CHAPTER 37: REVENGE IS SWEET

When the potion effects died down, Brown’s speed decreased, throwing off his balance as he stumbled forward. White bone dust wrapped around his body, mixing with his hair, clothes, and everywhere.

Max also stopped running and simply walked towards him, slowly one step at a time. His eyes were cold and filled with ruthlessness, looking directly at Brown.

He tried to stand up, but once again stumbled. Brown looked back at Max, especially into his eyes. How could he not recognise those murderous eyes?

Fear gripped his heart as he tried to move forward towards the entrance. If only he reached there in time, he could finally escape from here.

’I can use my father’s Escape Talisman! Just you wait, Bastard! I will hunt you down even if you’re at the end of the world!’ Brown gritted his teeth and tried to run again.

However, a small pebble hit his knee joint, throwing off his balance as he once again fell face first. He panted, terror gripping his heart and mind.

Just then, he sensed a presence behind him and turned around, only to see a demon incarnate looking down at him.

He trembled and said, his voice stuttering, "My father is almost Platinum Rank! He will kill you if you dare even touch me!"

Max ignored his ramblings and crouched near him, his blade resting on Brown’s neck as he asked, "Do you remember me?"

"Like hell I do! Why would I remember a nobody like you?" Brown said, still thinking of ways to get out.

"Heh! I thought so," Max chuckled dangerously and said. "Two years ago, you visited the Royal Stable along with your father. Your spoiled ass wanted to ride them without knowing shit!"

He pressed the blade more when he noticed that Brown was about to say something. Looking down at him, Max spoke in low threatening voice, "Open your mouth again and I’ll shove this blade in your ass."

Brown instantly fell silent and began hoping in his heart that someone would come from the battlefield to save him, especially his uncle.

"Anyway, you tried riding one of the King’s horses and obviously it threw you off and began to rampage in the stable. The horse almost killed me back then."

Max smiled and said, "I bet you’re thinking that it’s not your fault, but it is. Because after that you ordered your retainer to kill that horse and two more horses who had dared to attack you."

He took a deep breath to calm himself and said, "One of them was my favourite. He was the only friend I had and you killed him. That day, I lost my one and only friend, was almost killed, and then I was blamed for killing the Royal steed."

He looked into Brown’s eyes and muttered, "My life turned into hell because of your spoiled ass, and I have been looking for my revenge ever since then."

It was a lie, but Max didn’t care. The memories of the past were influencing his mind, and he only wanted Brown’s blood. Only that would satisfy the soul of the old Max.

"I-I can explain..." Brown tried to explain when he noticed that Max was really looking for revenge.

"You’re really lucky that I’m not sadistic in nature; otherwise, you would be begging for death," Max scoffed, and before Brown could say anything more, slashed his head off his torso.

His head dropped on the ground and rolled a few times before coming to a stop. His eyes were still looking at Max with disbelief and hatred.

[You have slain a Level 8, Bronze Rank Human. Gained 6 EXP]

Max sighed, dropping on his butt as he realised what he had done. However, he didn’t regret it and would do the same thing if he were given another chance.

Even if he forgot what Brown had done somehow, Max knew that he would target him again and again. Not to mention, he would pressure the Sinclair Clan too.

[Good job! I expected a lot of drama in your first human kill, but you’re faring way better. Don’t think too much about it because you will need to kill even more if you want to reach the top.]

"I know," Max gave one last look at Brown and ran back towards Stelle and the others.

Soon, he reached them and found that the battle had already ended with an overwhelming victory for the Amazon Warriors. Not a single one of them had died, and not a single one of the Shamal Clan survived.

Many of them were injured greatly, especially Athena who had somehow managed to kill the Silver Rank Hunter. It just spoke of her might.

Max ignored looking at the corpses and went towards Stelle, as Charlotte was busy healing others. The red-headed brat was sitting on her own hammer and humming something.

"How did it go?" Max asked.

Stelle’s head spun towards him as she smiled and asked, "Awesome! Did you manage to kill that bastard?"

Saying that, she also made her hammer bigger so that Max could also sit there, which he did.

"Yes, he couldn’t be more dead," Max said. "Now, we gotta prepare for their revenge."

"Meh! It’s fine! We were also tired of them. If they want to come at me, they can try their best," Stelle shrugged her shoulders, not caring one bit about the Shamal Clan.

"His father is trying to ascend to the Platinum Rank," Max muttered in a somber tone. "If he’s successful, we are cooked!"

"No, you’re not!"

Max turned around upon hearing the hoarse voice, only to find Athena standing there. He could still see some of her fresh wounds, but she didn’t seem to care about them.

She just smiled at them and said, "You have helped us, and we Amazonians never forget who helped us. If they ever target you, just contact me and the Amazonians will stand with you."

Max raised an eyebrow, not expecting that. He thought, ’That’s actually good news. I can escape to the Amazonians if things get serious!’

He nodded and said, "I won’t stand on ceremony then. In future, you guys just may have to protect me."

"Haha! Sure! Just use this to contact me," Athena laughed and gave a wooden stone to him.

’How do these work again?’
