission, and a stride for their revenge against the Icelandians.
They flew through Xenia, a neighbouring country to Icelandia, but it wasn’t part of the alliance.
The Icelandians would have planned to attack them as they escaped, but they wouldn’t want to cause trouble in Xenia, who were well-guarded, the direct opposing country to Icelandia, a country that wasn’t in the Alliance.
They are the Independent Society.
Fortunately for them, most of the passageways to Nortasia were through the Independent Society countries, and they arrived safely at Nortasia in no time.
The rest of the ladies had been waiting, as they were worried about them. Upon sighting them, Cammy threw herself at Jayden, her face faint, a revelation of the unease she felt.
And it was the same with the other ladies, like Temi and Paula, who left their jobs due to being worried about their whereabouts.
"You did it! You hacked the Icelandian Satellite System!" Becky screamed excitedly.
It was a huge moment of joy, but then they had to keep in mind that the fight was only beginning.
Jayden soon drew their attention with a speech...
"This is just the beginning of our intense retaliation. Now that their Satellite System has been hacked, they would want to attack us in full force with their missiles, and this is when he would feel the heat of his own flames."
"The Aegis V, as stated by Harper, has the ability to redirect missiles and all sorts of nuclear weapons thrown at us, so Icelandia would be having every hit of what they throw at us, and even if their defense systems are able to withstand them, Harper’s new crafts would be able to break through."
"Until then, we just have to focus on our duties, and make sure that we are on the right track. Although more than half the nation doesn’t believe in us, there are still people who do, and we aren’t going to disappoint them. We aren’t going to disappoint ourselves. And as well, we are going to prove the doubters wrong, and make them regret it."
They all nodded.
Jayden left for his room, and the ladies followed Charlotte to her office to have a look at what she just achieved.
Only two ladies didn’t mind following: Harper and Camilia.
...
"I’m sorry for not letting you come with me. You know, it could be too dangerous out there," Harper told Camilia.
"I insisted, yet you left without me anyway. It was my choice, not yours," Camilia replied with a glare.
"I had to go alone because I wanted you safe. After all, he got back safely, so you shouldn’t be worried about anything, Cammy."
Camilia rolled her eyes. "It would have been better if I was there anyway..."
With that, she walked away with a pretentious angry face, and Harper couldn’t help but laugh hard, finding her drama funny.
It could all be like some small joke, but the truth was that Camilia wanted to always be there when Jayden needed help, even if he called her or not... Under any circumstances.
Every damn member of The Core had been sticking to the profession they were given, but Camilia was just the only one who could help out with everything, especially when it’s about Jayden.
The attack at the bridge was a clear example, and the Satellite System case was another.
Somehow, she just felt herself being useless when she wasn’t there to assist, and today, she was sad about the fact that she didn’t show up with Harper when she went to Icelandia to rescue them.
She kept feeling that she wasn’t doing enough, and perhaps that’s why Jayden hadn’t been touching her.
