CHAPTER 82: THE HISTORY

Charlotte was as attentive as Max remembered her to be, and that showed through her actions.

He had asked her to teach him just once and she prepared everything for it.

He smiled and said, "Thanks for everything."

"It’s nothing," Charlotte looked down at the tablet she brought just to reach him.

A lot of it’s functions wouldn’t work like calls, browsing internet or even seeing time because of the Labyrinth.

But basic functions were still available, especially since the tablet Charlotte brought was special with Rune Formations.

"We will start with the basics," Charlotte began her explanation. "Ever since the start of the Fifth Epoch, there has been many cultural, religious and even linguistics wars. Due to these, there has never been a proper language for everyone."

Max listened to everything with interest, as he was really curious about the history of this world. He wanted to research about it, but didn’t get the time to do so.

Still, he was the one who made this world and had left many things vague or flat ignored.

It worked in the novel, but this was a real work and things were real too. Those holes were filled with real, logical history, something he had never planned.

So, he was way too curious to see how it had turned out. After all, it was every author’s dream to see the world they made come out alive.

That was why they worked so hard in world building.

’Hehe, suck my dick, losers. I got my world turn real.’

[You want me to throw you in your other works?]

’I am happy here, thank you.’

"There’s a long history on this filled with way too many wars and extermination of many cultures and languages. I am very interested in it so I am studying it too so if you want I can teach you later."

"Thank you. It’s my honour to learn from you," Max instantly agreed.

"Haha, sure, I’ll remember this," Charlotte giggled softly before she resumed her explanation.

"Anyway, it all changed six hundred years ago when the six Saint Lands rose in power. They fought and brought peace to the cursed world, forbidding useless wars. They united the wastelands and spread out cultures to turn into one."

She sighed.

"But there were bound to be differences as all five Saint Lands were established with different ideals. Still, all of them were tired of wars so they simply divided the world into five regions while establishing a few organisations and other stuff to govern the newborn hegemony. So, they also established an Imperial Clan."

Max nodded, as he atleast knew that. It was just basic history which wasn’t really needed but he had made it nonetheless.

It was fun writing history of a world.

"The Saint Lands then distanced themselves from the mortal world and focused solely on protecting the peace of the world and from the other Empires. They rarely show themselves to the real world, as even their selections are done in mysterious ways."

’Bullshit! Well, they might have been like that in past but now they’re just trash egoistic God complex fuckers. Peace? Heh! What a joke!’

Max wanted to scoff at the blatant propaganda the Empire had made for the Saint Lands. The legends about their mythical feets helped it a lot too.

He stared at Charlotte and asked, "What do you think of them? Or rather all this information?"

"Hmm? Of course, majority of it is just half lies half propaganda. Past might have been different but the current world is at anything but peace," Charlotte sighed. "But it’s better if you don’t talk anything bad about them."

Her gaze turned cold as she continued, "They have eyes and ears everywhere. The Labyrinth is probably the only place where their influence is low but it’s still better to be cautious."

"That’s the first time you showed such an aggressive look, any particular reason?" Max frowned and asked.

"I can’t say much but just know my mother’s death was related to them," Charlotte gripped her tablet tightly, making it groan under pressure.

Then, she released it and returned to normal.

"Whatever it is, just know that it’s best for us if we don’t talk badly about them, not unless you’re willing to make them your enemy. You just need to remember that majority of the information on the Saint Lands is just propaganda, nothing else."

"I will," Max muttered, feeling anger towards himself.

This was yet again a point he had never bothered to explain as it wasn’t that important. He had just written than her mother died due to some diseases, nothing else.

Of course, the world would fill the holes and it would do so while having his mentality and he could imagine himself bringing such plot to make things more interesting.

Now, he felt angry towards himself for not writing it properly. Perhaps, he might have given her mother a better ending instead of having the world fill the holes.

"We got off the topic, so let’s get back to our languages. So, after the five Saint Lands established the Empire and it’s basic structure, they left everything else to the Imperial Clan."

She pointed at the tablet showing a dark panther trying to devour a drop of crimson flame. It had a beautiful pair of abyss wings sprouting on its back, with the crimson flames affecting them.

It was the symbol of Selero Empire and also the Imperial Clan.

"Batista Selero, the first Emperor of the Selero Empire, found out that the many states that later became Kingdoms had different cultures, languages, etc. He was sure that it would lead to more wars as the differences were too much."

Max nodded in understanding, a little impressed by the first Emperor. Whenever there were differences in human societies, there were bound to be conflicts, especially in a world like this where Labyrinth forced people to kill monsters and humans alike.

The Emperor had found the root problem for the wars.

"Because of this, he tried to make things common accross the Empire as much as possible. The four Major Academies were also established so that everyone competes in the Empire and all. Yeah, you understand this."

It seemed there were things that could tire out even someone like Charlotte.

"Of course, there was the problem of communication so the Emperor declared Feysac as the official Language of the Empire. His order was heavily criticised with many factions and due to his other decisions also, there was almost a civil war once again."

’These guys really like to go to wars for literally no reason. What the hell?’ Max was flabbergasted even though he had read history of Earth too.

Humans were really Weird when it came to fighting wars for nonsensical reasons. They would bring out old matters, bringing sympathy from the citizens and rile them up.

Of course, the other side would then bring up and even older matter, making the first party to bring out an even older matter.

At one point, the reason wouldn’t be even clear and the war would still be fought.

Things were slightly different in this world due to the presence of overwhelming force, but it was still pretty much the same.

"It was then the Saint Lands spoke up once again. They told how Feysac was actually the language of their leader’s homeland, the same leader who had brought the initial Saint Land together to bring peace to the world."

Max chuckled softly and said, "And it worked, didn’t it?"

"Yes, people felt that it was the least they could do to such a legendary person. Though, whether the decision was made because of respect alone or through force isn’t clear."

"Hmm, did the other Empires did the same?" Max asked, curious.

"Probably. Information about neighbouring Empires is rare, or should I say the correct information about them is pretty rare. They have their propaganda and it’s even stronger in other Empires because they can’t monitor the inside of the other Empires."

"It also means the Selero Empire can tell the ’truth’ about those Empires to it’s citizens," Max smiled.

"Yes, that’s exactly it," Charlotte smiled and changed the picture on the tablet.

It now showed a variety of symbols which Max identified as the letters of Feysac Language. He now knew atleast that much.

"It has been a long time since the announcement of Feysac being the official language so it’s pretty much grounded in every part of the Selero Empire by now, so it’s best if you start by learning this."

Charlotte paused as her ears turned slightly red. She hesitated for a second before saying, "You’re not bored, right? I just thought it’s better to know the history of something we’re going to learn."

"I liked it a lot as I’m also a fellow history enthusiastic," Max grinned. "Beside, if the teacher is someone as kind and beautiful as you, then I’m willing to even learn social science."

"You hate it?"

"Absolutely!"

Charlotte laughed at that and said, "Fine! Then let’s start with the letters. There are a total of 108 letters in Feysac language."
