Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!
Chapter 142: Tears for the Listener
CHAPTER 142: CHAPTER 142: TEARS FOR THE LISTENER
Silas’s words left Stella Grant stunned.
Silas’s father’s mistress once took photos at the Adler family’s old house.
Later, all four of the Sutton family’s grandchildren were kidnapped to that house.
Could this kidnapping case be related to that mistress?
Love affairs can be terrifying when one thinks about them deeply during moments of madness.
After Silas finished speaking, seeing Stella remain silent, he joked with a mix of seriousness and teasing, "Stella, if my dad’s mistress is one of your relatives, would you feel an additional layer of guilt while being grateful to me?"
Stella replied, "President Sutton, you shouldn’t be in real estate. I think you should open a media company."
Silas joked, "Hmm?"
Stella said, "You have a great imagination. I think with your abilities, you could definitely create a masterpiece."
Silas chuckled, "Alright, when the time comes, you can help me."
Stella said, "I’ll pass, I don’t have that kind of talent."
Just as Stella finished speaking, she arrived at the place to buy lunch and was about to hang up when she heard Silas lazily say over the phone, "I spent the entire night in the car, and now my whole body aches."
After Silas finished speaking, there was a moment of silence on the call.
Then, Stella smiled, "Then you should rest a bit more."
Having said that, Stella tapped her finger on the screen and immediately hung up.
Hearing the silence on the line, Silas raised an eyebrow, twirled the phone in his hand, and laughed softly with his chin resting on his hand.
In reality, Silas wasn’t in the car at all; he was at the clubhouse last night.
Beside him, Orion Xavier saw his expression and whispered to the bodyguard next to him, "Don’t you think our fourth brother looks quite lewd with that expression?"
On the other side, Stella bought lunch and, while eating, told Lynn Adler about her plan to return to Veridia.
Lynn’s eyes were full of reluctance, but she smiled and said, "Yes, go back. You’ve just transferred to Sutton Group. Don’t keep taking leave, or you might annoy your boss."
Stella reassured her, "It’s okay, I’m just taking normal leave."
Stella booked a flight for 7:30 the next morning and wouldn’t have the chance to have breakfast with Lynn, so she stayed at the hospital until the lights went out before leaving.
Back home, Stella took a hot shower and went to bed early to rest.
Having not slept well the previous night, she fell asleep as soon as she hit the bed and slept until dawn.
Early the next morning, Stella got up at 6:30, packed, and called Lynn on the way to the airport.
Lynn repeatedly urged her to be careful on the road and subtly inquired about Ray Woods’s family.
Stella understood what she was implying and, looking at the scenery outside the car window, said, "Mom, right now, I just want to pay off my debts and bring you to Veridia after your surgery. I have no plans to marry."
Lynn couldn’t help but choke up, "I understand, but the surgery..."
The surgery was risky, and she was afraid that if something went wrong on the operating table, Stella wouldn’t be able to handle the blow.
Mid-sentence, Stella interrupted her, "The surgery will definitely go smoothly."
Lynn felt a lump in her throat, "Okay."
By the time Stella returned to Veridia, it was already noon.
As soon as she got home from the taxi, she received a call from Sue Woods.
Sue sounded weak and feeble, "Stella, are you back?"
Stella replied while unpacking her suitcase, "Just got back. What’s up?"
Sue pitifully said, "I want to come over for a meal."
Stella was surprised, "You’re not working today?"
Sue sniffed and replied, "Don’t mention it. You’ll find out when we meet."
An hour later, Sue arrived wearing sunglasses, bringing provisions with her.
Stella, dressed in a home slip dress, opened the door for her. Seeing the large bags Sue was carrying, she couldn’t help but laugh, "Bought so much, how many days were you hungry?"
Sue shook her head, stepping in as if walking on cotton, dropped her belongings on the floor, and took off her sunglasses. Pointing to her panda-like dark circles, she said, "I need to replenish."
Seeing Sue’s haggard appearance, Stella couldn’t help laughing, "Were you out stealing coal last night?"
Sue’s smile was more like a grimace, "Stealing coal would actually make money, but what I did felt like life-threatening."
Sue said this and changed into slippers, walking inside.
Reaching the sofa, she flopped down and started venting her grievances.
"Last night, Ben Lawson had two bowls of green onion lamb noodles."
Stella handed her a glass of water, "Did you make them?"
Sue shook her head, "No."
Stella, "Then what do his eating two bowls of green onion lamb noodles have to do with you?"
Sue took a sip of water, and when she looked up, her eyes were glistening with tears, "He doesn’t eat green onions. I spent an hour and a half picking them out for him."
Stella, "..."
Sue sniffed, "Last night, I felt like Lady Annabelle’s mother, my eyes were almost burning out."
The tale of what Sue went through last night was enough to bring tears to anyone’s eyes.
As she was speaking, her phone vibrated twice in her pocket.
Sue seemed to already know what was coming, and her whole body tensed with repulsion.
After a while, she reluctantly pulled out her phone.
As expected, it was a message from Ben Lawson: Come to The Welcome Pavilion, and bring Stella.
