CHAPTER 238: YOU CAN’T CONTROL YOUR BEAST, CAN YOU?

"Did you see that, Theo? I am the best!!" Ron spoke loudly before he could even get near Theo, making everyone murmur all around them for having no manners.

But Theo grinned and offered an elbow tap, which made Ron even more excited.

When they were done, Theo and Ron went to the corner, as almost all the other fights were plain boring.

When they were away from others, Theo finally couldn’t hold himself back.

"Isn’t it dangerous for you to keep a beast with that ability on your body like that?" Theo asked while trying to imagine if the beast was still there, but if he didn’t know something like that existed, he would have never guessed that there was a beast all around Ron’s body.

"It only hurts the ones that I tell him to. Here, give me your hand." Ron asked, but soon took Theo’s hand without even getting permission.

Theo could have just jerked his hand away, but he didn’t; there was no way Ron was going to hurt him in front of so many.

"Why are your hands so rough? It’s like sandpaper." Ron made a painful face, making Theo laugh and not answer.

If someone did not know how these scars were on anyone’s hands, then it was not worth it to tell them. Only the ones who understood could tell how hard it is to get them.

But soon enough, Theo saw the blob of thick liquid peek outside Ron’s shirt and get toward Theo’s hand.

Theo wanted to take his hand away right away, yet he halted and took a silent breath.

The blob was slow, but it soon came toward Theo’s index finger and touched it.

Theo felt a warm sensation on his finger, but soon enough, his finger started to get inside the blob, and Theo retracted his hand with a jerk.

"Pft... Ahhahahahhaa," Ron burst out in laughter, making everyone around look at them with a frown.

Theo wanted to hide himself now; it was too embarrassing to stay with this guy.

Even the instructors looked at them and ignored them right away as if they knew they were bad news already.

"See? It doesn’t attack you if you’re not a threat to him and me."

"Are you okay sharing this with me?" Theo asked with a knowing smile, only for Ron to laugh again.

"Everyone’s going to know or realize it soon enough anyway, so it’s all good," he spoke and looked at Theo with his giggly face.

"It’s not like I am telling you the main ability anyway," Ron spoke, making Theo nod.

’This is the reason I am annoyed... Don’t know whether to take him as unserious or if it’s all just an act. Maybe both?’ Theo thought.

It took around ten more minutes before the last duel concluded.

"That will be the end of this day’s entrance exam. Those who have passed will be allotted a uniform according to the class they have been selected for. We will meet tomorrow during the acceptance speech."

When everyone heard that, most started to go back. There weren’t many left anyway; when someone’s duel was over, they just left the area on their own.

When only a few were left in the hall talking with each other, Theo looked at the cloaked man who moved toward the stage and then stopped.

His gaze went on Theo, and the man started staring at him.

’Yup, I need to go,’ Theo thought.

"What’s your room number, Ron?" Theo asked before moving away.

Ron’s eyes practically flashed with excitement.

"OH! You’re not annoyed by me? Are you my friend now? Are we best friends now? WOAAHHH! I AM SO HAPPY!" Ron started shouting with a smile, making Theo step back.

"Forget it, let’s just meet in the speech later on."

"NOOOOOO!"

While Theo went away, he heard that ’No’ go on for quite a long time before he reached theinstructor near the stage.

Now that he was near the stage, Theo could tell how big it was. His height was average at the moment, and the stage was taller than he was.

"Theo Merrick..." The cloaked man spoke, and Theo nodded.

"Do you know why I called you here?"

"... Because of how my beast attacked the hound, even when the duel was clearly done..." Theo spoke with eye contact. Whatever he did, his confidence needed to be the best.

"At least you’re smart." The cloaked man spoke with a frown, making Theo believe that it was not a frown but his own face. He had not seen a single different emotion on his face normally now.

"Your beast... Calling it a beast is an embarrassment since it’s an insect type..." He spoke, making Theo look at him casually this time.

He knew the mantis was going to be underestimated. The baron was right; even when Theo became a lot stronger for its age, there was still the fact that they looked at the mantis as inherently weak.

"But it did show us a level of prowess we haven’t seen in insects before. You have my respect for pulling that off," the man spoke, surprising Theo.

"Yet it’s not what I called you for, Theo Merrick."

"You... you can’t control your beast, can you?" The man spoke with a smirk.

’What a rotten personality,’ Theo thought and just shook his head in denial.

"In that last duel, I caught you three times when you hadn’t given an order yet, but your insect started moving on its own. USING ITS ABILITIES ON ITS OWN."

Theo looked at the man with a plain expression, not showing how he actually felt. It looked like the cloaked man was just trying to prove him wrong.

But he had the right comeback for it.

"My apologies for my inability to handle my beast, Sir Instructor," Theo said without bowing, but the cloaked man already seemed happy.

"But isn’t that what this academy is for? To help me improve my ability to communicate with my beast? I was able to give my beast all the required commands in the fight; only a few were left because I am not used to fighting in a duel. I only ever hunted the beasts till the end." Theo spoke with resolute eyes.

The cloaked man looked at those eyes and gritted his teeth. He was going to speak another time when someone interjected quickly.

"That was quite the commendable explanation, Theo."
