Isekai Adventure in the Dimensional Cube
Chapter 798 - 625 you are not my daughter
CHAPTER 798: 625 YOU ARE NOT MY DAUGHTER
The royal palace, to the northeast.
In this direction, there were palaces that were not often visited in the old days.
This area of the palace was relatively quiet, inhabited mainly by those who rarely showed themselves in public, much like the cold palaces of Reiger’s previous life in ancient times. Apart from patrolling knights and maidservants tasked with menial chores, few would come here seeking anyone who resided in this place.
Many princesses had lived here before their marriage, and even among the current royal descendants, the reputedly frail and sickly eldest prince had once spent a significant amount of time here, hence it couldn’t be said that this was a cold palace only for the unfavored, but it was indeed seldom visited, giving it a somewhat desolate air.
Within this quiet area, amongst a cluster of palace buildings, was an unassuming palace situated in a rather remote location, almost as if it were meant to escape notice.
In the deepest part of this palace, in a room simply decorated yet quite spacious, sat a girl who, despite her somewhat youthful appearance, still possessed a peerlessly elegant bearing. She was idly sitting at a table.
The girl held a glittering golden sword and had long grey hair that reached down to her knees. Her pupils were also grey, exuding a bewitching and decadently beautiful aura.
Indeed, it was Liz.
This was none other than Liz’s palace, or rather, her residence from the time she was a princess.
Since the age of seven, she had lived here in seclusion, for a whole eight years, up until Hemulinp volunteered himself for the task of serving as Reiger’s attendant, prompting Liz to leave this place and rendering the palace unattended.
However, several months later, Liz, who had lost her status as a princess and became Reiger’s attendant, moving all her belongings out, found herself living here once again.
Furthermore, by the looks of the girl, she appeared somewhat distracted and melancholy.
"Your Highness."
At that moment, a maid dressed in a servant’s uniform, several years Liz’s senior, entered the room.
Equally beautiful, although not possessing the demonic allure that caused others to lose their composure at a young age like Liz, the maid was still an exceptionally gorgeous woman. At first glance, she even seemed to surpass the former princess, Marilyn, in beauty – and compared to the stunning Yuri, there might not be much difference.
"Luna..."
As Liz, who had been lost in thought, was awakened by the call of the beautiful maid, she turned her head and looked at her.
The beautiful maid named Luna was Liz’s personal maidservant, her attendant.
When Liz, at just seven years of age, moved into this palace, Luna, who was only ten, also came to live here, becoming Liz’s personal maidservant specially responsible for taking care of her daily life.
That is to say, as long as Liz had lived here, so had Luna. Even when Liz left to become Reiger’s attendant, Luna never left and continued to manage countless matters big and small for the palace.
To Liz, Luna was not only a servant but also a childhood playmate.
So seeing Luna enter, Liz, though still somewhat downhearted, forced a smile for her, eliciting a twinge of heartache from Luna.
"Your Highness, it’s time for your meal."
Luna held a tray in her hand, laid out with a variety of delicious dishes, bringing food to Liz.
"...I’m sorry, Luna, I don’t have much of an appetite."
Liz looked at the delicious dishes and shook her head, showing disinterest in eating.
"But you haven’t eaten all day, not even drinking a drop of water," Luna gently advised in a low voice. "It’s rare for you to come back here; Your Highness, you can’t treat your body this way."
Concern flickered across Luna’s lovely face, making it obvious that she was genuinely worried about Liz’s well-being.
Liz certainly saw this, but still shook her head.
"I really don’t have an appetite. Just leave it here, and I’ll eat when I feel like it," she said.
Luna, however, seemed unconvinced by her words.
"You said the same thing this morning, and yet you ended up not eating anything, didn’t you?"
Luna grumbled, causing Liz to feel somewhat guilty.
"Why don’t you eat it then, Luna?" Liz suggested a bad idea. "I know you haven’t eaten anything yet. Just have this for yourself."
"How could I possibly eat Your Highness’s food?" Luna spoke in exasperation. "Miss Cardosan would scold me to death."
Luna was referring to the head housekeeper of this area of the palace complex, who managed all the maids and servants in this area and was very responsible to those living in these palaces.
Luna was assigned to take care of Liz’s lifestyle at the age of ten because of the arrangement by head housekeeper Cardosan.
That housekeeper was also Luna’s mentor. Luna’s capability to take care of someone’s daily life at the age of ten couldn’t have been achieved without the guidance and education of Cardosan.
If she found out that Luna, as a maid, had left her master to eat by herself—worse yet, eating her master’s food—punishment would undoubtedly be in store.
"Your Highness, what is really troubling you?" Luna put the tray down and asked with great concern. "Ever since you returned here yesterday, you have been listless. Is there something bothering you?"
What Luna actually wanted to ask was whether Liz had gotten into some kind of trouble.
There was no help for it; when Liz returned yesterday, she was even accompanied by an entire squad of knights for escort (or perhaps custody), a spectacle that hardly suggested anything good.
Furthermore, not long ago, Liz had returned here to search high and low for something, as if looking for something even she wasn’t sure existed. She almost turned the entire palace upside down, and Luna had been wanting to ask if something had happened to Liz.
"If you have any troubles, you can talk to me," Luna said. "Perhaps I can’t help you with your problem, but I can at least share some of your worries."
Upon hearing this, Liz’s expression grew even more gloomy.
"Luna."
Liz called out to Luna.
"Yes, I’m here."
Luna quickly responded.
"...You should stop calling me ’Your Highness’ from now on," Liz said, her lips moving slightly. She made the bitter statement, "I’m no longer a ’Your Highness’."
"No," Luna immediately shook her head, very determinedly, "No matter what identity you hold now, whatever you do outside, in my heart, you are always Princess Your Highness."
Luna was aware that Liz had been sent by King Hemulinp to serve the recently renowned Thunder Light Sword Saint as an attendant, no longer recognized by the royal family, her identity as a princess also revoked.
Luna was very dissatisfied with this.
"With so many ’Your Highnesses’, why does Liz have to serve someone else as an attendant?"
Luna was discontent with this matter and also constantly worried about it.
As someone who had grown up alongside Liz, Luna knew her well.
She knew that, although Liz was a princess, she was a very timid person, not only shy but also easily nervous. Suddenly going out and interacting with so many people, whether this princess could adapt, whether she could live smoothly, was truly an unknown.
Besides, Luna was very aware that her princess was exceedingly beautiful, the most attractive even among the palace maids and servants, drawing the covetous attention of many powerful and influential princes and nobles, even making them seem inferior to the princess.
Moreover, the princess was not only beautiful, but also had a stunning figure, she was practically a male assassin, a weapon of mass destruction for men.
Sending such a princess to serve by the side of a young and vigorous youth, wouldn’t she be bullied?
Luna was truly worried about this.
Even she herself had had several close encounters with men trying to take advantage of her. As for a princess with a devilish beauty like Liz, her lethality to men was certainly imaginable.
This constant worry made Luna concerned that Liz might be bullied or wronged outside, or even worse, degraded to a man’s plaything, sacrificed as a means for the royal house to attract talents.
Therefore, amidst her worries, Luna also felt relentless dissatisfaction concerning Liz becoming someone else’s attendant.
Luna kept reminding herself that no matter how Liz was treated outside, as soon as she returned here, she would always be the most endearing Princess Your Highness in her own eyes.
Luna, harboring this thought, was unaware that Liz was not referring to losing her princess identity by becoming Reiger’s attendant.
"I’m really not ’Your Highness’ anymore," Liz said as she lowered her eyelids, sounding somewhat heartbroken, "I am not the daughter of the king... I am not King Hemulinp’s daughter."
Upon hearing this, Luna short-circuited.
"...What did you say?"
Luna looked at Liz in stunned disbelief.
"I said, I am not the daughter of King Hemulinp, and I am certainly not a princess of the Kingdom of Genas," Liz sighed deeply, reminiscing about the events of the previous day.
Yesterday, as soon as she had been summoned to the palace, without any preamble, Hemulinp had her cooperate with the court magician for verification.
The court magician took a drop of Liz’s blood and a drop of Hemulinp’s blood and placed them in an apparatus like a magical instrument. To their astonishment, the two drops of blood repelled each other and flew out of the instrument.
Upon witnessing this scene, the court magician’s face changed color, the breath of Rom hidden in the shadows also changed rhythm, and Hemulinp’s expression became exceedingly ugly.
Subsequently, Liz was coldly informed by Hemulinp.
"You are not my daughter."
"Who are you?"
After leaving these words, Hemulinp did not allow Liz any chance to defend herself, dispatched a small squadron of knights, and had her escorted here.
And Liz was completely bewildered throughout, not even thinking to resist. She just followed the group of knights back to this palace where she had once lived, dazed until now.
Her mind was filled with disbelief.
Yet, for some reason, Liz instinctively felt that Hemulinp was right.
She was not Hemulinp’s daughter.
She was not of the royal bloodline at all.
