Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer
Chapter 1229: Attachment and affection
[Rein's POV: ]
Now that it was revealed that I possessed the darkness attribute, there was no reason for me to hide it anymore. And since I don't need to hide it anymore, joining a class that most only join if they have affinity with Darkness attribute was no big deal, right?
'Well, I thought it wouldn't be since I'm the vice president and all.'
But no.
It was the very first class after the lunch break and they all were staring at me as if I was some kind of a repelling object that they must avoid at all cost.
"Looks like everyone's more focused on their Vice president than the teacher, huh?"
The teacher for this class was a Shaman, and the class itself was called Special arts of Darkness, something that people saw as a cult class to learn dark sorcery that mostly harms people and is useless in actual combat.
'They were gravely mistaken if they thought the things from this class were going to be useless.'
The teacher that we have here was given the title of one of the best shamas and assassins of the world.
People came to him to eliminate the obstacles in their paths that they did not want to deal with directly.
There were people who even came to him when they wanted an advantage with their diplomacy tactics. The fees that he charged was nothing small, but he did not deal with money.
What he asked as a price was something else, and his requests were never simple or easy.
'With his dark sorcery, he could make someone sick remotely. Using the ghosts, and dark creatures, he could make the financial situation of a small place crumble down.'
Thanks to his expertise, even mother Nol had a special arrangement with this person.
If I had the chance, there was no way I was going to miss his classes.
'I was excited for the class from the start…'
But right now, even though we are sitting in this special location within the academy castle most probably unknown to the students unrelated to this class, instead of looking at the teacher sitting right before us, they were staring at me instead.
"There's nothing on her face either. What is it that they're so conscious about, Miss President?" The teacher's face and body was covered in tattoo markings. They were tribal, filled with darkness Mana, and even though I could tell he was strong, I could tell he did not have as great an affinity with darkness that I did.
"I think it's because of the lunch, teacher… we didn't have lunch in the garden, and I guess students didn't like it."
The word that we ate in the office must have already spread across the academy. From how there were so few this time, the student must not have known about the lunch destination.
'They also sent in the personal chat forum for our close group instead of the open student forum.'
I mean, we were busy in the first place. We weren't even going to go out for food but the rest of them came to the office and asked for something themselves.
Darling always has food in his gate so it wasn't anything difficult to feed them all, but he still needed to make something for everyone later on, so he was perhaps still thinking about what he was going to make for the others for tomorrow.
There wasn't going to be any special thing tomorrow but there will still be some good items on the menu. However, I don't think that's important.
"I think it's more than about lunch, Miss vice president. They are upset because you didn't include them and are still sitting here as if you didn't do anything at all."
The teacher knew what was going on here and he just smirked at the students who were looking at me to the left side.
They were looking at me without maintaining eye contact with the teacher– the teacher wasn't unattractive, but he was still a simple looking old man covered in tattoos.
It was pretty disrespectful actually. I didn't like what they were doing, however, before I could say anything, the teacher released his dark Mana.
"It's good that you all like your President's cooking so much, however, this is your class time." The power in his mere presence was strong enough to bring all of them back to their senses and look back at him.
Cold sweat covered their neck and back, they must have felt a kind of fear that you might only feel when facing a demon.
'But the power of darkness was different from the corrupt power that the demons use.'
Having the darkness attribute was one thing but having such a grasp on the attribute that even your presence seemed so unfathomable was simply too impressive.
He was not famous for nothing, I see.
"Miss President." He looked at me, a strange affection present in his dark eyes.
"Yes… teacher?" I did not know why he called out to me, but since he had released his pressure, it was safe to say he wasn't going to put us through some kind of weird test.
"You have impressive Darkness." He complimented, a nod of approval following his words.
He seemed to be interested in my Darkness attribute affinity rather than me. The other students who saw his obvious favouritism could not help but wonder why he was being like this.
He was famous for not giving any compliments. The students that were attending this class were here for the teachings of dark magic and good grades. They didn't really care when the teacher praised me for having impressive darkness, but it was still a praise.
"Thank you-." I was just about to thank him, but he raised his hand and shook his head, telling me there was no need to say anything.
"Since all of you have chosen this class, I believe you knew what you were getting into, right?"
Darkness had many aspects to it. On one side, darkness was the power that could be attributed to the dead, while on the other hand, one can compare it to the shadows.
"You must already have your own ideas about what you will learn in this class as well, however, I want you to understand one thing before you learn anything from me."
Looking around the class, the old teacher brought out a fraction of the dark Mana on his hand.
"Darkness that we are going to work with isn't an elemental attribute, it's an energy." Darkness was something that one can control and manipulate. However, dark energy was not the same as Mana.
While Mana was a natural power, dark Mana was a derived version of Mana made with the darkness. The power of darkness was pretty different from its elemental attribute, something I knew already.
"When we use Darkness, we are not using the Mana that we have to cast the elemental spells of darkness attribute. If any of you wish to actually use the Dark spells, you must use the dark Mana of your own unique nature."
The dark spells were very different from the elemental spells.
Various things were used in order to use these dark spells. If one wanted to get an easy idea of what these dark spells were, they can imagine the mysterious rituals that were talked about in folklore.
'Praying to dark entities, sacrificial fire and offerings to the higher beings, even formations of dark circles with a medium like Blood.'
All these things happen in ritualistic black magic. There's also controlling emotions of people remotely, controlling their micro actions, defining their fate, and at the pinnacle of black magic, one could also interfere with the Laws of the world.
"I can sense most of you can't even use the darkness element much less dark energy. You also lack the will to go higher than a certain point within this field.
I must warn you– if you continue on this path and want to learn even one thing, you will have to let go of any and all attachments you have with the mortal world or your life."
Death and going batshit crazy were common when learning the special arts of the darkness. Necromancy, Shadow arts, even professions related to the dead were carried out by those possessing the energy of darkness.
People who followed darkness were either utterly dumb fanatics like my Morris, or crazy stupid dumbasses. There are some like my Eula as well but they are pretty rare cases that have naturally obtained darkness due to their circumstances.
"If you're ready to risk your lives, you're free to stay. But if you're trying to get your hands on a cool power to show off to someone, then believe me it's not going to work.
You will not have to attend my classes to pass the test, that part will be easy. But if you do really want to learn, then I want your utmost sincerity.
Who here will give me that?"
Perhaps, this was his final question so many of the students sighed in relief. They never really wanted to attend these classes in the first place, but if they get a no attendance required pass, they would undoubtedly use it.
"Finally."
"Haaa. That's great."
"Huh… he's much better than the rumors made him out to be."
They were relieved. Some even stood up and left the class while some of us stayed in the place.
"So? Is this all or does anyone else wanna leave as well?" The teacher asked, looking at the backs of the students who were returning to their own bases.
"Hmmm…"
He waited till they were all outside of the class, and right when they were out, he looked at us with an evil smirk.
"Now, should I show you how Darkness is used?"
He had a few strands of hair as well as a few wooden dolls in his hands now.
And to the rest of us who were seeing that villain like smirk, his intentions were a little too obvious…
