Chapter 106: Lucien Wants Sera’s Help!
CHAPTER 106: LUCIEN WANTS SERA’S HELP!
"Oh? Is this...alright?"
Sera was surprised that the Goldveil family wanted to withdraw their business from the Edoria Kingdom.
To be honest, she didn’t know much about Goldveil as they never crossed paths with each other.
All she knew about was Malcolm, a peak Weaver rank beast master. Even the unusual origin of Goldveil was mentioned by Dorian on the passing.
So, she thought Duke Castor sniping at their business in his duchy or even the entire kingdom secretly, was a checkmate for them.
She thought there would be war or whatnot between them. That’s why she hurriedly ran to meet him, trying to help with whatever she had.
"Won’t the loss be too big?"
If a family that stood high due to its business lost one-third of its territory all of a sudden, how long could it stand?
Even if Sera was a little slow, she could understand what kind of message it would give the outer world.
To be honest, she was a little worried.
"Haha...don’t worry. We, Goldveils, don’t value this little wealth much. People have a wrong perception of us."
Lucien laughed as if he didn’t care whether he lost everything in the Edoria Kingdom.
And Sera could see that Lucien was serious. He really didn’t seem to care at all, even if he did lose all the wealth overnight.
"Are you...sure?"
It was hard to believe that was the case, though. The wealth accumulated by Goldveils was so much that even a Duke would salivate.
How could Lucien or his family not feel any pain at all?
Sera felt that Lucien was gaslighting her and couldn’t help but ask in a scrutinizing look as if trying to spot his lie.
"Otherwise?"
But Lucien didn’t care whether she believed him or not, as he wasn’t gaslighting her anyway, at least on his behalf.
If his father or grandfather knew his thoughts, they might freak out, though. After all, they wanted him to gather all his wealth, not squander it away like Lucien wanted to do right now.
"Actually, now that you are here, I have something to ask of you."
Lucien turned serious all of a sudden, shifting the topic entirely.
He wasn’t joking when he said he didn’t value this bit of wealth he owned in the Edoria Kingdom.
And unlike what his father and grandfather thought, he wasn’t going to order everyone to gather wealth, either.
From the beginning, his focus was entirely on his broken system, which was ready to extract the debts everyone owed to him.
"Oh? What do you want?"
Sera saw Lucien being serious and hurriedly listened. She couldn’t help but feel a little happy that he asked for help from her.
’Isn’t this how we depend on each other?’
She thought, smiling all of a sudden, in a good mood. She even snuggled a little closer to Lucine’s chest, making him confused.
But Lucien ignored her behaviour and quickly said what he had in his mind,
"Since you are the Eldest Princess, you must have a good connection, right?"
Lucien asked first as he didn’t know much about Sera. He just met her yesterday and didn’t even know her name before that.
After all, he was a useless dandy before his transmigration.
"Hmm? I do know a few people at the top."
Sera nodded and then, suddenly, as if realizing something, she curled her hair around her fingers with a face full of awkwardness, and said in a low voice,
"But...don’t expect me to gather support for you. Although I am a princess, my power is very limited. I can’t force them to join and put pressure on a duke."
She thought Lucien was asking for her help. To be honest, if she could, she would have done that without even asking.
But she knew how much worth she had. Although her potential was high, it was just potential.
Moreover, politics wasn’t her forte, and her rude and angry behavior was never a good basis to form a relationship anywhere.
People gave her honor solely because of her Phoenix bloodline and her status, nothing else.
She had already done everything she could do by ordering her handful of subordinates.
"No, idiot, not that kind of help."
Lucien rolled his eyes at Sera thinking too much and flicked her glabella with his finger, causing her to wince in pain.
"Who said I want your help to put pressure on the duke?"
He asked, speechless.
"Then...what do you want?"
Sera asked, rubbing her forehead in pain, clearly annoyed.
"Do you know some top mercenaries? Assassins will do too. But they have to be a hidden force, not attached to any powerful faction."
Lucien asked again, a clear sharpness in his eyes.
When he promised his father and grandfather that he would solve this war and had a plan, he wasn’t joking.
Just that, his plan was a little skewed and out of common sense, which he didn’t dare to share with them immediately.
Otherwise, after knowing it, they might not even allow him to own the business in the Edoria kingdom.
"Mercenaries? Assassins?"
Sera was taken aback by Lucien’s words, but then, all of a sudden, a spark of light flared in her eyes.
She felt that she finally understood Lucien’s plan.
"Are you trying to hire them to attack important figures of the Lionheart family? Yeah...if you managed to kill some of them, your family will clearly have an upper hand."
"And you can also stop the theft of the warehouses with the help of Mercenaries."
"But they are Mercenaries after all, and no match for the trained army. Not to mention their loyalty...however, you can still stand your ground if you are smart enough."
Sera analyzed rapidly, letting out her thoughts in front of Lucien.
"But hiring them might be hard. After all, they are aware that Duke Castor is behind this attack. The risk is too high."
"The cost will be exponential, and the result might not be as good as you want."
"You might even cause the conflict to escalate further with no gain. It is basically a double-edged swor-Ouch! Why are you hitting me again?"
Sear was relentless as she began to analyze every angle in a loud voice, talking nonstop. She even concluded that hiring external help this time might not be a good idea, both cost-wise and risk-wise.
Lucien never knew Sera could be this clever. Only, Unfortunately, she was completely off the point.
So, he couldn’t help flicker between her eyebrows to stop her ramblings,
"Okay, can you stop for a second? Seriously, stop using too much of your brain. You look better that way."
He mercilessly scolded Sera, causing her to pout in disappointment. Wasn’t she thinking about him and helping him analyze his plan?
Why was he scolding her again?
"Sigh...I know everything you said, and I have considered everything."
Lucien could see that Sera was thinking about him, so he caressed her hair with appreciative eyes.
"But, I have my own plans. So, all you have to do is help me gather them together. Of course, you cannot let them know you are behind this, but use the name of my Goldveil family instead."
He said with a sharp eye,
"Let the news out that the Goldveil family wants to retaliate against the Lionheart family’s tyranny with all their strength and will offer very hefty rewards."
"Gold, mana stones, crystals, and even magical weapons...you can gain anything as long as you have the guts to help in this war."
Lucien looked at Sera and said in a solemn voice,
"Try to draw as many higher rank mercenaries and assassins as you can tonight from your connections and arrange the meeting to be held in a secret place."
He then flicked his finger, throwing the same mana ring given by Sera to her again, and ordered,
"If you feel that they wouldn’t believe or have no intention of taking a risk, tell them there is a reward for just attending the meeting tonight based on thier strength. You can use everything inside this ring."
"Don’t try to be thrifty. I want as many people as possible to gather."
He warned Sera, seeing her confused look, to make her understand the seriousness.
He knew that the idea of hiring powerful mercenaries and assassins wasn’t a joke. They weren’t idiots who would believe everything.
That’s why he wanted Sera to help him here. Even without using her own name, he believed that she could do what he wanted discreetly.
After all, no matter what, she was the eldest princess of the kingdom.
"Lucien...w-what are you trying to do?"
Sera saw how serious he was and couldn’t help but ask in confusion.
Gather as many people as possible? And that, too, the highest-ranking ones?
Even use the extra initial reward to force them to attend the meeting?
Even with her low intelligence, she could tell it was nothing but stupidity and a waste of resources.
But not wanting to get flicked on the forehead by his finger again, she simply asked directly.
"Don’t worry about anything. Just do as I say, and it has to be tonight."
Lucien didn’t elaborate and simply ordered Sera.
"Like I said, this little wealth we have in the Edoria Kingdom is really nothing. Didn’t that Lionheart family want to crush our family and make us look weak? I’ll let them see what massive wealth can do."
Still, to avoid making Sera suspicious, he offered her a plausible reason so she wouldn’t think too much about it.
