Instigator and Protector of Violence
Chapter 20: [You Think You’re Tough?]
CHAPTER 20: CHAPTER 20: [YOU THINK YOU’RE TOUGH?]
The lively atmosphere in the warehouse was instantly destroyed, everyone looked somewhat annoyed at this uninvited guest.
Then, there was silence.
Because the visitor was wearing a dark blue uniform, with a gun at his waist, and on his shoulder was an emblem of the kingdom — three-headed dragon overlain with a sword and shield.
This was an officer of the Kingdom’s Security Office.
"Why stop?" The visitor stood tall, with a rugged and commanding look, crossing his arms, giving an impression of everything being under control.
He said this and then smiled again.
"Since you all stopped, it’s my turn now. Let me introduce myself, I’m Lewis, an inspector from Winster Security Office. I now suspect you are illegally gathering here, who’s in charge? Step forward and speak."
"That would be me." Ethan had no choice but to step forward, looking at him, saying, "I am Ethan Bolita, the current executive of Bolita Venture Capital Company. I am here to console the dock workers of my company. Could there be some misunderstanding here, Inspector Lewis?"
"You are Ethan Bolita? You’re quite famous lately, I was just looking for you." Lewis stared at Ethan with a half-smile, nodding slightly, "Ethan Bolita, I now suspect you have a direct connection with several recent murders in the city and gang skirmishes. You’ll have to come back with me for questioning."
His words instantly made the atmosphere in the warehouse tense.
The dock members who had just received money all looked fierce, and some were secretly reaching for their weapons.
"What, are you planning to resist arrest?" Lewis showed no sign of fear, instead, his face was more expectant.
"Young master, this Lewis is a notorious rogue officer, closely tied to the Evans Clan." Anya reported to Ethan in a low voice.
The Evans Clan?
Sure enough, they didn’t intend to let the issue of reclaiming the docks rest so easily.
The moonshine business is just too enticing.
"Everyone, take it easy. I’m sure there’s a misunderstanding here. I’ve always been a law-abiding citizen. I’ll go with Inspector Lewis and should be back soon. Anya, please take care of them for me."
As Ethan spoke, he quickly walked a few steps and directly exited the crowd.
"You’re quite sensible, Ethan. Good boy, I like it." Lewis laughed more unscrupulously.
He nodded slightly, and immediately someone from behind him jumped out and grabbed Ethan.
Those two even took out handcuffs.
"Do we need the handcuffs?"
"Yes." Lewis said, pulling out a paper and handing it to Ethan.
"This is a warrant issued by the chief inspector, given your possible connection to multiple homicides and the potential for extreme danger, handcuffing is specially approved."
Ethan didn’t say another word, allowing them to take him out.
As soon as they stepped out, the bright flashlights from outside were blinding.
A large group of journalists was already waiting.
They excitedly captured the scene.
Could the city’s emerging Ethan Bolita be arrested?
Such a headline was set to dominate tomorrow’s front page.
Ethan couldn’t help but squint his eyes.
This was indeed unexpected for him.
The Bolita family doesn’t wield extremely strong influence in the Security Office, though they’ve dealt with quite a lot, so generally, they wouldn’t bother their family.
However, this time they were set up.
Half an hour later, Ethan was sitting in the interrogation room of the Security Office.
Lewis kept asking about the past two days and nights in detail.
Ethan’s only response was, "I’ll talk once my lawyer arrives."
The Bolita family’s influence in Winsters political and legal circles is not as solid as that of the Conte family, but being among the five big families, they surely paid to establish some connections, even employing a lawyer.
Anya must be bringing him here as fast as possible.
Facing Ethan’s silence, Lewis initially continued to arrogantly ask questions, but perhaps finding it boring, he casually tossed the booklet on the table, crossed his arms again, and said: "Not bad, you hold your ground well, no wonder you could kill Fred and Joan, much better than your brother."
Lewis said this because he’s also someone with a true name.
During the questioning, Ethan could clearly feel a force emanating from Lewis, seemingly forcing him to speak.
However, Ethan resisted that force firmly.
He didn’t know what Lewis’ true name was.
It seemed to be related to rules, orders.
"Actually, whether you talk or not doesn’t matter, I didn’t really plan to make you speak. Just now was a game. What I really needed to do was keep you here for forty-eight hours, which a second-rate lawyer from your family can’t change."
Lewis chuckled.
"In these forty-eight hours, can you guess what will happen outside? Do you think your Bolita family is as solid without you?"
He stood up, leaned closer to Ethan, and stared into his eyes.
Ethan remained calm, not uttering a word.
"Not planning to make a move? That’s a pity, I wanted to test your skills. Since that’s the case, be a good kid, Ethan, and then..."
Lewis sat back down, extended his hand making a gesture of fireworks exploding.
"Sit back and watch the family you’ve painstakingly put back together explode once more, boom!"
"Haha, let’s go grab something to eat, leave this young master alone."
Lewis led his men out.
After a while, Ethan’s lawyer finally arrived.
Bob Older.
This was a man in his forties, looking very tired, with a demeanor even a fine man’s suit couldn’t hide.
"Sorry to trouble you on our first meeting, Bob." Ethan smiled at him.
"Apologies should be mine, Ethan. I didn’t expect to be unable to help you on our first meeting." Bob forced a smile, "Lewis is experienced, he knows all the rules, which means this detention is completely legal, he can keep you here for forty-eight hours, you’ll have to endure it."
"It’s alright, it’s not your fault, Bob." Ethan, however, did not intend to stay here for forty-eight hours.
"But I do need your help with a few things."
"Go ahead." Bob pursed his lips and nodded.
"First..."
Twenty minutes later, Bob left.
Lewis returned with his men.
"So, my dashing young man, have you thought it over? Are you going to wait passively or shall we talk about something else?"
Lewis unapologetically took out a cigarette to smoke.
"Are you good at fighting?" Ethan suddenly asked.
"What?"
"I asked if you are good at fighting. You always wanted to spar with me, are you skilled at fighting?"
Lewis laughed arrogantly, took a deep drag of his cigarette, and then stood up.
