Isekai Adventure in the Dimensional Cube
Chapter 776: Miss 609’s Surprise
CHAPTER 776: MISS 609’S SURPRISE
"That’s pretty much what happened."
In the luxurious office, in front of the bewildered faces of both Yuri and her servant Marilyn, Reiger went over the matter regarding Yuloli and concluded with such a phrase.
But after listening to Reiger’s explanation, the confusion on Yuri’s and Marilyn’s faces didn’t dissipate; if anything, it seemed to increase somewhat chaotically.
It couldn’t be helped.
"So, you’re saying that this person is actually an ancestor of Princess Liz, and not only that, but she’s also the last queen from the final period of the ancient magic civilization, who has been deceased for over ten thousand years, sleeping in the ancient ruins near Xinye until you entered her...uh, Her Majesty’s tomb, and then she was awakened by you using a special magic, indirectly being brought back to life...right?"
After coming to grips with the situation, Yuri briefly recounted it, yet her tone was filled with various uncertainties and even distrust, with a faint hint of "are you messing with me?"
Not just Yuri, even the usually calm and collected Marilyn was casting strange looks at Reiger, her gaze like that of someone looking at a person who is daydreaming.
Yuloli, on the other hand, seemed indifferent to their reactions, wandering around the office, touching this and that as if she were quite curious about everything here.
Reiger simply guessed what they were thinking and gave a wry smile.
"I know it’s hard for you to believe that such a thing could happen, but it is the truth. Even if you don’t believe me, you can ask Liz when you go back."
That kid wouldn’t lie, would she?
That’s what Reiger implied.
However, Yuri still looked like she couldn’t accept it.
"It’s not that I don’t want to believe you, but this is too fantastical," Yuri said, massaging her temples. "I can understand you discovering the tomb chamber of the last queen from the end of the ancient magic civilization because that ruin does indeed have deep connections to the ancient magic civilization, which is quite clear."
"I can also accept that this Majesty is an ancestor of Princess Liz, since the Sword of Moslo chose her over everyone else. It makes sense when you think about it, that Princess Liz might be a descendant of the royal family from the ancient magic civilization."
"But for you to resurrect Her Majesty, I have never heard of such a thing."
Yuri looked troubled.
"Although in the magic world, I’m just a newcomer, I am still a strategic magician, you know?"
"Even as a strategic magician, I’ve never heard in my entire life of any magic that could resurrect someone from the ancient era in modern times."
"Now, you’re telling me that you know such magic, so you conveniently brought this ancient queen back to life. This is even more preposterous than when you opened a ’Transfer Gate’ and appeared directly in my office from the Meprosto region, right?"
Yuri had thought that Reiger mastering a space-based magic with such a staggering range was astonishing enough.
But now, he’s casually brought out magic that can resurrect the dead.
Is that even magic?
Isn’t that virtually divine power?
As a magic prodigy who received a modern magic education and has some understanding of ancient magic, Yuri felt she just couldn’t accept this.
However, Yuloli’s face, which resembled Liz by nearly seventy to eighty percent, was telling Yuri that this might indeed be true.
This left Yuri feeling like her entire understanding of the world had been shaken, wondering if she might be having hallucinations from reading too many ancient magic civilization tomes recently.
Unfortunately, Reiger didn’t give her the chance to doubt herself.
"Whether you want to believe it or not, it is a fact." Reiger shrugged and said, "Otherwise, why don’t you bring over a corpse and I’ll demonstrate it for you right now?"
"...No need," Yuri remained silent for a long while before finally letting out a deep sigh, "I fear my understanding of magic will really be shattered by you, so let’s spare me from that."
"That’s your call, don’t say I didn’t offer to prove it," Reiger said with an amused smile, and then continued, "The thing I wanted to discuss with you is whether there’s a way to arrange an identity for Yuloli, to keep her from being suspected."
"You really know how to present a dilemma," Yuri responded with noticeable irritation. "Perhaps I could have managed it with someone else, but Her Majesty looks so much like Princess Liz all grown up, even if I managed to arrange an identity for her, as soon as she’s seen by the royal family, isn’t it bound to cause an uproar?"
A woman who looks so similar to the princess of the Ginaz Kingdom wandering around freely—if seen by those who know Liz exists, they are almost certain to suspect this woman is related to Liz by blood.
And if she’s related to the kingdom’s princess by blood, could she then be an illegitimate daughter of the current king?
If such skepticism and rumors were to surface, Yuloli would surely be subjected to scrutiny from all sides.
And with such investigation, could the Franzer family, no matter how resourceful, really keep the kingdom and the royal family from discovering that Yuloli’s identity was fabricated by them and is actually fake?
So, this seemingly simple task was actually far from easy.
If the country starts to have doubts and conducts investigations, Yuloli’s identity might be exposed, ultimately leading to a scandal.
If the kingdom finds out that Yuloli is the last queen from the end of the ancient magic civilization, and Reiger holds the power to resurrect others, there’s no telling whether they might go to extreme lengths to keep these two individuals under their control.
"You really are something, aren’t you? Constantly bringing such big shocks and dilemmas. What am I to do with you?"
Yuri, feeling troubled by this, couldn’t help but complain about Reiger, her tone filled with grievance.
"...Sorry."
Being addressed like this by Yuri, even Reiger felt somewhat embarrassed.
On closer thought, he had indeed brought a lot of trouble to Yuri, always making her clean up after him, giving him quite the feeling of failing to live up to expectations.
Having received so much care from her, and now bringing such a huge trouble, Reiger thought it over and felt he should find an opportunity to make it up to Yuri.
Fortunately, he had just gotten his hands on numerous Ancient Secret Treasures in the tomb of Yuloli, each of these treasures was invaluable, some even containing astonishing powers and effects. Perhaps he could pick one or two to give to Yuri.
In that way, he would make some small token of compensation.
With this in mind, Reiger made a suggestion to Yuri.
"Otherwise, I could find a way to change Yuloli’s appearance, how about that?"
Upon hearing this, Yuri fell into thought and then nodded.
"If that’s the case, things would indeed become much easier."
As long as Yuloli’s appearance wasn’t so easily suspectable, Yuri had plenty of ways to help her establish an identity.
After all, Reiger had just come back from the Neutral Zone, a place already out of sight of the various mainland kingdoms, and filled with people who couldn’t make it in other places. With a bit of arrangement, it would be possible to disguise Yuloli as a talented and unique individual who suffered persecution in a distant foreign land and had drifted to the area near Xinjele. Eventually, she would be favored by Reiger, taken in as his Attendant, and brought back to the royal city, Yalefu.
In this way, the likelihood of arousing suspicion would be virtually nil.
With this in mind, Yuri shared her view with Reiger and got his agreement.
"Let’s do it this way," Reiger immediately said, deciding on the spot: "When we return, I’ll use a special magic to change Yuloli’s appearance."
The simplest method was to cover Yuloli with an Illusion Technique to deceive the eyes and ears.
But illusions were too flawed, and if someone saw through it, it would instead attract suspicion.
Therefore, Reiger planned to use Summoning Magic to call forth a creature known as the Faceless Shade to conceal Yuloli’s appearance.
This creature had a special ability, which was to attach itself to someone’s face, covering their features, and taking on the appearance of someone else.
Its body was like a shadow, an insubstantial liquid, small creature, and belonged to the same category of magical beings as the Shape-shifting Species that could transform into others’ appearances. In terms of mimicry, it was top-notch among all living beings, and even a max-level player of level hundred would not be able to see through its disguise without specific special abilities. The only downside was that it could only change the facial appearance, unlike higher-tier beings like the Doppelganger which could also change body type and species.
But Yuloli did not need to change her body type, changing her face would be enough.
So, Reiger had chosen this type of creature, planning to make it Yuloli’s pet and help her with her transformation.
"I remember, to permanently summon the Faceless Shade, you just need to use a high-grade gemstone as the medium."
Luckily, Reiger had also obtained many high-grade gemstones rich in Magic Power in Yuloli’s tomb, one of which should suffice to summon the Faceless Shade permanently.
Yuri, unaware of the inner workings in Reiger’s mind, felt a mix of emotions upon hearing his words.
"Special magic again?"
This guy, where did he learn so many special magics from?
If she had known he was so resourceful, she wouldn’t have let him leave the Fransel mansion to travel outside in the first place.
Yuri began to feel a tinge of regret.
But the instructions that needed to be given, Yuri still made them clear.
"No matter what, you must not reveal that you have Resurrection Magic, otherwise, this time it might not be so simple as being viewed as a hot commodity and having others trying to win you over."
Yuri warned him with a stern face.
"I know."
Reiger naturally had no objections.
"That’s good," Yuri finally relaxed her expression, then asked, "What do you plan to do next?"
Reiger immediately fell into thought.
