Chapter 76: Elias Warner Receives the Paternity Test Results
CHAPTER 76: CHAPTER 76: ELIAS WARNER RECEIVES THE PATERNITY TEST RESULTS
"Chase, I... I didn’t hear anything, I just came to check on you. I saw your door wasn’t locked, so I... just walked in..."
Chase Perry got up and slowly approached June Winter.
"Are you sure you didn’t hear anything?"
His eyes seemed to harbor a murderous intent.
June Winter was terrified, but she indeed hadn’t heard anything.
She immediately swore, "I really didn’t hear anything, Chase, I swear I didn’t hear anything!"
Chase Perry scrutinized her closely and confirmed that June probably hadn’t overheard his conversation with Annelise.
Otherwise, with June’s temperament, she would’ve lost her temper by now.
"Oh, sorry, I’ve been a bit anxious staying here, so my attitude towards you wasn’t great. Hope you don’t mind?"
"Not at all, how could I mind?"
"Actually, you don’t need to waste time here with me. Just go have some fun, enjoy your walk. I’ve delayed your honeymoon time, I’ll make it up to you when we’re back!"
"Hmm, Chase, how come your injuries look worse?"
June Winter gazed at Chase Perry’s bruised and swollen face.
"No they don’t, you must be mistaken!" Chase quickly diverted, "I’m going to wash my face, haven’t even washed since I got up this morning!"
"Alright, you go ahead, I’ll wait for you!" June Winter said, but her heart was already seething with anger.
Clearly, when she walked in, she heard him making a call to a woman.
Upon discovery, he was enraged and embarrassed.
If she hadn’t pretended to be weak, Chase might have impulsively done something rash.
"Splash!"
June Winter heard the sound of water.
Chase was probably taking a shower.
June Winter noticed Chase’s phone on the bed and recalled the call he had with that woman; she wanted to see who exactly Chase had been contacting.
Her instinct told her the woman was likely Annelise.
She picked up Chase’s phone, ready to unlock it, only to find it was password-protected.
June Winter held the phone, pondering what the password could be.
She tried their wedding anniversary, Chase Perry’s birthday, but none worked.
Suddenly, she thought of Annelise’s birthday.
She entered Annelise’s birth date into the phone, and it unlocked.
June Winter gazed at Chase, showering in the bathroom, her eyes reddening completely.
Yet, she didn’t go hysterical; she just wanted to see who Chase had been talking to just now.
Upon opening the phone, she found Chase’s recent video call logs were all with Annelise, but strangely, their chat history consisted only of video calls, without any text messages.
The hurt was real.
The honeymoon wasted because of his injuries.
She tirelessly cared for him every day, yet he called Annelise behind her back.
Why couldn’t she compare to Annelise?
Chase emerged from the bathroom only to see June Winters holding his phone in a daze.
He snatched the phone from her hand, "What are you doing with my phone?"
June Winter seemed as if she was about to lose Chase.
Her heart ached terribly, tears welled, and she felt wronged, "Chase, I just wanted to tidy up the room for you. I won’t go anywhere these days, I’ll stay here with you, alright? Get better soon, and we can go out together again!"
Chase’s emotions were mixed; his marriage to June was a result of an unavoidable family commercial alliance.
But lately, he had been hospitalized due to injury.
This lady had been taking care of him day and night, without throwing a tantrum over the disrupted honeymoon.
He couldn’t be too unreasonable.
"Okay, do as you wish!"
Chase lit a cigarette.
Let the smoke fill the room.
Elias Warner hadn’t returned to the ward since he stirred trouble for Chase there.
He was waiting for the DNA report.
Finally, in the afternoon, he got hold of the report.
To his surprise, it showed only a five percent similarity between Chase and Luna.
Elias Warner frowned coldly. Could he have been overthinking it? Luna might be unrelated to Chase?
But something still felt odd.
Though skeptical, Elias Warner didn’t have much time, needing to fly back home.
He didn’t want to waste any more time.
He returned home immediately.
He arrived when it was early morning domestically.
"Where is Annelise?" He asked, eyes half-closed, uncommonly tired, leaning in the car’s back seat.
In all black, he exuded a low-profile yet mysterious aura, cold and strong.
Uncle Ford in the front passenger seat reported, "Young Master, Miss Annelise has been taken to the old residence. Shall we proceed there directly?"
"Yes."
She really won’t obey.
Didn’t move back.
The deep night at The Sandalwood was shrouded in a bleak wind.
Annelise didn’t feel sleepy at all, sitting alone by the floor-to-ceiling window, her mind uneasy.
She didn’t know the outcome of the paternity test.
If Elias Warner discovered Luna’s identity, what should she do?
Her words with Chase today were a vent of frustration; giving up would be impossible.
Luna was her lifeline.
How could she allow Luna to leave her?
If Elias Warner found out Luna was his daughter, he would surely fight for custody.
Thinking about these things, when Mama Carter called her for dinner, she merely took a few quick bites, utterly disinterested.
Both famished and dizzy due to low blood sugar, she felt somewhat thirsty.
Annelise, wearing a camisole nightgown, slippered down the stairs towards the kitchen.
Switching the kitchen light on, spotting some pastries in the fridge, she took one bite.
She stood at the tile counter, the scenery outside pleasant, unnoticed by her.
Not realizing she was the highlight of this landscape.
Fair skin, long black hair flowing behind, perfect figure, and a hint of sensuality.
But Annelise didn’t care about any of these.
She picked up a glass of cool water and drank.
Under the dim kitchen light, her slender figure was soft and alluring, evoking a destructive desire.
She set down the glass, switched off the kitchen light, and prepared to leave.
In a distracted moment, exiting the kitchen, she was restrained by a pair of large hands.
"Ah!"
Her frantic scream was muffled by a man’s cold palm.
The man reacted swiftly, covering Annelise’s mouth with his large hand.
Annelise struggled, but it was futile, as she was lifted onto the tile counter, her entire body held up.
"Mmph."
A frigid, cold breath, forceful and arrogant.
Annelise tried to strike her assailant, to bite his hand, but her arms were forcibly pinned behind her!
Moonlight streamed outside, clearly reflecting the man’s handsome face.
All of Annelise’s strength drained away.
