CHAPTER 185: CHAPTER 185: LADY LUCK [2]

Chapter 185 – Lady Luck [2]

Kaden should have been more precise in his words. He had simply told Alea to go kill the most beautiful creature she knew, without asking if that creature was a beast or... a human.

Yes, he didn’t. But maybe he should have because after disappearing for more than an hour, she came back with a black-haired woman wearing tight blue assassin-like clothes that clung to her body sinfully.

She put her on the ground then, with an innocent face,

"Will she be enough? I didn’t see any other humans around," she said with a chirping tone, showing her excitement and eagerness to change her appearance, but Kaden was not quite focused on her words. Instead, he was staring with sharp eyes at the unconscious woman that was lying limply on the cold black fur carpet.

"Where did you find her?" he asked softly as he crouched down, looking at the clothes the woman was wearing and found a symbol Kaden knew all too well...

...an intricate drawing of a brain pulsing with soft but hypnotizing blue.

’The Cerveau...’ he thought with a grim face.

"I found her just outside, at the entrance of the forest, hiding with a stealth artifact but that was quite useless in front of me," she responded to Kaden while tilting her butterfly head, curious.

’So they know about my departure to the east and even tasked someone to follow me? Since when? Weren’t t they occupied with the matter of the Death Envoy?’ Kaden’s thoughts started to run in dizzying circles as questions poured down endlessly like an avalanche of rain.

The thing was, if she had followed him since he started his journey, then the fact he didn’t sense her was a problem of its own. It meant his perception was still lacking and this woman had seen his battle against the bandits and so had an idea of his strength.

The Cerveau are not dumb. They can perfectly extrapolate based on a few clues and then guess approximately his level of strength...

...not that it mattered. His strength can never be measured by normal circumstances anyway.

But still...

’These guys are truly persistent, even with an enigma like the Death Envoy, they are still after us. First it was Daela where they used the steelbeasts—by the way, I’m not done yet with those bastards—and now they send an assassin after me?’ Kaden was starting to wonder what the fuck was their obsession with them.

Why aren’t they targeting Elamin? Do they look like easy targets because of their nature?

He clicked his tongue in irritation.

He was getting tired of these fuckers who act like they are the smartest.

"Harvester, is something wrong? Is she not beautiful enough in your eyes? If yes, please wait I will go search for another one," Alea said with a nervous voice, interrupting Kaden’s thoughts.

Kaden just shook his head as he put his hand on the woman’s head. "No, she is perfect. Just wait a moment, I have some things to verify." Then, he activated his trait.

’Mind’s Eye.’

Instantly, his senses warped as he found himself in a whole different place, one that disturbed him greatly.

Compared to Selene’s mind space — which was white, with multiple panels flickering and showing her memories — inside this woman’s mind... there was nothing except blue. It looked like he was standing in an endless blue sky with the heavens as his only companion, but no...

Clink clink clink.

Kaden snapped his head in one direction as he heard the sounds of chains clashing together. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if it was wise to do what he was about to do but he was already treading already toward the place where he heard the sound, with measured steps and a tight frown lacing his face without even knowing.

Once there, his heart skipped a beat as he looked at the sight in front of him. A woman was sitting on a striking white chair, with deep chains covered in thorns wrapping her whole body tightly like a hungry serpent, her eyes closed shut.

The woman was the same as the one Alea had captured, and her body was quivering as if she was deep in the coldest place of Antarctica.

But Kaden noticed something else... he noticed that the chair the woman was sitting on was slowly but surely turning into a blue chair... like everything around him.

"Child of Blood... kill child of blood... kill child of blood... kill... Kill..."

The woman muttered again and again, giving Kaden goosebumps across his whole body.

’What the bloody hell is this?’ Kaden couldn’t help but wonder but at that exact moment, the woman’s eyes snapped open, revealing a pair of sky-blue eyes, extremely stunning, looking like dazzling sapphire crystals... but the coldness behind them was beyond anything Kaden had ever seen.

It looked like to the eyes of this being, he was nothing but an insignificant chimpanzee.

Kaden instantly staggered back, his heartbeat rising like a crescendo in a fury of choral voices.

The woman’s face split into an eerie, lifeless smile. A smile so wrong that Kaden couldn’t stop his body from shivering in pure dread.

Then she spoke, all while looking at the shaken Kaden, "Ah... a Warborn with the power of the mind. What kind of twisted joke is this?"

The voice was that of an old man.

It was Calix, The Archivist.

The moment he spoke, the chair turned all blue instantly... showing that her mind had been completely and utterly dominated.

She was now... a puppet.

Kaden didn’t respond to the man’s question. He couldn’t. His thoughts were racing in every direction to understand what was happening and he didn’t need long to realize his situation...

He was in front of one of the holding powers of the Cerveau. One with control over the mind like Selene. And one...

"You dared to introduce your mind here... you might as well—!"

"Luck is such a fickle lady..." Kaden interrupted him with a voice filled with indignation and exasperation before, without waiting, he activated his mind trait coupled with his Flame of the Harvester and instantly disappeared from the mind in a fury of flame.

Ahhh ahhhh ahhh

Kaden’s breath was ragged, his chest heaving up and down like a sailing boat on a sporadic sea.

His eyes were blank, pensive.

"Harvester! Are you okay?" Alea immediately ran toward him and crouched down in front of him, her face holding a nervous expression. Kaden would have felt weird and awkward in this situation normally. But at that moment, he had other things to worry about.

He slowly raised his head toward Alea, then with a voice that made the very surroundings quiver as a heavy scent of death and blood erupted,

"Alea," he said, his expression flat, "Kill me."

"W-What?" Alea asked as she staggered back, surprise filling her face but Kaden didn’t have the time to entertain all of this.

"I order you... to kill me." He ordered, and as Alea was now his subordinate, and as she had sworn upon her Origin and Soul to never disobey him...

...she severed Kaden’s head from his body with a flick of her scaled tail, blood sprayed out from his neck like a fountain and splashed on Alea’s face, who stood there... her eyes blank...

"Ah... Ahh... H-Harvester...?" she muttered brokenly, and soon after, a deafening sound erupted from her throat, plunging everything around her in a wave of decayed poison.
