Level Eater
Chapter 197
Today, Tatsuro decided to rest here, so he used the [Infinite Item Field] to disassemble and combine parts, assembling a house like a puzzle.
Fortunately, this place was spacious.
Therefore, with plenty of room to create spaces, he started from the living room as a base, adjacent to the bathroom, and a workshop for Leah on the opposite side. He added two bedrooms on the second floor - one for Tatsuro and Ai, and another for Leah. Though there were no walls or ceilings to make it easier for Cardina to keep watch, he set up comfortable spaces with chairs around the perimeter.
Finally, he attached elevators on both sides, and the house was complete.
He then summoned the house from the [Infinite Item Field] and placed it in the center of this wide space.
"Well. It might sound self-congratulatory, but it's a good house." (Tatsuro)
"Right. In the original world, how much would a house like this cost?" (Ai)
"Who knows." (Tatsuro)
As Tatsuro and Ai were looking at the house's exterior, Leah called out briefly and then rushed into her workshop.
Her back view suggested she was desperate to bring the ideas in her head to life as soon as possible.
"Well, let's take a break for now. We've been walking non-stop, and we also moved quite a bit during the previous battle." (Tatsuro)
"I wonder if Leah should rest too?" (Ai)
"I will go check on her, so it's fine." (Nana)
"Really? Then, please do, Nana." (Ai)
"Yes, I will!" (Nana)
After being patted on the head by Ai, which made her cheeks relax, she then looked intently at Tatsuro.
So Tatsuro gently stroked Nana's head while supplying her with magical power, and she cheerfully rushed into Leah's workshop.
"Looks like things are fine over there. Shall we enter the house?" (Tatsuro)
"Yes!" (Ai)
They then resupplied magical power to Cardina and the others, attached recognition-blocking triangular flags so they wouldn't be visible from outside, and entered the first-floor living room.
Since Cardina's detection magic becomes less efficient in enclosed spaces, she flew to the outside space prepared for her. Jeanne went to guard the front, and Athena moved to guard the back.
Now completely alone, Tatsuro first sat in the living room chair, and Ai sat facing him on his lap.
"Hehe. Tatsuro, Tatsuro♪" (Ai)
While embracing her waist as she covered his face with kisses, repeatedly calling his name, he also kissed her back.
As they continued to be affectionately close without getting tired, suddenly one of their stomachs growled.
Having been so intimately pressed together and focused on kissing that they couldn't tell whose stomach it was, they looked at each other and laughed before exchanging one more deep kiss and then starting to cook.
"First, I'll cook rice, grill some meat, and cut vegetables and fruits." (Tatsuro)
"Today, I want the one that tastes like a lemon. I love eating it with honey!" (Ai)
"Then, let's do that today." (Tatsuro)
Now they had rice, vegetables, and fruits in such abundant quantity and variety that they could live in this dungeon for decades.
From the [Infinite Item Field], he took out rice, dragon meat, honey, vegetables, and fruits and began preparing a simple meal.
Using the new kitchen and time manipulation within the [Infinite Item Field], he cooked the rice, washed and cut vegetables and fruits, and placed them on plates.
Finally, with practiced hands, he grilled the meat, and it was done.
First, they prepared a tray with food for Leah, who was still working hard.
Since her workshop was located to the left of the current living room, they knocked and entered after hearing a response.
"I made food, so eat it whenever you're free." (Tatsuro)
"Oh. Come to think of it, has that much time passed? I'm sorry, I forgot." (Leah)
"It's fine, just continue as you are. Eat at your own timing." (Tatsuro)
Saying this and stopping Leah from interrupting her current work, they placed the meal on a nearby table.
"Thank you." (Leah)
"So, how many of these weapons have you made?" (Tatsuro)
"Those dumpling-like things lying beside me are them?" (Ai)
"Yes. They're prototypes, but I think they'll work. I'll test them later, so I'll show you then." (Leah)
"Got it. Call us without hesitation when you do. We're also curious about what they're like. And Nana, good work." (Tatsuro)
"Yes, I will!" (Leah)
After delivering the meal, they sat at the living room table and ate.
As usual, they fed each other and stayed close, taking even more time than typical.
Later, Leah requested additional return stones, and when they gave her ten thousand (since they had more than enough), she was wide-eyed.
Sometime later, while Tatsuro and Ai were playing cards that he had casually created, Nana and Leah opened the door and entered the living room.
"Would you like to come see the test operation?" (Leah)
"It's ready? Of course, I'll watch." (Tatsuro)
"Me too!" (Ai)
Tatsuro, Ai, Nana, and Leah went outside and faced a direction where no one was present.
To make things clearer, Tatsuro used earth magic to create a dirt dummy, which he placed a bit away.
"First, I'll use this simulating explosion magic. The power is not comparable to Tatsuro's magic, but it should make quite a sound, so please be careful." (Leah)
"Understood." (Tatsuro)
"Okay!" (Ai)
"Yes, I will!" (Nana)
Tatsuro and Ai prepared magical and Ki shields for emergency defense and plugged their ears with their fingers.
Leah took out an object about 15 cm long, shaped like an oval rugby ball from her [Item Box], hooked the 9-pin with her index finger and pulled it out, then threw the main body toward the dirt dummy.
Spinning and drawing an accurate trajectory, it landed and caused a small explosion, blowing off the top section of the dummy.
"It's just like a grenade. Can you increase its power?" (Tatsuro)
"Yes. Right now, I need to increase its mass." (Leah)
"You have other types besides explosion magic?" (Tatsuro)
"Yes. Next, I'll try fire magic." (Leah)
Tatsuro restored the target with earth magic and gave Leah an OK sign.
Leah took out something from her [Item Box] with "fire" written on it, similar in size and shape to the previous one. After pulling out the 9-pin, she threw it at the dirt dummy.
It landed on the top section of the dummy and suddenly burst into flames.
"Wow, the dirt dummy became a fire dummy!" (Ai)
"Who told you to... oh, it's gone." (Tatsuro)
The fire burned for about five seconds before naturally extinguishing due to magical depletion, but it had thoroughly scorched the dirt.
"At that size, the burning time would be about like that." (Leah)
"If we make it bigger, the burning time will increase too, right?" (Tatsuro)
"Yes. More precisely, we might be able to adjust the burning time based on size. Now, could you set the target further away?" (Leah)
"Further away? Understood. ... Is this okay?" (Tatsuro)
"Yes, perfect." (Leah)
He moved the dirt dummy that was about five meters away to about ten meters away.
Then she took out something marked "water" and a large eyepatch-like object woven with iron wire.
Different from an eyepatch, it had a large eye-covering section, with a hook attached and a long cord with a ring-like loop at one end where a finger could fit.
Leah hooked the 9-pin of the water magic projectile onto the hook, placed it on the surface, held both ends of the cord with her right hand, passed her index finger through the ring, and trapped the cordless end between her ring and pinky fingers.
"A sling?" (Tatsuro)
"Yes. It's primitive, and aiming is difficult without practice, but it can be quickly prepared and thrown far." (Leah)
While saying this to Tatsuro's words, she began spinning the projectile-laden cord in her hand.
Carefully aiming at the distant target and swinging back like throwing a ball, she released the cord trapped between her ring and pinky fingers. The 9-pin hooked to the hook was pulled out, launching the projectile even stronger than a normal throw.
It hit the dirt dummy, wetting the first section's belly area.
"I was aiming for the head, but it went off course. It's quite difficult." (Leah)
"No, no. Just hitting it is amazing. Let me try." (Tatsuro)
Tatsuro received the sling projectile and created a dirt clump with earth magic, attempting to throw it like Leah. However, while it flew forward, it went in a completely unrelated direction from the dirt dummy.
"Me too, me too!" (Ai)
"Ai has throwing skills, so she might hit in one try." (Tatsuro)
"Then this is the stone." (Leah)
"Thanks." (Ai)
Ai took the dirt clump and tried to imitate the technique.
As Tatsuro watched, wondering whether clumsiness or skill would prevail, the dirt clump flew precisely and blew off the dummy's head.
"The power is ridiculous. It's just a randomly created dirt clump." (Leah)
"If Ai just throws a random stone from around here, she'd easily take it down." (Tatsuro)
"Yay!" (Ai)
They then tried attaching the sling to a staff and hitting targets even further away with various projectiles before finally bringing out the last prototype weapon.
"This is the one I most wanted to test." (Leah)
"What... is that?" (Tatsuro)
Leah proudly brought out a cylindrical object about 30 cm in diameter with a hollow center.
It even had a trigger, looking just like a rocket launcher.
Having used such primitive throwing devices until now, it took them a while to understand what it was.
"Um, can you shoot with that?" (Tatsuro)
"Yes. After considering the best possible projectile, this is what I came up with. Though I haven't actually tried it yet, it worked fine with the [All-Seeing Eye]." (Leah)
"Wow..." (Ai)
"Could you set up a larger target even further away?" (Leah)
"Oh, okay." (Tatsuro)
Following her instructions, Tatsuro created a giant earth figure resembling the defeated giant, placing it near the water wall.
With Tatsuro, Ai, and Nana watching, Leah took out a projectile looking like a rugby ball with a long cylindrical rod attached.
After pulling out the 9-pin from the rod section and inserting it into the cylinder, she placed the cylinder on her right shoulder, aimed, and put her index finger on the trigger.
"Here we go! Fire!!" (Leah)
After announcing the launch, she pulled the trigger.
Synchronized with this, a small hammer inside the cylinder struck the end of the inserted rod.
Wind magic then emerged from the rod section, creating a strong wind that pushed out the rugby ball-shaped end, which flew straight along the tube.
It accelerated and raced towards the earth figure Tatsuro had created.
It landed beautifully, creating a loud noise and explosively blowing off the giant earth figure's head and shoulders.
"Hey, this is seriously like a rocket launcher." (Tatsuro)
"I don't know what a 'rocket launcher' is, but this should work even against targets with decent durability." (Leah)
"Whoa. You've created quite an aggressive weapon." (Tatsuro)
"But father's magic is still more powerful!" (Nana)
Nana, while thinking it was somewhat cool inside, proudly emphasized that Tatsuro was still more amazing.
Tatsuro gently stroked her head, smiling at her childlike reaction, which Ai and Leah also watched fondly.
"Well, it can't be compared to real magic. Its power and type are limited to predefined states." (Leah)
"To make it more powerful, you'd need to make it larger. It might not be as good as magic, but it seems it could handle a boss in a low-level dungeon." (Tatsuro)
"Well, making this was so complex that it could only be used in crucial moments." (Leah)
"Really? I thought it would be fun if you could rapid-fire." (Tatsuro)
"You can't just rapid-fire something like that..." (Leah)
And so, Leah added long-range attack capabilities to their arsenal.
