Landing on Her Heart: Mr. Warner, Let's Get Back Together!
Chapter 14: Disheveled as She Got Out of His Car
CHAPTER 14: CHAPTER 14: DISHEVELED AS SHE GOT OUT OF HIS CAR
This suit is a bespoke piece, definitely can’t be hand-washed. The cleaning fee alone is quite a sum.
The remaining surgery expenses still haven’t been settled, and tomorrow I have to fly to Breslin.
As soon as the donor heart arrives, the surgery could commence at any moment; not a single day can be delayed, nor anything missed.
This suit came just in time.
With no other choice, she decided to clean this suit and sell it on the second-hand luxury market for some money?
At least the surgery expenses for her daughter could be covered.
Even if he is unaware, his blood also runs in the veins of his daughter.
It could also be counted as the father’s contribution to the daughter’s medical expenses.
She promises that after the surgery, she would find a way to buy the suit back.
All she wants is for her daughter to get better, and she won’t let him know of his daughter’s existence to disturb his life.
It was already past eight in the morning, and she had to go to work by nine.
Annelise could only go to the second-hand luxury store after her shift tomorrow morning, then take a taxi to the neighboring city, and fly to Breslin.
Before leaving, afraid she couldn’t hold out, she took fever medicine and drank hot water.
Just as she came downstairs, she saw someone waiting for her; it was the housekeeper by Elias Warner’s mother’s side, "Uncle Ray."
Annelise clenched her palms tightly and greeted politely.
Her guard was fully up.
Uncle Ray’s face was as cold as ever, opening the car door for her, "Miss Annelise, Mrs. Warner said she hasn’t seen you in a long time and misses you a bit, so she asked me to bring you to the Whitlock Estate."
Mrs. Warner sent the most esteemed Uncle Ray to fetch her personally, which was resolute, giving her no chance to refuse.
Unexpectedly, after barely avoiding the Whitlock Estate last night, she was invited back just a night later.
The Whitlock Estate is located atop the beautiful Mount Aeridor in Kybourne, the most luxurious century-old mansion in Kybourne, with hundreds of acres of private helipad on the mountainside.
A luxurious mansion blending Chinese and Western styles, from which you can overlook the entire city center’s night view, is a symbol of wealth and status.
After entering the main gate, the car drove for a few more minutes before stopping in front of the main house.
Mrs. Warner, Renee Perry, was a beauty queen in the 1990s and the apple of the eye of a top aristocratic family.
In her youth, she was rebellious, but eventually sacrificed for family glory, choosing a powerful alliance to ensure the stability and prosperity of both the Warner and Perry families.
Back when Annelise was still the eldest daughter of the Winter family, Renee was quite fond of her and often invited her to the estate.
Even after Mrs. Winter’s passing, because of her affection for Elias Warner, Annelise even lived at the Warner’s for a few years, and Renee raised her as a daughter.
However, when Annelise was no longer the biological daughter of the Winter family, Renee felt Annelise was no longer fit for Elias Warner.
That was when Annelise moved out of the Warner residence.
She could understand Renee. If she were Renee with a son as outstanding as Elias Warner, she wouldn’t want him to marry a girl of uncertain lineage.
When Annelise changed shoes and entered the foyer, Renee was sitting on the sofa, petting her lazy, noble Ashera spotted cat.
The distinguished and magnificently luxurious first lady of the elite, holding an expensive mixed-breed cat, belonged to a world entirely different from Annelise’s.
In such a place, crushing her would be as simple as crushing an ant.
"Ms. Warner."
It seemed a breeze wafted by as Renee adjusted her velvet shawl, lifting her long, stunning eyes to look at Annelise.
Her demeanor was intimate, "Annelise is here, come sit down."
Annelise pressed her lips together, fighting through her discomfort, and sat down on the sofa opposite Renee.
"Why do you look so pale? I had Mama Carter make your favorite soup; have some while it’s hot later."
Annelise found it hard to sit still; after hesitating for a moment, she cut to the chase, "Ms. Warner, I took leave to come here and can’t stay long. Is there something you want to say to me?"
Renee, unhurried, elegantly crossed her legs, her beautiful amber eyes resting on Annelise, smiled.
She took out a roster from the side, placed it on the table, and pushed it in front of Annelise, "You know your brother is back, right?"
Annelise’s breathing faltered a bit, her gaze hastily lifting to look at Renee.
When the marriage agreement was annulled, the Warner family, to maintain its reputation, adopted her as a goddaughter.
So to say that Elias Warner is now her brother wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
Clenching her palms, Annelise steadied her mind, unwilling to reveal a hint of emotion, "Yes, I’ve heard. Our airline issued a personnel announcement."
"You also know, these years, he has been abroad. My most urgent concern is his personal issues. Although our Warner family doesn’t need him to solidify his status through marriage, someone of his stature certainly needs to find a bride from a family of equal standing. I am now undecided, perhaps you can advise?"
Annelise’s gaze fell on the roster, unopened, "Ms. Warner, hasn’t Elias already got a girlfriend? Why is there still a need to choose?"
"Oh?" Renee said with a hint of meaning, "How do you know?"
"There’s a rumor within the airline."
"Indeed. There is, and he truly likes her, insisting on marrying, but I still worry he might not choose wisely and repeat past mistakes."
Annelise’s heart stung, understanding the implication in Renee’s words.
However, the pain couldn’t compare to Renee’s remark about him really liking and insisting on marrying.
So, his relationship with his girlfriend has deepened to this extent?
Annelise lowered her gaze, feeling a layer of mist enveloping her eyes.
"Ms. Warner, I don’t quite understand such matters, you..."
Before finishing her sentence, Renee interrupted her.
Renee’s gaze suddenly carried strong oppression, coldly looking down at her, "Unwilling?"
Annelise’s spine was straight, not retreating.
Before she could speak, Renee sneered, "Or do you still hold unrealistic fantasies about my son? You should know that your current identity is the Warner family’s goddaughter, and you’ve also been in talks with Chase Perry. Brothers and sisters in the Warner family mustn’t do anything immoral! Or, is it that you’re alright with being tainted yourself, and disregard even his reputation?"
"I haven’t." Annelise’s face also turned cold!
"Haven’t? Then dare you say that it wasn’t you whom Elias pulled disheveled from his car in front of the estate last night?"
