Invasion of the United States
Chapter 365 - 15: Hydroelectric Station
CHAPTER 365: CHAPTER 15: HYDROELECTRIC STATION
Tang Wen arrived in Avoni Town half a month ago aboard the "Katrina," originally a student from "Dongda" pursuing advanced studies in the United States.
He graduated from a prestigious university in his home country, pursued a doctoral degree in the United States, successfully obtained a green card, and entered a Fortune 500 company—the "Bevmons Food Group," which focuses on food distribution.
Being able to join "Bevmons," with an annual salary of tens of thousands of US Dollars, clearly demonstrated Tang Wen’s abilities. Later, he married a beautiful foreign wife, settled, and planned to live securely as an American.
However, the unpredictable world, filled with tumultuous change, was ravaged by a virus outbreak, putting countless lives at risk.
Before the apocalypse descended, Tang Wen astutely discerned from his company’s product sales data that a massive disaster was looming, and at the very least, the stocks in the food industry were about to plummet.
Before the New York stock market crash erupted, he decisively cleared his portfolio and prepared for the ensuing economic deterioration. Although that was all he anticipated, his foresight ensured the safety of his entire family.
When Zhou Qingfeng started establishing shelters, Tang Wen initially had no intention of joining. However, when society descended into chaos, his Chinese identity saved his life once again, as a small shelter in the outskirts of Richmond took him in.
The subsequent ordeal, however, was not pleasant.
At that time, the shelter not only housed Chinese immigrants but also took in a group of White, Black, and even Latino individuals. Among them, a White household was a former colleague of Tang Wen, whom he had proactively invited into the shelter.
During the first challenging year of the apocalypse, Tang Wen’s foreign wife surprisingly had an affair with his former colleague, willingly becoming the latter’s concubine.
What was even more disheartening was that the living supplies in the shelter were prioritized for Whites and Blacks, while the Chinese who had established the shelter lived in hardship.
Some of the supplies were even purchased with Tang Wen’s personal funds, but he was not entitled to use them.
This ordeal once rendered Tang Wen so devastated that he contemplated suicide. It wasn’t until the arrival of the "Katrina" that he and over a dozen similarly situated Chinese individuals were rescued from the Richmond shelter.
When Zhou Qingfeng was selecting personnel to conduct armed reconnaissance around the towns surrounding Richmond, the emaciated Tang Wen staggered forward, volunteering to join the recon team.
"Old Tang, your health isn’t good; you should rest a bit longer," Zhou Qingfeng said, although "Old Tang" was actually only in his early thirties.
However, his health was extremely poor, with sunken cheeks and a gaunt appearance. Without a drug test, almost everyone would have mistaken him for an addict.
"I know Richmond well," Tang Wen insisted on joining the recon team, "For the past ten years, I’ve been working and living in Richmond.
I once loved this city, taking my family on weekend drives around and outside the city. But now..."
Zhou Qingfeng was not aware of Tang Wen’s specific ordeal, but hearing that he knew Richmond well, he agreed to let him join the team.
"President, I have a request," Tang Wen said, "I never imagined a place would enslave Whites, it’s beyond comprehension.
If it were in the past, I’d think this was inhumane, but now I just want to personally capture a few Whites and Blacks, making them slaves for life."
"Sounds like you want revenge?" Zhou Qingfeng asked.
Tang Wen’s expression was wooden; after a moment of silence, he spat out a word: "Yes. But please don’t ask why."
Zhou Qingfeng nodded, "Alright, no problem. I’m not that inquisitive."
-----------------
Joining the team with Tang Wen was Jiang Menglong, who came from ’Dongda’ domestic territory with Lin Anquan, described as a Little Pingtou, robust and tall.
Nowadays, Lin Anquan took over the defense of the ’Holy Light’ team, and Jiang Menglong, who accompanied him, became the special operations team leader.
When he first arrived, this man harbored ambitions to showcase his skills in chaotic times, eager to challenge the heroes of North America.
When the recon team needed a deputy leader, the nearly two-meter-tall Jiang Menglong rushed over to volunteer, "President Zhou, I love this apocalypse.
I volunteered to come abroad because in our country it’s mostly self-sustenance production, while abroad is chaos.
When I disembarked on North American soil, seeing the abandoned cities, clogged roads, forsaken vehicles, and collapsed society, I was utterly thrilled.
I’ve dreamed of being a hero who drinks blood from the blade and champions justice, and now I’ve finally come to the right place."
"Understood, you want to kill legally." Zhou Qingfeng could easily relate to such a mindset. Thus, this guy became the deputy leader of the recon team.
The team consisted of twelve people, with Roger and Marco serving as medic and translator. Kongges was also present, as his Caucasian appearance was somewhat useful.
Before departure, Chen Rui piloted the ’Warthog’ for routine reconnaissance, targeting the satellite town ’Farmville’ a hundred kilometers away, west of Richmond.
This was also an agricultural town, surrounded by large forests, with Interstate Highway 460 passing outside the town, making it a moderate traffic hub.
Based on aerial reconnaissance, the town housed about a thousand people. With such a population, there must be some industries; otherwise, they couldn’t sustain themselves.
The rationale for choosing this location as the reconnaissance team’s first target was the presence of an aircraft in town, which frequently flew and had visited Avoni Town several times.
Both sides knew of each other’s existence.
Farmville Town’s aircraft was the common ’Beechcraft,’ a single-wing, single-engine plane with a small cockpit and a low payload capacity.
Every time the ’Beechcraft’ appeared, the ’Warthog’ would ascend for surveillance and showcase its twin M2HB ’Old Godma’ under its wing, warning the other side not to cause trouble.
