Legendary FBI Detective
Chapter 628: The Killer's Plan and Case Details
Reesi, entering with a beaming smile and proudly shaking the laptop in her hand, exclaimed:
"I've figured out everything about this case!"
"..."
As her voice trailed off, the office area turned silent. Reesi paused for a moment, then noticed the uneasy expressions on Chenier and others' faces, which caused her to instantly drop her smile and ask in a serious tone:
"What happened?"
"Nothing much, just like you, we also discovered the situation behind this case."
Luo An smiled wryly, casually taking the laptop from Reesi's hands, and asked:
"What did you find?"
"..."
After reviewing the information found by Mona and Michelle, Reesi grimaced awkwardly and said in a low voice:
"Sorry, I didn't find anything about this Sarls, I just figured out the reason why the black man Joan orchestrated this case."
As she spoke, Reesi helped Luo An open the laptop, explaining:
"This camera was originally used by Hasim to record his game plays with some women, but it accidentally recorded this video.
The content on the video wasn't extensive, but from their conversation, it's not hard to deduce the entire case's architect was the black man Joan."
Indeed, as the video showed and Hasim described, Joan handed a small box, which had a piece of paper with Luo An's name on it, to a 50-year-old black man named Elaine.
"The entire case is actually a conspiracy."
While the video played, Reesi stood aside and explained carefully:
"Due to his sister being killed and the previous debate incident, Adam Avalos hated the designer Carlton deeply, but initially, he only resorted to verbal abuse and littering, without harboring excessive thoughts.
The black man Joan noticed this, approached Adam, and enticed him into considering bombing as a form of revenge, then introduced Adam to Elaine who had just been released from prison.
Joan's actual motive was to conceal his real purpose: to kill Luo An.
His plan wasn't complicated, entice Adam to harbor murderous intentions, let Elaine secure funds to make the bomb, and then kill Carlton in the explosion.
At the explosion site, he deliberately left a piece of paper with Luo An's name, leading Luo An to take over the investigation of this case.
With Luo An's skills, it wouldn't take long to trace it back to Hasim Ried and Elaine Ried.
Then, Joan had already rigged both their residences with numerous remote-controlled bombs, waiting for Luo An and his team to enter the building to make arrests, then he would detonate the bombs, leaving no one intact.
Even after the investigation, the forensic team would find that the bombs at the scene were remote-controlled, but still couldn't trace them back to Joan.
As Joan never appeared in the investigation, the findings from the 13th investigation team indicated that it was merely a common hate-driven murder.
Since the involved parties were all dead, and the bomb maker was Elaine, the only logical explanation the FBI could come to was that Elaine chose to detonate the bombs to kill himself during arrest."
"Fu-k!"
Listening to Reesi's narration, Chenier, who had almost entered the building that day, suddenly broke out in a cold sweat and said:
"Luckily, Luo An detected something wrong in advance, not only bringing a signal jammer but we also didn't enter that building yesterday."
"That's right."
Winslow, swallowing nervously beside them and with a complex expression, added:
"The forensic report showed that those remote-controlled bombs could have certainly collapsed the building.
Had they exploded, not only would we and the SWAT team not have been able to escape, but the nearby residents would likely have suffered extensive casualties as well!"
Chenier, Reesi, and Winslow looked at each other, all seeing the fear and relief in each other's eyes.
"Sorry, I have a question."
Standing aside, Michelle frowned thoughtfully, then raised her hand and asked:
"Is Elaine an accomplice of Joan?
As the bomb maker, he must have known Joan intended to destroy a building, and he was inside the building at the time; he wouldn't have survived the explosion!"
Reesi shook her head and answered:
"Elaine is not Joan's accomplice; he too seeks revenge."
Michelle was somewhat puzzled:
"Revenge? The task force number thirteen?
When he was sent to prison, we might have still been in kindergarten, or even just born."
"It's not about us specifically."
Reesi was about to speak when Luo An suddenly closed the file and stood up, saying coldly:
"He seeks revenge on another identity of ours, the FBI."
"That's right."
Reesi looked at Luo An admiringly, nodded, and explained:
"It was an FBI task force that sent Elaine to prison.
Those involved in the task force are now either dead or retired, but over thirty years in prison have accumulated an immeasurable hatred in Elaine's heart. Thus, Elaine has turned his sights on us, because we are also the FBI. He doesn't care about his own death.
As for that big-nosed Hasim, he may look shrewd, but he knows nothing. Elaine and Joan didn't care about him and used him just as a human tool."
"Dammit..."
After listening to Reesi's explanation, Chenier cursed under her breath. Beside her, Mona clenched her fists, her breathing rough. After a long contemplation, she took a deep breath to suppress the negative emotions and looked up at Luo An, asking:
"This case is now clear. The explosion was a cover created by Joan using Adam's hatred. Joan's real target was to kill Luo An.
And Joan was also a tool. The person behind this is Sarls, and her goal is to avenge her father.
Luo An, what do we do next?"
Hearing Mona's question, Reesi, Chenier, Winslow, and Michelle all turned their gazes to Luo An, their faces serious, all wanting to know what Luo An planned to do next.
Generous and forgiving, as if nothing had happened, was not Luo An's style.
Everyone in Task Force Thirteen knew that Luo An was not broad-minded... well, he liked an eye for an eye, was very cautious, and hated being targeted by danger.
"Any issues, ask the supervisor."
Unlike Chenier and others' serious faces, Luo An's lips curved into a slight smile. He patted Reesi on the shoulder, gave Mona a reassuring look, and then said:
"There is still one thing we have not clarified, and that is whether Adam Avalos is alive or dead.
Chenier, Reesi, this task is yours, interrogate Joan; he must know something.
Michelle, help me organize the files for this case, I need to go see Vireness."
"OK!"
Everyone nodded in agreement, and moments later Luo An left the Task Force Thirteen's office area and headed to Vireness's office.
"That's roughly the situation."
In the chair across the office desk, after Luo An briefly outlined the case, Vireness looked at the folder in her hand and remained silent.
After a long silence, Vireness looked up at Luo An and said in a stern voice:
"The records show that Sarls mainly operates in America and Africa.
Luo An, do you plan to handle this yourself, or do you need CIA's assistance?"
Luo An raised his eyebrows and asked:
"Can I handle it myself? I remember the FBI's jurisdiction is within the federal boundaries."
"Mostly, that's the case, but there are always exceptions."
Vireness gave Luo An a meaningful look:
"As you know, I mentioned before, our FBI has many specialized task forces."
Just as Luo An was about to speak, there was a knock on the office door, and a female agent walked in, her expression somewhat strange:
"Group Leader Luo An, the IRS is looking for you."
