CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: ELIAS WARNER ON THE VERGE OF EXPLODING

"Isn’t it too late to back out now?"

Elias Warner was enveloped in a violent aura, with emotions nearly impossible to endure hidden deep within his dark eyes.

Annelise Winter’s heart skipped a beat, and in an instant, Elias changed his mind.

"I’m not going! Let me down! I don’t want to see your daughter!"

"You don’t even have the right!"

Elias carried her into the elevator, intending to press the button for the children’s ward, but his hand moved down to another floor.

Unexpectedly, Elias brought her into the convalescent ward.

Caden Lynch was initially doing push-ups in the ward, preparing for a quick recovery, not expecting Elias would come in carrying a pretty girl.

"Damn."

Elias’s face darkened, not expecting Caden to be in the ward not wearing a hospital gown, half-naked.

Annelise screamed and buried her face into Elias’s chest, embarrassed, angry, and anxious!

"Elias Warner, what are you doing?"

Surely he wasn’t trying to hand her over to this guy to vent his anger?

The temperature around dropped, Elias held her with one hand, letting her hide in his embrace.

With the other hand, he picked up the hospital gown that Caden had thrown aside and tossed it over Caden’s face, "Close your eyes and put on your clothes!"

Caden turned bright red; he was righteous-looking, but at this moment, his blushing face resembled an embarrassed youngster.

He hurriedly put on his clothes, and once he was dressed, Elias had already placed Annelise on the sofa.

He loomed over completely.

His long arms propped on the armrests of the single sofa, his bent body resembled a bow strung to its limit, "Stay here quietly before I come back. If you dare to take a step out, you’ll stay in Breslin and never think of returning home!"

Annelise’s back sank into the sofa, enveloped by Elias’s cold aura.

Yet she wasn’t frightened by his threat.

Making her stay in Breslin, never returning home, was her wish all along, if only it weren’t for his mother’s threats, or fear of his mother discovering her daughter’s existence.

She might have settled in Breslin long ago.

Looking up at him, Annelise refused to concede, "Weren’t you going to take me to see the child? Why? Hasn’t he grown up yet?"

Obviously, she was referring to Caden.

Caden, a hot-blooded man, couldn’t tolerate being called a child by a woman, it was humiliating.

The fists hanging by his sides tightened, but because of Elias’s command, he dared not utter a word!

Elias’s eyes lowered, "I’m warning you, don’t even think about making a move on him, you can’t afford it!"

Annelise, bound at the wrists, shook the tie on her hands, "Then help me untie first!"

But Elias ignored her, straightened up, and looked at Caden on the side, "Caden, keep an eye on her. If you let her escape before I return, don’t bother reporting to Kybourne South Airlines!"

"She won’t get away!" Caden was confident, excitedly opening his eyes.

"Alright, I’ll check when I return!"

Elias gave Annelise a meaningful look, glanced at his watch, and then strode away.

Annelise, with her hands bound but feet free, instinctively tried to follow Elias upon seeing him leave.

But unexpectedly, Caden’s broad, sturdy body blocked the door like a guardian.

He closed the door and leaned directly against the door panel, blocking Annelise’s way.

Only then did he formally look Annelise in the eye.

In his impression, Elias was a cold and restrained person, strict with himself, never seen with any woman around him, despite so many women admiring him, he always avoided them like the plague, uninterested.

The only woman he knew of was his first love; when Elias first arrived in South Surina, he was icy, as if on the verge of exploding at any moment.

Yet, he displayed absolute focus during work.

Possessing terrifying self-control!

If there wasn’t something special between them, how could he be holding a woman?

Especially such a beautiful woman.

He wouldn’t even let him look.

It seemed that in her presence, even his good friend’s emotions fluctuated intensely.

Caden suddenly had a revelation: could she be the woman who once dumped his good friend?

Caden’s alarm bells went off!

This room had only one door!

The place Caden blocked was the only exit.

Annelise’s phone rang, vibrating, but she couldn’t even reach it.

Yet she knew the call must be from the hospital!

Her daughter’s surgery was approaching, and she’d overcome all obstacles to get to Breslin.

She had to be by her daughter’s side, immediately, without delay!

...

On the other side, Elias hastily reached Luna’s ward and saw a group of doctors and nurses surrounding Luna, performing various tests.

The little one looked desolate, rejecting all examinations.

The surgery was scheduled for tonight.

But when Luna woke up, neither Mommy nor Daddy was present.

Just when everyone was at a loss, Elias’s appearance made everyone sigh with relief!

"Daddy!"

Little Luna’s eyes brightened seeing Elias appear, her teary, wide eyes looked at Elias so aggrievedly.

Apprehensive and hesitant to approach, Elias donned a sterile suit, his tall frame instantly wrapped up.

He walked over, inexplicably feeling a sense of guilt, as if he was innately not supposed to abandon her.

Only when Luna leapt into his arms did he feel tranquil in his heart.

"Daddy, where did you go? I thought you were going to disappear again... it scared me, boo hoo hoo..."

"No, Daddy won’t disappear. I’ll stay with you through the surgery, alright?" Elias coaxed in a soft voice.

"Mmm mmm mmm!"

Luna knew reuniting with Daddy was short-lived, yet she was so happy, she suddenly liked being sick a little.

If it weren’t for her surgery, Daddy probably wouldn’t have time to accompany her?

And Mommy...

In fact, he had little experience coaxing little girls, especially a four-year-old.

The only experience he had was with Annelise.

Girls are delicate, with cold hands and feet in winter needing him as a heater, always suffering menstrual pain with tears, unable to sleep pressed against her beautiful hair...

If he and Annelise hadn’t separated, they maybe would have had a child too.

But there’s no if.

Yet if Annelise had carried his child, only to cruelly end it, if it were true...

"Daddy... what’s wrong? Did someone make you angry?"

Luna’s little hand, still with an IV attached, couldn’t help but reach up to smooth Daddy’s worries, suddenly sensing a thick low pressure!

Elias didn’t expect his expression was so off that it could upset a child, "No sadness, Daddy was just thinking, Luna is so brave, should Daddy fulfill one of Luna’s wishes?"
