Kakashi: Godless Ascension
Chapter 94 94: Ch94: Danzo’s Fury
The meeting had ended, and with it, the Fire Daimyo's decision had been made. Tsunade Senju would be the Fifth Hokage of Konoha, and Kakashi Hatake's firm support had sealed the deal.
The jonin had rallied behind Kakashi's decision, understanding that Tsunade, with her experience and connection to the village's history, was the best choice. Nara Shikaku, ever the strategist, had supported the plan, his calm analysis providing the final push needed to convince the Fire Daimyo.
The village's leadership was set for now, and the future seemed clear.
However, not everyone in Konoha was pleased with this outcome.
Danzo Shimura, seated alone in his private quarters, seethed in fury. His wrinkled hands clenched into fists, the bitterness of defeat settling like a heavy stone in his gut.
The room was dimly lit, the shadows casting long, oppressive lines across the walls, mirroring the dark thoughts that consumed him.
"Tsunade… Tsunade of all people," Danzo muttered under his breath, his voice low and venomous. His single visible eye narrowed as he thought of the powerful kunoichi who had spent years wandering the world, never once showing an ounce of interest in returning to Konoha.
Her sudden reappearance and swift ascent to the Hokage seat had caught him off guard. Worse yet, Kakashi had been the one to support her, he who had once been a promising tool under his guidance but had grown into an unpredictable force.
And Nara Shikaku, always calm, always calculating, had been the second voice to lend weight to Kakashi's argument. The support of both of them had solidified the decision.
Danzo stood up, pacing back and forth in his dimly lit room, muttering to himself. "I should have seen this coming. Kakashi has become too popular… too influential recently. His decisions are respected. The people look up to him… And Shikaku, the ever-scheming strategist, is also playing his part."
He stopped and stared out the window, his eyes narrowing at the bustling village below. The very sight of it, of Konoha thriving in the aftermath of a crisis, only fueled his rage.
For years, he had bided his time, waiting for the moment when he could take control of the village could steer Konoha onto a path of his design.
He had done everything in the shadows, everything in his power to shape Konoha, even if it meant working outside the law and making deals with the most unsavory characters. But all his plans had crumbled today.
"The Fire Daimyo… To think he would listen to Kakashi and Shikaku, of all people," Danzo spat bitterly. "Fools. All of them."
But even as the fury bubbled within him, Danzo knew he couldn't act impulsively. He had spent decades building his influence in the shadows, quietly manipulating the course of the village's history.
A rash move now would only undo everything he had worked for. He had learned this lesson long ago. Patience had always been his ally.
"Very well, then," Danzo said to himself, his voice quiet, almost resigned. "I will bide my time. The moment will come when they will need me. Tsunade may be Hokage now, but even she cannot escape the challenges that will inevitably come her way. The village will see her flaws, her indecision. And when that time comes… I will be ready."
He turned away from the window and walked over to a table littered with scrolls, many containing the secrets of Konoha and its enemies.
He unrolled one of them and began scanning the contents, his mind already working on the next phase of his plans. Despite his fury, he remained as composed as ever, the wheels of his mind turning with quiet precision.
"Tsunade may be strong, but she lacks the conviction and clarity needed to rule this village," he muttered. "She will make mistakes. And when she does, I will be there to pick up the pieces. I will gather my allies, I will build my network. And when the time is right, Konoha will be mine."
The room was quiet, the air thick with the weight of Danzo's plans. His mind was sharp, as always, but there was an underlying sense of frustration. He had watched as the people of Konoha rallied behind Tsunade.
He had seen their respect for her, their trust in her abilities, but that did little to diminish his own belief that he was the true leader Konoha needed. Kakashi, and Tsunade, both were too caught up in their ideals.
Too caught up in the village's wellbeing, to see the true path forward. Danzo, however, knew what needed to be done. He understood the importance of control, of strength, and of decisive action.
Konoha needed leadership that could see beyond the emotional whims of the populace. Leadership that could make the hard choices, even if the village resented it.
For now, Tsunade would hold the seat of Hokage. Danzo knew that her history with the village, her ties to the Senju clan would help her gain the trust of the people.
But deep down, he knew it would not last forever. There were too many fractures, too many deep-rooted problems within Konoha that no one but he could truly address.
His mind wandered back to the days when he had tried to mentor Kakashi, to mold him into the perfect tool for Konoha's future. Kakashi had been strong, yes. But too soft-hearted, too unpredictable. And now, Kakashi's loyalty was to Tsunade, not him.
"The youth of Konoha… they're all too naïve," Danzo muttered. "They don't see the bigger picture. They only see what's right in front of them. But when Tsunade falters, as she inevitably will, they will come to me. They will need me. And I will be waiting."
Danzo's eyes hardened as he walked toward a dark wooden chest in the corner of the room. He opened it with a creak, revealing several sealed scrolls, each containing information that could bring down any of Konoha's greatest leaders.
He had kept his secrets, waiting for the right time to use them. Today was a reminder of just how much power he wielded in the shadows. And even if the Jonin and the Fire Daimyo had made their decision, he was still one of the most powerful men in Konoha.
"I will play the long game," Danzo whispered, his voice cold. "And when the time is right… I will take control of Konoha. They will all see that I was the true leader this village needed."
Outside, the sunset over the village, its fading light casting long shadows across the rooftops of Konoha. As the villagers began to return to their homes, unaware of the political undercurrents swirling around them, Danzo's resolve only grew stronger. He would not let this defeat define him. Konoha would be his, in time.
And until then, he would wait. He would watch. And when the cracks in Tsunade's leadership appeared, he would strike.
