Is It Wrong to Abusing Cartoon Tropes in Dungeon?
Chapter 230 230: CA [230]: Spinning a Web of Revelations
Spoiling secrets was a thrill, especially when Altair held all the cards. He didn't know this world's ultimate outcome, but that didn't stop him from weaving a tale. Based on the lore, the Dark Spirit King was indeed defeated by the five Spirit Kings. Their reasons for fighting? Irrelevant. He'd pin the blame, and they couldn't retaliate.
The Demon King was tied to the Dark Spirit King, and Kamito Kazehaya was the new Demon King. Calling him the Dark Spirit King's reincarnation was close enough. Even if he wasn't, he was connected, so the label stuck. His harem later became Dark Spirit Maidens, proof enough.
"Go for it, Claire. He hasn't regained his memories or power. Contract him now, lock him down. Once he awakens, your bond will keep him loyal. You'll be the Dark Spirit King's contractor, with a king fighting for you!" Altair urged, laying it on thick. Claire was destined for Kamito's harem; he was just speeding things up with a spoiler.
"Wait, didn't you say the Dark Spirit King opposes the five Spirit Kings? If Claire contracts Kamito, won't she be targeted by them?" Rinslet, ever protective of her friend, voiced concern. Contracting a Spirit King sounded fine, but not if it made Claire a target of their enemies.
Claire's excitement faded. Her family had been stripped of nobility for offending the Fire Spirit King. Her quest for power was to win the Blade Dance and beg forgiveness. Contracting the Dark Spirit King would only deepen her feud with them.
Altair waved off her fears. "No need to worry. The five Spirit Kings can't act now, or they'd have sent a Saint to eliminate this Demon King reincarnation already."
"Can't act? What do you mean?" Rinslet pressed.
"When I left the Spirit World, I sensed a dark force hidden deep within, a chaotic, corrosive power not native to that realm. Guess where it was?" Altair said, smirking.
"Where?" Claire asked.
"With the Spirit Kings, of course." His smile turned mocking. "When I fought them, I could tell they craved power and control. That dark force is immense, and knowing their greed, they likely tried to harness it to grow stronger. But it's chaotic and corrosive. They couldn't beat me, let alone master that power. By now, it's probably consumed them, driving them mad."
"A bunch of fools daring to call themselves Spirit Kings. I'd have taken the throne myself if I cared for it." Altair scoffed.
His disdain didn't provoke the girls. They were too stunned by the claim that the Spirit Kings were corrupted.
"No way. The Spirit Kings, consumed?" Claire shook her head, desperate. She needed their mercy to free her parents.
"It's simple. Look at their actions lately. Any irrational outbursts or absurd decrees? That'll tell you if they've lost their minds." Altair added.
His words silenced Claire and Rinslet. They knew the Spirit Kings' erratic behavior too well. Claire's family suffered from the Fire Spirit King's wrath, which once plunged the empire into a year without fire. Rinslet's sister was inexplicably frozen by the Water Spirit King, a punishment they'd blamed on her actions. Now, it seemed the Kings themselves were unhinged.
Altair's convincing tale swayed Claire, Rinslet, and the eavesdropping Greyworth, their faces grave.
"So, don't fret about contracting the Dark Spirit King. The other five are too far gone to notice." Altair said dismissively. "With him by your side, and with the Kings absent, no Spirit User, except those with me, can challenge you."
"Alright…" Claire nodded, dazed. Overwhelmed by revelations, she mumbled, "I need to go." And shuffled out of the canopy with a flimsy excuse.
"Claire." Rinslet called, worried but aware her friend needed space.
"You're concerned for her. She's a close friend?" Altair asked.
"Yes, my dearest friend." Rinslet admitted, unmasking their bond before him.
"You both seem troubled." Altair said, adopting a warm, brotherly tone. "Care to share? I might help."
"Can you?" Rinslet hesitated.
"I don't know Claire's issues, but yours? No problem. You're my chosen contractor. I'm Spirit King-level, and you're my Spirit Maiden. Solving your troubles is trivial. Even the Spirit Kings wouldn't dare object." Altair assured.
His words sparked hope in Rinslet. This spirit knew the Spirit World's secrets, had fought the Kings, and could've claimed their throne. Surely, he could aid her and Claire.
She confided their wishes: her desire to save her frozen sister and Claire's dream to free her parents and restore her family's honor.
"That's it?" Altair asked.
"Yes, that's all." Rinslet confirmed, nodding earnestly.
"Too easy. Consider it done!" Altair declared, the Mobile Wish-Granting Machine ready to deliver.
