CHAPTER 130: CHAPTER 130: DRIVEN MAD BY JEALOUSY

Annelise stopped in her tracks, her palms sweaty from anxiety.

She was terrified that Elias Warner might do something outlandish.

She closed her eyes in fear.

"Dr. Joyce, they should have informed you from above to follow the crew onto the plane to replace the first aid kit, please hurry!"

Annelise felt a faint scent of sandalwood quickly dissipate from her side after these words were uttered.

Did he leave?

Only then did Annelise dare to open her eyes.

Chloe placed a hand on Annelise’s shoulder, looking at the back of Elias Warner as he walked away.

"It’s the first time I’ve seen Captain Warner speak so coldly. The plane is about to take off, we really should hurry, let’s go!"

Chloe had already prepared the new first aid kit.

Annelise adjusted the scarf that Chloe nearly pulled off.

If Chloe saw it, she would definitely question her.

Still in a daze, Annelise was led by Chloe onto the plane that Elias Warner was piloting.

"Hey, have you heard that Captain Perry is coming back? He’s just returned from his honeymoon with his new wife. I’m really envious of June Winter for marrying Captain Chase Perry."

"Yeah, Captain Chase Perry is so handsome!"

The gossiping flight attendant blushed.

Elias Warner stood to the side, listening to the two gossip as he glanced over at Annelise and Chloe, who were changing the first aid kit.

Annelise paused slightly when she heard the flight attendant’s words, thinking that Luna being able to return must have been with Chase Perry’s help.

For so long, she hadn’t been in contact with Chase.

When Chase returns, she should properly thank him.

Elias Warner took it all in.

As expected, she still likes Chase Perry.

Hearing of Chase’s return stirred her heart.

Even while changing a first aid kit, she’s flustered.

Chloe had already replaced the first aid kit and, seeing Annelise in a daze, tugged at her hand and said nonchalantly, "Annelise, it’s done, we should go down now, the plane is about to take off!"

"Oh!"

Annelise snapped out of it, being pulled off the plane by Chloe.

"Annelise, what’s wrong with you? How come hearing about Captain Perry made you so flustered? Could it be that you haven’t gotten over Captain Perry?"

Chloe gossiped.

"What are you talking about? There’s nothing between Captain Chase Perry and me, don’t listen to others’ nonsense!"

Annelise denied and was still thinking about how to thank Chase.

"Really? Then all those rumors about you and Chase Perry were all false?"

Chloe pressed on.

Annelise paused; indeed, the rumors between her and Chase back then were false, just a show for Elias Warner.

But it no longer mattered now.

And no one could know about it.

"Chloe, what are you going on about!"

Annelise frowned.

The two of them talked as they walked out of the boarding gate.

Annelise was still lost in thought and got tapped on the shoulder by Chloe.

Annelise looked up and saw Chase Perry and June Winter.

It seemed the news on the plane was true; Chase was indeed back with June.

The honeymoon was over, but June didn’t look the part.

Chase seemed tired as well.

Seeing Annelise, Chase noticed how she appeared even more worn out and pitiable compared to before.

Could something have happened?

Since he had Flora bring Luna back, he hadn’t checked on Luna, but with June around, he couldn’t ask.

Maybe another day, he’d visit Luna at the hospital.

Chase’s unintentional pause made June notice his distraction.

"Let’s go, Chase, why are you stopping here?"

June tugged at Chase’s arm to continue walking.

Chase felt a bit awkward.

"Chase, you and my sister were once lovers. Now that you see her, you don’t even say hello? Could it be you haven’t let go?"

Chase glared at June: "What nonsense are you spouting?"

"Chase, let’s go. Do you want people gossiping about my sister?"

June pulled Chase’s hand and walked toward Annelise and Chloe.

"Hi, we’ve returned from our honeymoon. We’re planning to treat the airline colleagues to a big meal soon. We’d love for you to come!"

June glanced at Annelise.

Somehow, Luna’s face flashed in her mind instantly.

She was about to go mad with jealousy.

If that child truly was Annelise and Chase’s, what would she do?

"Congratulations... congratulations!" Chloe quickly chimed in.

Annelise looked up, naturally offering her congratulations as well.

She had long stopped wanting to burden Chase; the rumors over the years must have caused him considerable pain, too.

"Congratulations!"

Annelise pulled Chloe away.

She didn’t want to be in the same frame with Chase for too long, for fear of people gossiping.

Even with June present, she worried about being talked about by some nosy person.

"By the way, don’t forget about tomorrow’s party. I hope everyone from the airline can attend and share in our wedding joy! Sister, especially you, I hope to see you at the party. Mom and Dad will be there, and I hope you can get along well with them. Maybe they’ll let you come home!"

June called out loudly to Annelise and Chloe’s retreating backs.

"There’s no need, I won’t be returning to the Winter Family!"

"Sure, we’ll definitely be there!"

Chloe turned back, agreeing on Annelise’s behalf.

"Sister, you really must come to the party!"

Annelise didn’t refuse again.

If she refused, people would probably suspect her relationship with Chase even more.

So she defaulted to Chloe’s response.

Once they had walked a distance away, Chloe checked Annelise’s expression and spoke up for her.

"What’s she so smug about, being away for so long and coming back just to take your place and kick you out of the Winter Family!"

Chloe got angry talking about it.

"I was never the Winter Family’s biological daughter, so there’s no need to say ’kick out.’ Even if they hadn’t driven me away, I would have left sooner or later!"

Annelise never wanted to return to that heart-wrenching home again.

"Annelise, let it go. The Winter Family doesn’t deserve a daughter as good as you. June inviting you to her party must be intentional. Why fear her? Just go! Let’s see if her party can make any waves!"

"Alright, Chloe, why bother with her?"

Annelise and Chloe returned to The Airline.

After finishing all her work, Annelise thought of Luna.

She had wanted to visit Luna yesterday, to hold her little body while sleeping, but still hadn’t found the time to see her. She wondered if Luna had gotten used to living with Mrs. Lockwood.

Perhaps because of the bond between mother and daughter, as Annelise thought about this, she received a call.

It was Luna calling.

"Mommy, why didn’t you come back to see Luna last night? I waited for you for so long, Mommy!"

Luna blinked her big eyes, looking pitifully at Annelise through the video.

"Mommy will come back to see you after work today, alright?"

"No need, Luna didn’t sleep well last night and misses you. It breaks my heart, so I’m bringing her to you now. We’re at the entrance of The Airline, come out for a bit!"

It was Mrs. Lockwood’s voice.
