Invincible after death, but in Warhammer 40K
Chapter 196 196: A Complete Mess
For the Iron Warriors, a drop in the concentration of Warp Energy was a minor matter; they didn't rely much on Warp sorcery to fight in the first place.
But Daemons, especially Daemon Engines losing control, was a big problem.
In order to efficiently break through the Imperial Fists' defensive lines, the Iron Warriors naturally used every means at their disposal, including a large number of these powerful Defiled Manufactorum machines.
However, due to the principles behind these things, it was a double-edged sword.
It forcibly stuffed Daemons into the twisted mechanical shells. The machine was not only a weapon, but also a terrible instrument of torture. When inside it, the Daemons would suffer eternal torment that even the most brutal Daemons would fear, and they would even be forced to serve the creator who caused it all.
As you can imagine, it contained so much anger in its soul. Once the Daemon Engine regained its freedom, it was obvious what it would do.
Because there were a large number of Iron Warriors fighting on the front lines, the sudden rebellion of the front-line Daemon Engines didn't cause much of a stir. The Iron Warriors who reacted in time could take action as soon as the Daemon Engines had just slaughtered one or two squads of Heretics nearby, throwing Melta Bombs at their vulnerable spots and turning them into wreckage.
But the problems further back were much bigger.
In order to improve loading efficiency, those Daemon Engines that had been modified into self-propelled artillery carriers were usually in the same place as a large number of shells. They didn't even need to do much; just resist slightly, and the next shell that was about to be launched would explode in the breech. The associated flames and explosions could spread into a terrifying wall of fire.
The Hell Drakes in the airfield that were being maintained with the fighters suddenly went berserk, using their breath and claws to tear countless unprepared ground crew, aircrew, and fighters into pieces.
Ordinary Daemons were relatively better off. After all, this operation was led by the Black Legion, and the Iron Warriors themselves had decent discipline. Most of them did not act rashly... However, even so, that small portion of frenzied Daemons still caused a lot of chaos.
Of course, the more deadly things did not happen within the Iron Warriors.
Internal strife, chaos, explosions.
All of this tore apart the Iron Warriors' original orderly offensive rhythm and plan, exposing large swaths of weaknesses.
The Imperial Fists on the other side were extremely confused—wasn't this something that usually happened on a large scale on the Imperial side? How did the tables turn today?
However, they obviously didn't mean to let go of this rare opportunity.
The Imperial Fists, who had just received reinforcements from the rear, launched a full-scale counter-attack, embedding themselves in every gap exposed by the Iron Warriors, and then tearing and expanding them to the point where they couldn't be healed.
If all of this could still be resolved by retreating, then another thing was unacceptable.
On the other side of the battle line.
That already fragile defensive line was even more vulnerable after being hit by the rebellion of Daemon Engines and small batches of Daemons. At the same time, the explosion of the base in the rear gave them a great shock.
In this situation, Zhang Ge and several other regimental commanders issued the order to attack.
Under the cover of the air force, which had temporarily gained air superiority, a large number of shells accurately hit the enemy's key positions and the inside of the defensive line under the guidance of aerial reconnaissance. At the same time, with six Titans as the spearhead, a large number of armored units launched an assault with the armored transport vehicles behind them.
The ones in slightly better situations, and the ones that had Iron Warriors supervising them, could still put up some resistance, but the ones in slightly worse situations...
Some tried to use laser guns to pierce the armor of Leman Russ Battle Tanks, and some simply howled and waved various weapons to launch a charge.
The combat literacy of ordinary Heretics can only be described as tragic. Their brains, which were filled with Profane Acts, could hardly accommodate anything called rationality. It was fine when there were stronger people restraining them... The question was, guess which units couldn't restrain the Daemons just now, and which targets the Daemons liked?
That's right, it was the weaker ones in the first place. Then, the slightly stronger ones among those weaker Heretics were decapitated by the Daemons, directly turning a large number of Heretics into stragglers who were even less combat-effective than armed civilians.
Originally, with the assistance of the Space Marines, some battle lines could still cause some obstacles and losses to Zhang Ge's side, but once these fragile parts collapsed, they became defensive gaps. The defensive gaps further collapsed the surrounding orderly battle lines, eventually leading to the complete collapse of the overall defense.
Before long, several regiments had crushed the defenses formed by Heretics who didn't outnumber them by much, and finally saw the Defiled Manufactorum after the missile strike.
At a glance, large numbers of huge crater as if meteors had fallen were densely distributed. Most of the originally dense buildings had either turned into fragments or were only ruins left. Even if some of them were in slightly better condition and could retain their overall structure, the personnel and equipment inside were obviously not as hard as the outer Ceramite Hull.
Judging from the observation data transmitted back by the floating Servo-Skulls, a wave of missile strikes should have caused at least 10% of the area of damage to their base.
Don't think 10% isn't much. As long as there is a crater in the middle of a runway, it will lose its functionality. As long as a forge is hit by one shot, it will basically shut down. Moreover, most of this 10% went to key areas, which can be said to be extremely deadly strikes.
Of course, for safety reasons, Zhang Ge ordered the troops to conduct another period of artillery fire coverage on the base.
This coverage made the Iron Warriors' camp leader lose his composure.
Seriously, man.
Even a worker in the underhive has some anger, let alone a high-ranking traitor Space Marine.
Judging from the battle reports coming back from the front lines, it was just a group of mortals. When was the last time I was being beaten up by a group of mortals?
Then, as soon as he arrived at the rear battlefield with his elites, he figured out why a group of mortals could break through the rear defensive lines so quickly.
The attacks of the six Titans turned the battlefield where these machines of god were into complete purgatory. The units that were hit by the Titans were very sorry that they could not persist in conveying the news back to the rear, which created the illusion that it was just a group of mortals.
The Imperial Fists were counterattacking with reinforcements in the front, and six Titans with an unknown number of "small units" were outputting damage in the rear.
Then, he realized that there was very likely a traitor with several million Heretics and hundreds of Space Marines betraying him further back. After all, unless someone was hallucinating, they wouldn't report such a large-scale force as a so-called "small unit." The only possibility was that he saw the situation was not good and directly rebelled.
After realizing these points, he smiled in relief and quickly made his own decision.
