.
In the open area behind the mountain residence, which had by now become Zhu Rong and the others’ garden, the space distorted, and soon two figures appeared.
They were, of course, Zhu Rong and Ye Ning.
As soon as they arrived, Ye Ning’s eyes darted around, admiring this new place with curious glances.
From the distant view, she could tell this place was a high plateau of some sort.
The sky above was clear, the land below rich with life, vibrant and fresh, the gentle breeze carrying the scent of wildflowers and the faint sound of rustling leaves.
The moment she arrived, she immediately noticed the spiritual energy density, far higher than outside, several times over, something that surprised her a little.
A single breath, and she already felt her cultivation base tremble, as if preparing to rise, even if only by an almost negligible amount.
That being said, her surprise didn’t last long.
She caught a figure in the corner of her eye, and her gaze soon settled on the one standing not far from them, looking at her with a smile.
She was small, nearly the same height as her, wearing a simple yet elegant white robe that flowed gently around her, with soft blond hair, sparkling emerald-colored eyes, and a pair of pointed ears similar to her own.
The instant Ye Ning’s gaze fell on that figure, a flash of recognition and disbelief appeared in her eyes as she whispered,
"Aunt Lin?"
Her voice was low but filled with incredulity and doubt as she wondered how what she was seeing could be possible.
After all, she knew Lin Xian was only a soul fragment, and as far as she knew, she could live only in the sea of consciousness or similar containers.
A few days ago, her master had told her that he would move Lin Xian into his sea of consciousness because he needed her for something.
She had no idea what it was, and when she tried asking, he simply said it was a surprise.
For the first time in a long while, she felt a strange sense of emptiness and silence in her mind. She wasn’t used to it, and she didn’t deny that she felt a little lonely. But that feeling didn’t last long, since her mind was quickly flooded with various matters regarding the business, and she focused on all of that until today.
A wide smile bloomed on her face, and with a sudden burst, she rushed toward Lin Xian, throwing herself at her and hugging her tightly.
"Aunt, you... how?" she asked quickly while feeling their bodies touch, confirming she wasn’t an illusion or some sort of projection, but truly Lin Xian in flesh and blood.
Seeing the girl she had watched over for so long hugging her so affectionately, Lin Xian felt happy as she returned the embrace and patted her head.
"Ha ha ha, I’ve only been away for a few days, and you already missed me," she said, happy to see the little elf girl.
She had also missed her a little over the past days, though unlike Ye Ning, it had been more time for her, as she stayed in the Secret Realm all that time, where the time flow differently.
"Well, it so happens that your father found my old weapon and used it to create this body," she added, already ready to ramble on about various things, but she had to stop when she felt Ye Ning’s body tremble.
With a confused expression, she looked at her, only to find the girl staring at her with a petrified look.
"Did I say something wrong?" she muttered, wondering if it had something to do with what she had just said. But before she could even begin to think more about it,
Ye Ning’s eyes, which seemed lost for a moment, focused on her once more, this time with greater intensity. With an uncertain, trembling gaze, as if afraid of asking what she was about to ask, she spoke,
"M-my father?" she said simply. But that alone was enough to trigger something in Lin Xian’s mind.
The elf girl looked at Ye Ning, then cast a glance toward Zhu Rong, who had already approached them, meeting his eyes from within her gaze.
The moment she did, a thought popped into her mind, and her expression twisted.
’Don’t tell me... this b*stard still hasn’t told her.’
She stared at Zhu Rong with deadpan eyes.
Zhu Rong, seeing this, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, thinking that he should’ve expected something like this from Lin Xian.
Among the three of them, the one who talked the most with absolutely no filter was undoubtedly the elf girl.
This habit of hers had often dragged them into trouble in the past, once even provoking the fury of beings stronger than all of them combined.
Many were the times the three ended up in deadly battles, all because of her tendency to say whatever she thought straight to people’s faces, regardless of who they were.
He had planned to calm the situation a little before talking to Ye Ning, but now, seeing how things had turned out, he could only shake his head.
’Oh well, what’s done is done,’ he thought as he approached the two.
Lin Xian, realizing the situation, looked at Ye Ning, who was still waiting for an answer, and sighed as she said,
" haa, I think I should give you two some space to talk alone."
And before the other could say anything else, Lin Xian vanished from her spot, leaving behind a still confused Ye Ning.
As she stepped back, Ye Ning felt Zhu Rong approaching. With a trembling, confused gaze, she looked up at him as he crouched down to her level.
He placed a hand gently on her right shoulder, sensing her tremble.
At his touch, she seemed to relax just a little, and he held her gaze, looking steadily into her eyes.
"This isn’t how I wanted this conversation to happen, but perhaps it’s for the best," he said, his expression briefly defeated before settling into a more serious one.
His eyes locked onto hers as he spoke again, softly but firmly,
"I am your father."
