CHAPTER 36: PURSUING BROWN

Max stood in his place, looking past the horde of battles at the young master of Shamal Clan. His eyes narrowed, as past memories flowed in his mind.

He clearly remembered how much the original Max suffered because of this guy. Worst of all, Max knew he wouldn’t even remember him.

"Ah! I’ll let your soul rest in peace, buddy, but that requires a sacrifice. I’ll give you that!"

With a wave of his hand, a dark blade materialized in his right hand, as he dashed towards him. His eyes were so focused and determined that even he would have been surprised if he had seen them.

However, he wasn’t in the right mind to notice all of that.

He just ran while dodging the attacks of other Shamal Clan people. The earth quaked under their overwhelming might, as they were the peak hunters of Bronze Rank.

All of a sudden, Max jumped, sensing danger coming at him, and saw his opponent in mid-air. It was the bald guy, looking at him with a deathly glare.

"Get the fuck off!" Max muttered, brandishing his sword. "I honestly don’t care what happens to you all, but he needs to die."

"Am I supposed to be threatened by the likes of you?" the bald man snorted and attacked Max with his bare fists.

Max’s blood ran cold as he noticed that the bald man was at Level 9. But it didn’t matter since he would fulfill his goal at any cost.

So, he kicked the ground and reached his opponent in an instant, taking him by surprise.

But he was also prepared as he brought down his heavy fists at him.

Max’s instinct told him to move back, to dodge, but he just slipped sideways with his incredible agility and pushed his blade to perform an upward slash from underneath him.

His opponent saw through his thoughts and smirked. He also formulated a plan as he brought his right forearm upward to defend against Max’s attack.

His left hand’s knuckles cracked as he clenched them tightly. He was determined to punch a hole in Max’s chest as he attempted to punch at him.

Sadly, he was mistaken if he thought he could defend against Max’s attack using just his forearms.

"Phasing!" Max muttered, as the dark blade rippled in the space and easily passed through the bald man’s arms before materialising again.

Time seemed to slow down.

His eyes widened in shock and terror before he was already too late. Gritting his teeth, he increased the speed of his punch, hoping it would land before Max’s attack came down.

Splash

Max’s blade drew a curve, slitting his throat deeply as blood splattered from the wound. His opponent could only give him a last hateful look before his body slumped to his side.

Because of that, his strike also missed, giving Max enough time to back away.

[You have slain a Level 9, Bronze Rank Human. Gained 12 EXP]

Max heaved a sigh before focusing his attention back towards Brown, who was also looking at him from the distance. His eyes showed the shock he felt from Max’s action.

Clearly, he hadn’t expected Max to be strong enough to kill a Level 9, Bronze Rank so quickly. Max saw his mouth moving as he called upon support while trying to run away.

"No, you aren’t getting away," Max’s heart was filled with ruthlessness, as he even forgot that he had just killed a human being.

He launched himself forward while brandishing his sword to clear away the blood.

Just when he was getting closer to Brown, two young men blocked his path. He frowned, ready to get rid of them quickly, but he was in for a surprise.

A huge hammer landed between them, raising dust and cracking the ground below. There stood the petite yet powerful red-headed girl.

"Leave them to me!" Stelle said, grinning widely. There were also hints of blood on her clothes. "Just don’t let him get away."

"Thanks!" Max smiled at her and got past the two teenagers. They wanted to stop him, but how could they get past the hammer machine Stelle?

While running towards the small hill where Brown had run off to, Max gave a side glance at their small battlefield, and that brought a smile to his face.

Amazon Warriors weren’t to be trifled with, and because of the short time they rested, they were ready to slaughter everyone—and they were doing that.

Even though the Shamal Clan had an advantage in numbers and even had a Silver Rank Hunter with them, they were getting pushed and slaughtered like pigs.

And whatever damage they did to the Amazonians, Charlotte was there to heal them quickly.

His gaze shifted slightly in the distance where Athena was fighting the Silver Rank Hunter. He sucked in a cold breath, seeing that they were in a stalemate.

’Damnation! They are as powerful as ever,’ Max thought, impressed by their strength. ’They could have even defeated the baron with sheer strength alone... probably.’

He tried to ignore the blood and gore by thinking of those things. While he had seen and written worse things, this was the first time he had seen it so closely in real life.

As for him killing someone, he was surprised that he didn’t feel much from it. It wasn’t that he wasn’t an emotional man, but he just knew that this was how this world worked.

If they were on the losing side, Brown would have done much worse, like enslaving them. Then, they would have had to endure years of humiliation and torture.

The Labyrinth brought opportunities and danger with it. But humans were always one of their own greatest enemies.

Shaking his head, Max sped up even more and soon caught up with Brown, who was probably using an agility potion as his speed was almost matching his.

"How much will you run, Bastard!?" Max smirked, continuing his pursuit while running on the bone dust.

Soon, the potion effects wore off and Max caught up with Brown.
