Chapter 489: Stay with Me
CHAPTER 489: CHAPTER 489: STAY WITH ME
A slim pair of arms wrapped around his waist, and his chest was filled by that delicate person. The chill faded away, replaced by soft warmth, and a faint fragrance surrounded him.
Poe Vaughn stood there, holding his phone, motionless.
As soon as Ava leaned into Poe Vaughn’s embrace, her hands instinctively encircled him, and her whole body leaned against him, as if she were boneless, relying entirely on him without any strength.
As if she depended on his support completely.
And as she leaned into his arms, her eyes closed. Smelling his familiar scent and feeling the strength of his chest, Ava felt incredibly stable, incredibly satisfied.
It was strange.
They had been together for some time, as close as could be, yet she had never relied on him like this before.
She wanted to keep holding him like this, never leaving his embrace.
Ava noticed her own changes, but these changes meant nothing to her. When you’re with someone long enough, feelings are bound to develop.
Besides, there’s a saying that goes:
Feelings are nurtured in sleep.
She originally had no resistance to Poe Vaughn, in every way he was her type, and after sleeping together for so long, so often, it would be strange if she didn’t develop feelings for him.
So, this was very normal.
Now, since they hadn’t divorced, and he hadn’t given up on her, she would enjoy what she could. Ava Sterling wouldn’t wrong herself, wouldn’t make things difficult for herself, and certainly wouldn’t feel guilty towards herself.
Thinking this, Ava became even softer as she snuggled her face into Poe Vaughn’s chest, finding a more comfortable position, planning to go back to sleep.
Even a short nap would be nice.
She greatly enjoyed this moment of tenderness.
Poe Vaughn could feel the trust and dependency from the person in his arms, her body completely relaxed, stable, content, no longer harboring any previous fear.
It seemed she was very satisfied with him.
It seemed she wasn’t afraid of him.
At this moment, he looked at the sunset through the floor-to-ceiling window, the light turning the entire sea red, and opened his mouth: "Ava, this trick doesn’t work on me."
Ava planned to linger in Poe Vaughn’s arms and take another nap, even sleepiness crept back in.
But at that moment, the cold and indifferent voice reached her ears, making Ava open her eyes in an instant, her whole body stiffening.
And at the same time, her face turned dark.
What did he mean by "this trick"?
Did he think she was using some trick on him now?
Did she need to?
They had slept together so many times, her using seduction wouldn’t work anymore.
Everyone talks about novelty wearing off, who still likes it once it’s gone?
Was she that stupid to use such a foolish trick?
With that thought, anger surged in Ava’s heart, and her seemingly weak body gained strength in an instant.
She immediately pushed Poe Vaughn away, glaring at him: "Poe Vaughn, is it necessary?"
"If I were to use tricks on you, wouldn’t you be able to tell?"
"Am I smarter, or are you smarter, don’t you have a clue?"
"You scheming businessmen, clients, sponsors, always exploiting us workers, is there any instance of us exploiting you?"
"Yes, I don’t want a divorce, I don’t want you angry, I don’t want you to blame Mrs. Wei, I want you to calm down. Otherwise, why else would I do this and follow you here?"
"But do you have to think of me this way? Like I’ve been seducing you these past few hours from morning to night?"
Angrily, Ava stated everything she wanted to say, completely forgetting why she came there in the first place.
She was really too angry!
Didn’t she just want to hug him? Didn’t she just want to stay in his arms? Did he really need to think of her that way?
It was truly too much!
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, and Ava decided to let it all go: "If you’re still mad, then stay mad, do whatever you want, I don’t care anymore."
"Me caring is useless anyway."
"For someone like you who’s in charge, how could you possibly care about us little nobodies?"
Saying this, Ava glared fiercely at Poe Vaughn, grabbed her bag, and left.
Ava Sterling was never one to pamper others, nor was she a patient person.
Following him from domestic to abroad, rolling around with him for so long, wasn’t it enough sincerity?
Yet he still thought of her like this.
So why should she bother?
Whatever she did, in his eyes, would always have motives. Since that’s the case, then she might as well do nothing; what will be, will be.
The room had already been tidied up earlier, the previous disarray restored to its original neatness, and Ava’s bag was placed on the coffee table, clearly visible.
Seeing her bag, Ava didn’t care what she was wearing and grabbed it to leave.
But after taking only two steps with the bag, a low voice reached her ears.
"If you want me to calm down, stay here with me."
Ava’s steps came to an instant halt.
She stood there, gripping the bag tightly, feeling a sudden turmoil of pain.
Damn it, she wanted to retort, who wants to keep you company, screw you!
But reasoning held her back, preventing her from saying anything that might provoke him.
Yet, it was unbearable.
One moment he was saying such things to her, and the next moment he wanted her to stay with him. She felt as if she was being toyed with by this person.
He truly did whatever he wanted, as if she had no resistance at all.
The trouble was, she had just said he could do whatever he wanted.
Truly... a headache!
Ava felt miserable; if she didn’t do something, she feared she might explode.
So, putting the bag back down, she stormed back over, grabbing and biting him hard on the collarbone.
Poe Vaughn stood there unmoving, but his gaze noticeably shifted.
The moment Ava left.
Now, however, a clear bite on his collarbone brought a sharp sting.
But to him, this pain was merely a tickle. A slight itch rose within him, causing a stir in his core.
At this moment, the hand tucked in his pocket emerged, landing on Ava’s waist, holding her.
Ava felt the arm wrap around her waist, his force uniting them closely together.
At this moment, Ava squinted, biting Poe Vaughn even harder.
He indulged, so she was unabashed.
This was her, Ava Sterling.
The two stood there for a long time, neither moving, Poe Vaughn allowing Ava to continue biting while embracing her, keeping her within his own domain.
Nobody could enter; she couldn’t leave.
They stayed like this for who knows how long when Ava’s stomach let out a loud growling sound, reminiscent of a dramatic aria.
The force with which Ava was biting Poe Vaughn lessened, her brow furrowed as she looked up at him.
Her expression was a mixture of anger, grievance, displeasure, and resentment.
The emotions mingled, making her resemble a bullied little lioness, stirring a sense of pity.
Poe Vaughn looked at her pitiful appearance in his arms, picked up his phone, and dialed, "Send dinner."
