Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!
Chapter 140: Demanding Repayment for Kindness
CHAPTER 140: CHAPTER 140: DEMANDING REPAYMENT FOR KINDNESS
Stella Grant thought Silas Sutton should get into multi-level marketing.
With his knack for persuasion, he could definitely make a name for himself in that kind of organization.
After Silas Sutton spoke, seeing that Stella Grant didn’t respond, he lightly brushed his fingertip against the corner of his lips and said with a half-smile, "Don’t tell me you’re truly in love with Ray Woods, even if he doesn’t like you, you still like him just the same."
Stella Grant, "..."
This kind of idiotic statement was something Stella Grant couldn’t say.
What true love invincible, loving someone deeply and unwaveringly whether they love you or not.
In her eyes, that wasn’t true love; it was having water in the brain, and not just a little, but at least half the Pacific Ocean.
Life is short, no one should have to sacrifice themselves for someone else.
Silas Sutton, "Why so quiet?"
Stella Grant, "Not as devoted as President Sutton."
Silas Sutton chuckled noncommittally, "I am indeed very devoted."
Stella Grant sarcastically, "Indeed, if I remember correctly, President Sutton’s record for changing girlfriends is once every thirty-two days."
Silas Sutton slightly raised his eyebrows, pressed his tongue against one cheek, and half-closed his eyes, refusing to admit, "Really?"
Whether or not Silas Sutton actually had a record of changing thirty-two girlfriends a month, Stella Grant didn’t know, nor could she verify.
She mainly got these gossip tidbits from Sue Woods.
Sue Woods worked at a fashion magazine, and every day she interacted with various celebrities and models, among them Silas Sutton’s rumored girlfriends.
Once you hear something enough times, it’s hard not to know about it.
She knew, so naturally, Stella Grant also knew.
Perhaps feeling guilty under Stella Grant’s gaze, after Silas Sutton said this, he slowly withdrew his hand from her chin and got back to business, "If it’s convenient, could you probe Auntie’s thoughts for me tomorrow?"
Stella Grant leaned back against the sofa, "About the old Adler estate?"
Silas Sutton strode to sit in an armchair on the other side, "Yes."
Stella Grant frowned and said, "My mom is definitely not in the know."
Back then, The Grant Family was in chaos; Lynn Adler couldn’t possibly have had the energy to deal with anything else.
Silas Sutton said in a deep voice, "I know, don’t worry, I’m not doubting Auntie. I’m just interested in the old Adler estate. You, being half an Adler, never even heard of this estate, aren’t you curious?"
Stella Grant replied honestly, "Not curious."
Silas Sutton smiled, rarely showing seriousness, "Then just help me out."
Stella Grant couldn’t remember the last time she saw Silas Sutton being this serious, so much so that she was momentarily distracted. After a few seconds, she agreed with a smile, "Consider it settling a favor."
Silas Sutton teased, "Which favor?"
Stella Grant tugged at the corner of her lips, "The time you helped me at Omni."
Silas Sutton, "Counting it that precisely?"
Stella Grant said, "When you take someone’s help, it’s hard to refuse their request."
Meaning, if she hadn’t received so many benefits from him, she wouldn’t have to let him manipulate her now.
After chatting for over ten minutes, Stella Grant started looking at the clock on the wall.
Seeing Stella Grant glancing at the clock five or six times, Silas Sutton teased, "So eager to get rid of me?"
Stella Grant’s expression remained calm, "I wouldn’t dare to be too obvious."
Silas Sutton teased, "Not obvious enough?"
Your eyes are practically glued to the clock.
Stella Grant said, "I’ve held back, after all, I still owe President Sutton lots of favors; I can’t go too far with a benefactor."
Moreover, this benefactor always expects something in return for his kindness.
Hearing Stella Grant’s implication, Silas Sutton chuckled, "Have you ever seen someone grateful for a favor act like you?"
Stella Grant said blandly, "I’ve never seen someone who grants favors be so clingy to the recipient either."
The two of them were at odds with each other, and Stella Grant was ready to stand her ground with Silas Sutton all night, but unexpectedly, Silas Sutton fell silent. He tapped his distinct fingers twice on the armrest of the sofa, then got up and walked out, "I’m leaving."
Stella Grant hadn’t figured out what was going on when Silas Sutton stepped out.
Watching the door close behind him, Stella Grant felt a strange sense of unreality.
Did he change his personality?
After confirming that Silas Sutton had indeed left, Stella Grant sat on the sofa for a while, then picked up her phone to text Sue Woods: Silas Sutton was just here; I said those things for him to hear.
Sue Woods replied instantly: Oh, that’s what it was, scared me to death. So, did Silas Sutton believe it?
Stella Grant: He heard the voice message you sent at the end.
Sue Woods: ...
Sue Woods, at this moment, was miserably picking green onions out of noodles at Ben Lawson’s place.
Seeing Stella Grant’s message, she twitched her mouth twice, and a thought flashed through her mind: Troubles arise when you speak too much, worries come from sticking your neck out.
