Chapter 112: Li Daniu’s rage
.
Unlike Arena N.8, where in a few minutes two battles had already ended with the first two defeated, in the other arenas the first fights were still ongoing.
Being a match between first and second stage cultivators, the time limit given for the match was 10 minutes.
Which was reasonable, since in that amount of time a good part of their energy would be used, and similarly, most of their strategies and attacks would be expended, leaving little left.
Therefore, most battles ended within this time frame, and in the rare case that one dragged on too long, the examiner would give a verdict.
Usually, it was easy to see who was more injured, and victory would be declared.
But if the stalemate left neither side with a clear win or loss, the match would be considered a draw, and both sides would be sent back to rest before continuing.
This didn’t happen very often, but it could happen that one in ten battles would end in a situation like this.
And at that moment in Arena N.3, this was exactly what was happening.
It was still only the first fight there, and from the very beginning of the match, both sides had been exchanging blow after blow, never managing to land a definitive strike on the other.
It was clear that their skill levels were equal, and from what could be perceived from their energy fluctuations, their cultivation levels were also on the same level.
The only thing that could make a difference now was the individual skill of each, or a possible hidden card.
The sound of another clash resounded as both sides collided, pushing each other back once more.
They were both second year students, and it just so happened that they were also from the same class.
One of them had long black hair tied back and an average height, while the other had short red hair and a slightly taller build.
Both were panting as they stared at each other with burning eyes, full of battle intent.
It was clear that both were tired,
But despite this, neither of the two had any intention of stepping back.
" I heard you got knocked out by a first stage student, and for a moment I started thinking you had become weak, but it seems I was wrong," said the student with red hair, a mocking expression on his face.
The little incident that happened during the practical test of the end of semester exam had already spread throughout the academy, and it was discovered soon enough that there had been injuries, though not many.
But everyone was shocked when they heard that Li Daniu, one of the most talented second year students, had ended up getting hurt during that incident, failing the practical test as a result.
His results in the theory test had been good, but because he had missed points in the practical, his total score fell below average, failing him.
This was a heavy blow for him, and when he realized it, he nearly went mad with rage.
He knew he still had a chance to make up the exam, but the very fact that someone of his caliber had ended up in such a situation was a deep stain on his reputation, striking directly at his pride.
He blamed Zhu Rong and Mu Qinglan entirely for it, but knowing he couldn’t make a move against the latter, he decided to take care of Zhu Rong.
Unfortunately for him, he never really got the chance, since in the past two months that person had barely been around after classes, and whenever he tried to follow him, he lost track of him every time.
Once he had caught sight of him for a brief moment while he was meeting with an elf girl, terror gripped him as if a beast had set its eyes on him.
He almost fainted on the spot, and when he finally recovered, he found the lower part of his body slightly wet, not from sweat though.
He wondered what it had been but didn’t dare continue, deciding instead to wait for the right moment to attack.
He didn’t dare ask his cousin for help, knowing it would only make things worse.
He had known him since he was little and knew how despicable that person could be.
He was certain that he was already very angry at him for what happened during the competition, and if he had gone to him asking for help, it was likely he would have been beaten and ended up in the hospital once again.
He could only count on his own strength for this matter, and it really was his only option to fix his mistake.
His cousin may not have made any moves against him, but there was no need for him to; it was clear he was unhappy about his situation.
After all, Li Daniu knew how much he hated Zhu Rong, so hearing that what had happened was partly caused by him would certainly make him angry.
He knew that if he wanted to continue living without worries at the academy, he had to do something.
That said he knew there were less than sixty seconds left, and he realized that was probably exactly what the other side wanted.
"No way I’m letting this slide," he gritted his teeth as he concentrated all his spiritual energy from his dantian into his hands, and with a crazy expression pressed the palms of both hands together, letting out a sound.
The boy with red hair, seeing this, didn’t immediately understand what the other was doing, but then felt the ground beneath him tremble, and before he could move, he was surrounded by four pillars of earth, all three meters tall.
"You want to try to trap me? In your dreams," he said, releasing a strong fire elemental QI ready to discharge outward as a burst of energy. But before he could continue, the pillars seemed to bend as if they were made not of stone but of rubber.
They, like tentacles, moved their upper extremities forward and then down, pointing straight at the boy, who felt a trace of panic and released his energy.
At the same time, the pillars moved downward, moving toward their target.
Soon another explosion resounded, this time more powerful, sending debris flying in all directions at high speed, but as they reached the edge of the arena, they were stopped by an air barrier that slowed their fall, forcing them to land on the ground.
This was done by the judge to protect the others, and having done so, he looked toward the impact point with a calm expression, as if he already knew what had happened behind the dust cloud that had formed.
Even Li Daniu, at the right edge of the field, watched the scene while panting heavily, clearly at his limit.
The dust slowly settled, and soon everything was visible.
Some gasps echoed as everyone clearly saw the figure of the boy with red hair collapsed on the ground, bruises all over.
It was clear he had lost.
