CHAPTER 193: WAS JINGZHE WAS ONE OF THEM.

Jingzhe was sweating. He had not sweated this much since the day he made his first business deal at the age of nine. The room was cool but he felt as if he was standing on top of a coal furnace.

Mei Mei stood in front of him protectively, guarding him with her body. "Empress mother, A Zhe has no clue as to how to answer your question. The joke is so funny that it is scary."

"Oh." The empress mother responded in a no nonsense tone. There was a threat in her voice, like there would be great consequences if she was disappointed. Her demeanor was somewhat passive aggressive, her eyes cold and her breathing too calm.

Jingzhe stepped out from behind Mei Mei. He lowered her arm that she raised to protect him as if it was a solid wall that would block all arrows for him. He loved what she was doing but he needed to show her that he could protect her as well.

He was an equal partner in everything to do with her, not just a mooch she was bringing along for the ride.

Jingzhe lowered his head respectfully and said, "Empress mother, even if I have opinions, I would not dare to share them randomly. The empress is the mother of the empire, to dare to harm her is a crime. This commoner is not brave enough to carry that crime on his shoulders."

The empress mother looked at Chi Lian.

She shrugged.

The empress mother looked at Jingzhe again and she smirked. "In that case, I am not asking for an opinion. I am ordering you to give me one. If you fail to impress me, I will have your mother arrested for a random crime that I am too lazy to make up now but it will be something that will make sure she spends at least ten years in prison."

Jingzhe clenched his jaw.

"You have five seconds." The empress mother told him.

Mei Mei opened her mouth to intervene but Chi Lian shook her daughter, refusing her from intervening. Rize even pulled her away from Jingzhe’s side.

Rize gazed at Jingzhe and she told him, "Kiddo, to be one of us, you must be one of us. If you are an outsider looking in then it is best if you abandon all your thoughts on Mei Mei and Mingzhu. The affairs of the royal family and the Jun and Chi family are intertwined."

"That’s enough, he can leave now." The empress mother waved her hand dismissively.

Jingzhe heard the coldness in her tone. It was as if she had no use for him at all. But, he was unwilling to leave. Mei Mei’s world was his world and her world involved royalty and conspiracies so his world would also have to adjust. He took a deep breath. It was just an opinion anyway, it was not as if the empress mother was asking him to kill the empress.

"The American space company Cosmosis recently launched a new technology that increases the speed of their space ships. It is not safe at all, I have been looking into it." He looked at Mei Mei, hesitating for second before going on to say, "Space M paid a lot of money to acquire that technology and they have been experimenting with it. If the right or wrong person were take a trip on a space ship using that technology and an accident happened, the blame could be put on Cosmosis and the Americans."

Jingzhe exhaled stealthily. Hopefully, they did not noticed that sweat was now dripping from his forehead.

The empress mother clapped her hands, excited like a kid. "Wow, Chi Chi, you were right about him."

Mei Mei and Jingzhe looked at Chi Lian. Both of them wondered what she had said to the empress mother about Jingzhe.

"But, isn’t Space M your company?" Rize jutted towards Mei Mei with her jaw. "Let’s say something like this were to happen, wouldn’t you be affected?"

"It depends on how soon I get heads up, if something like that where to happen. But, I only own two percent of the shares now so even if something happened, I would not be affected much." Mei Mei shrugged. "I was going to acquire the shares that my ex mother-in-law had but I am reconsidering that plan now."

"I like him." The empress mother pointed at Jingzhe. "I will give a wonderful speech at your wedding."

Jingzhe’s head jerked up so quickly that he almost broke his neck.

The empress mother stood up. "Chi Chi, lets go and eat some cake. After, you can accompany me to play in the pool. I have not yet seen the golden water which feels a million little kisses."

Chi Lian nodded once at Mei Mei and Jingzhe and she followed the empress mother out.

It was Mei Mei’s turn to fall into the chair dramatically. "Aunt, that was intense. The empress mother is really scary."

"And yet Long Shuang called her a bitch." Rize snorted.

"She is young, she has not spent time around the empress mother and is unfamiliar with her methods." Mei Mei shared her assumptions. "The fact that she is alive after calling the empress mother a bitch is a miracle in itself."

Rize let out a dissatisfied snort. "If the empress mother and everyone else had not run off to the international space station and left the empress to run wild, a lot of things would be different in the royal family.

Long Bo would not be a big enough threat to Junjie. This whole mess with Mo Liang would not have happened. Long Shuang would be a nuisance and the Hui family would not have produced the Commissioner General of police.

Hui Yixuan is aiming to be the next minister for state security with the support of Long Bo and the empress. If they are not stopped in time, they will turn our royal family upside down. And then they will come for the Jun family, the Jang family, Chi, Tao, Huang and keep going until they rule the empire.

That marriage was a mistake. I said it back then that the Hui’s could have been in on the conspiracy to assassinate the grand emperor and pretend to be his life saviors. How can a police chief just happen to coincidentally be fishing on the same lake as the grand emperor when an assassination happens?"

Mei Mei sat up with a frown on her face. "Aunt, a police car followed me in the morning, at around 4:15. It was waiting outside my house and tailed me, making some threats and yet not daring to actually cause an accident. I got the name of the police officer. You don’t suppose that its the doing of the Hui’s."

Rize cursed and jumped up. "I am telling your mom. It is time to clean house again. We put the empress mother on the throne, we can do the same for a new empress."
