CHAPTER 410: CHAPTER 410: THE TRUTH OF THE CASE, EMERGENCY SITUATION
Special Investigation Team, Office Area.
Hearing Mona’s words, Luo An, Chenier, and Michelle all gathered around her. Luo An also asked inquisitively:
"What’s the matter?"
"The leader of this drug trafficking group is very economically savvy. After making a fortune from drug trafficking, he spread his cash around the world investing in legitimate businesses to make money."
Mona pulled up a joint investigative report issued by the Department of Treasury and the DEA. This report included information on major drug lords from South America and some corrupt individuals from certain South American countries, detailing their specific investments within the federal territories.
According to the report, the leader of the drug trafficking group, under Vita’s command, has invested nearly 200 million US Dollar in federal territories, with 100 million of that in the stock market.
Some time ago, a publicly traded company in California in which the drug lord had heavily invested, was suddenly accused of falsifying accounts, and it wasn’t long before it went bankrupt and collapsed, causing the stock prices to plummet.
Following investigations, it was found that the company’s president used some financial techniques, ending up in prison, but the money he made was already laundered into legality and ownership was his.
While the president clanged behind bars, his wife and son remained safe and still wealthy, capable of living a lavish, carefree life outside.
"Drug lord’s money is not easy to take."
Looking at the photo of the white president with a slicked-back hairstyle, Luo An grinned and said:
"If you want to kidnap that mother and son for money, you wouldn’t need an anti-tank missile. Once fired, the entire mansion would be reduced to rubble, leaving nothing of the mother and son.
So, which prison is this company president in now? Are there any other conditions?"
Mona quickly pulled up the internal prisoner records from the Department of Justice, replying:
"At three o’clock this afternoon, this company’s president along with a few other prisoners convicted of financial crimes will be transferred from the temporary Los Angeles prison to the state prison in California.
The entire process will be escorted by five vehicles, all guarded by court police from the Department of Justice."
"So, the target of Vita and his people is this vehicle."
Luo An took a sip from his tea cup, looked up at the clock in front of the office area, and noticed it was already 2:21 pm.
He lowered his head, carefully examined the Department of Justice’s projected route map for this afternoon’s prisoner transport vehicle, and found two suitable spots for an ambush using an anti-tank missile to blast the vehicle. He tossed his pen aside, pointed at the map, and said:
"Mona, contact the leader of the court police in charge of transporting the prisoners at the Department of Justice, have them cancel the original plan for three o’clock this afternoon, and it would be best to arrange a few decoy vehicles as well.
Also, call Winslow and Reesi, and have them immediately head to spot number 1 on the map.
You stay back at the Special Investigation Team, constantly monitor the surveillance around these two spots, and contact us immediately if anything is spotted.
Chenier, call SWAT and have them dispatch several action teams to spot number 1 and spot number 2; you and I will head to spot number 2 together.
Michelle, you stay back at the Special Investigation Team, assist Mona with monitoring surveillance.
Also, once we leave, log into the FBI’s internal network, contact the Federal Crime Information Center, Customs and Border Protection Bureau, Department of Homeland Security, LAPD, DEA, and other main law enforcement agencies to disseminate personal information on Beibetto Holge Vita."
"Understood!"
"No problem!"
Chenier, Mona, and Michelle all nodded in agreement, although Michelle was a bit puzzled by that last order.
Given that the potential points of action by Vita were already determined and preparations to capture him were underway, why still issue a nationwide alert for Beibetto Holge Vita’s personal information.
To Michelle’s confusion, Luo An chuckled and did not directly answer, but rather patted her on the shoulder, whispering:
"During an exam, not only do you need to answer the questions correctly, but the sound of the flipping pages must also be loud enough."
Watching Luo An quickly leave the Special Investigation Team, Michelle’s mind turned rapidly and suddenly understood his intention; the suspect had anti-tank missiles in hand, the louder the noise, the bigger the case, and the greater the credit.
Luo An didn’t immediately go downstairs to drive to the second location after leaving the Special Investigation Team, but first turned to take the elevator to the team leader’s office.
The leader of the Special Investigation Team only has the authority to cooperate with, contact, and exchange information with other law enforcement departments, but does not have the authority to command other law enforcement departments. Such matters still needed to be handled through coordination by the team leader.
Furthermore, Luo An couldn’t guarantee the operation would be completely successful. If there were any errors in the middle, someone needed to cover for it, so he approached the team leader Potante Byrne.
After all, as long as the investigation team below succeeds in solving the case, the team leader could receive a share of the credit; if it failed, the team leader would not be able to escape responsibility.
Sure enough, after listening to Luo An’s description of the case and hearing about the three anti-tank missiles held by the suspect, team leader Potante Byrne immediately became restless.
Potante Byrne quickly stood up and contacted the leader of the Court Police responsible for transporting prisoners at the Department of Justice, while repeatedly emphasizing to Luo An to be very careful in this operation.
Anti-tank missiles were not a trivial matter; they were used to strike tanks and armored vehicles. If a person were hit by it, being able to find any fragments would be fortunate.
"OK."
With a serious face, Luo An nodded to Potante Byrne, and then hurriedly left with Chenier to go downstairs.
The company’s president and other criminals needing imprisonment due to economic offenses were recently detained in the temporary detention prison of Los Angeles Court.
The route planned by the Court Police for transporting the prisoners was simple; leaving directly from the back door of the court, turning a few streets, and entering the freeway, departing from Los Angeles City to drive directly to the distant California Prison.
After rethinking the route, Luo An realized the best place to launch an attack was just a few streets near the back door of the court.
Traffic jams were frequent there, and it was considered quick if the Court Police could leave in half an hour. During this period, using an anti-tank missile to blow up the prisoner transport vehicle was unusually straightforward.
Luo An’s first and second planned locations were two central points of these streets.
The black SUV sped through the streets of Los Angeles like lightning, finally reaching the outskirts of the area around 2:50.
As expected, due to the traffic, the SUV couldn’t enter those few streets. Luo An and Chenier quickly left the SUV and ran toward those streets.
Upon reaching the designated spot, Luo An heard Potante Byrne’s voice from his communicator:
"Luo An, air support will need another five minutes; it’s almost here."
Having air support was good, but Luo An and Chenier weren’t in the mood to pay attention to this, as a prisoner transport van was currently stuck in the middle of the street not far away, and it was genuinely filled with prisoners in prison uniforms, not a decoy.
"Fu-k!"
Luo An muttered under his breath and quickly ran to the side of the prison van with Chenier, pulling out a golden badge to display his identity, and asked:
"What’s happening with this vehicle?"
The leading African American court police explained that after receiving the FBI’s notification, their superiors had commanded them to set off early to avoid encountering enemies, but they still ended up stuck in traffic.
Regarding the enemies possessing anti-tank missiles, the African American court police spread his hands and repeated his superior’s words to them:
"What if it’s a fake?"
"..."
Upon hearing this, Chenier’s expression turned completely stern, almost unable to suppress her anger to start cursing. Luo An squinted his eyes, held Chenier back without saying much, left the prison van, pressed the communicator, and asked:
"Winslow, Reesi, where are you now?"
"We have arrived at the designated location."
As soon as Reesi finished speaking, Winslow’s voice suddenly emerged:
"Target spotted! I see him!"
