Chapter 406: Arrest Operation, Crashing into a Trash Can
CHAPTER 406: CHAPTER 406: ARREST OPERATION, CRASHING INTO A TRASH CAN
The black SUV sped forward through the night streets of Los Angeles. Considering Kelly Hunter’s exceptional skills, Luo An kept a SWAT transport vehicle closely following behind the SUV to minimize the chances of unexpected incidents.
This time, it wasn’t Luo An driving but Winslow; Reesi and Chenier sat in the back checking their equipment, while Luo An, who was sitting in the passenger seat also inspecting the gear, was on the phone with Mona.
On the other end of the call, Mona, looking at her computer, said:
"I just compared Kelly Hunter to those five guys who robbed the warehouse—his build, walking posture, habitual movements. I’m certain he’s the one responsible for driving the MPV.
Not one of those two who shot and killed four sentries, but one of the two who entered the surveillance room and turned off the monitoring system."
"Well done."
Luo An thought for a moment, then asked:
"Did you check Kelly Hunter’s social relations? Can we find the remaining four through this method?"
"Sorry, I couldn’t find anything."
Mona in the Special Investigation Team’s office spread her hands, indicating that the call made to Kelly Hunter in the restaurant’s surveillance video came from a public phone on the streets of Los Angeles, where there was no surveillance, so the other party is unknown.
Since Kelly Hunter avoids taxes, he keeps a low profile; the relationships that could be checked are blatantly clear, basically no friends, and the people around him are all related to his cousin Leona.
Having heard this, Luo An didn’t say much more, simply chatted briefly with Mona, then hung up.
The next target was to capture Kelly Hunter and bring him back to the Special Investigation Team, in hopes that making him talk would reveal the truth behind this case.
Twenty minutes later, the SUV and the transport vehicle arrived at the community where Kelly Hunter’s cousin, Leona lived.
Mona had checked Leona’s personal information previously. She worked as a manager at a turf company in Los Angeles, was economically stable, didn’t own any property, and her residing two-story apartment was rented.
From a few dozen meters away from that apartment, a SWAT team member used a telescope to ensure everything inside the apartment was normal. Receiving this message, Luo An immediately decided to split forces with Winslow.
Luo An and Chenier formed one team, following a few SWAT members to raid the front door, while Winslow and Reesi formed another team, rushing to the apartment’s back door with some SWAT members, also sealing off the surrounding area of the apartment to prevent Kelly Hunter from escaping.
Once the plan was set, everyone checked their equipment again, and once everything was confirmed to be in order, Luo An pressed the communicator and whispered:
"Begin the operation!"
Boom—
As the sound ended, several SWAT members swiftly charged towards the apartment. The leader, wielding a battering ram, forcefully smashed it, instantly breaking open the apartment door.
"FBI!"
"Freeze!"
"Go upstairs, go upstairs!"
The moment the door burst open, the SWAT members behind barged into the apartment, shouting commands loudly while quickly checking each room. Discovering no one in the first-floor living room, kitchen, and storage room, they immediately rushed to the second floor, with Luo An and others following closely behind.
Crack—
Crash—
As the leading SWAT members just reached the second floor and Luo An with Chenier were still on the stairs, a sudden sound of glass breaking came from upstairs, followed by the loud calls of SWAT members outside:
"He’s here!"
"Take cover! Take cover! He has a gun!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Upon hearing the noises outside the apartment, Luo An frowned slightly and, bracing his right hand on the stair railing, flipped his body and quickly jumped down to the first floor.
As he did so, under the shocked gaze of Chenier and several SWAT officers, Luo An’s figure instantaneously disappeared from the spot, and he dashed out of the apartment like a cheetah.
"Fu-k!"
Chenier, momentarily stunned, cursed under her breath and quickly turned and ran down the stairs, chasing after Luo An towards the outside of the apartment.
At the same time, Reesi and a SWAT officer were entering the apartment interior through the back door. Only Winslow and three SWAT officers were stationed outside for the blockade.
Seeing Kelly Hunter suddenly jump from the second floor, Winslow and the others instinctively wanted to pull their triggers, but Kelly Hunter managed to fire several shots towards Winslow and the others’ position as he leaped from the second-floor, forcing them to turn and take cover initially and prepare to counterattack when Kelly Hunter lands and attempts to escape.
Bang—
As Kelly Hunter landed, he swiftly performed a roll forward, and seeing this, Winslow did not hesitate to raise his gun and shoot, successfully hitting Kelly Hunter’s shoulder.
Kelly Hunter reacted quickly; the moment he was shot, he rolled to a stop, ready to get up and flee, and without a thought, he raised his pistol, aiming at Winslow’s position.
He prepared to pull the trigger, forcing Winslow to retreat behind cover, betting that Winslow valued his own life more, thus buying himself time to escape.
But what Kelly Hunter hadn’t expected was that Winslow showed no intention of ducking for cover and raised his pistol almost at the same time as Kelly Hunter; at that instant, both their gun muzzles were aimed at each other.
Kelly Hunter felt a chill in his heart and was about to pull the trigger without hesitation, but just then, a dark shadow rushed toward him with a whooshing sound.
Startled, Kelly Hunter instinctively turned his head, his gun-hand slightly deviating, causing the muzzle originally aimed at Winslow to skew slightly, and thus the trajectory of the bullet shifted considerably.
Winslow seized the opportunity to crouch down and fire, successfully hitting Kelly Hunter’s right hand that held the gun.
However, what truly disabled Kelly Hunter wasn’t the bullet but the dark shadow.
Kelly Hunter had barely noticed the shadow in the corner of his eye, and before he could react, he suddenly felt a massive force at his waist.
His right hand, hit by the bullet, had just started to throb with pain when, without time to scream, Kelly Hunter found himself flung uncontrollably like a ragdoll by this huge force, heavily crashing into the garbage bins at the back of the apartment.
Bang—
The garbage bin instantly tipped forward, and all the trash inside spilled over Kelly Hunter.
Brushing off the trash from his face and tossing it aside, Kelly Hunter, fuming with anger and cursing loudly, regained his normal sight just in time to see a pair of large feet kicking towards his head, and before he could finish his expletive, he fainted.
Luo An, lightning-fast, charged out from the apartment, kicking Kelly Hunter aside, then moved next to the garbage bin and knocked Kelly Hunter out with another kick. Chenier watched in stunned silence, swallowing slowly, gaining a new appreciation for the abilities of her team leader.
Winslow’s eyes also widened a bit; he had experienced Luo An’s speed during a previous case, but it had been too dark to see clearly.
Now, witnessing Luo An’s actions, Winslow realized he had underestimated him; by quick comparison, he found that, just like with strength, he likely, maybe, probably still couldn’t surpass Luo An in speed.
Luo An handcuffed Kelly Hunter, patted the shoulder of Winslow who was somewhat questioning his own presence in the Special Investigation Team, handed Kelly Hunter over to him and Chenier, saying:
"Call an ambulance to get this guy to the hospital and stop the bleeding. You two keep an eye on him tonight, and bring him back to the Special Investigation Team tomorrow."
"OK."
"No problem."
Winslow and Chenier nodded in agreement. As Luo An was about to continue speaking, Reesi suddenly emerged from the apartment, her expression strange, and quietly approached Luo An and the others, whispering:
"Luo An, I’ve found something related to Kelly Hunter."
