CHAPTER 23: CHAPTER 23: WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

In relationships, there has never been such a thing as ’strict with oneself, lenient with others’.

A person who is so strict with their own private life is unlikely to allow their partner to be a mess.

Faced with Ben Lawson’s question, Silas Sutton fell into contemplation.

What is going on between Stella Grant and Flynn Shepherd?

A partnership?

What can Flynn Shepherd give her?

While Silas Sutton was pondering, Ben Lawson, driven by curiosity, asked, "Does Stella Grant know you were the one who supported her in the past?"

Silas Sutton glanced at him, "You guess."

Ben Lawson chuckled, "Probably doesn’t know. If she did, she wouldn’t treat you like that."

Silas Sutton didn’t reply, he just bit into a cigarette.

Perhaps due to yesterday’s incident, Stella Grant signed the contract extra smoothly the next day.

Faith Ford seemed unable to muster any energy, not giving her the slightest difficulty.

After the contract was signed, the two shook hands and procedurally exchanged a ’pleasant cooperation’.

Leaving the meeting room, Stella Grant returned to her room to pack her suitcase.

The flight was booked for today, having stayed in Oakhaven for almost a week, there’s a pile of matters waiting for her in Veridia.

She finished packing her suitcase and got in the elevator; as soon as she got on, two Rhodes Group employees squeezed in.

The two didn’t notice Stella Grant or recognized her but thought she was from Omni and irrelevant to them, so they stood in front and murmured.

"Did Mr. Ford get promoted?"

"What promotion? It’s a promotion in name but not in reality."

"Why? Isn’t Mr. Ford doing well? I heard she secured several major projects with Sutton Group."

"Must have offended someone, but don’t know which bigshot got offended."

Listening to their conversation, Stella Grant remained expressionless, but inevitably started to think deeply.

Others didn’t know which bigshot Faith Ford had offended, but Stella knew it well.

The bigshot wasn’t just offended by Faith Ford; she too had offended them.

And probably deeper than Faith Ford, not shallower.

When the elevator doors opened, Stella Grant followed the two Rhodes Group staff out, walked away while checking the message she sent Silas Sutton the night before on her phone.

The chat content still lingered on her genuine apology.

Silas Sutton hadn’t replied.

Stella Grant stared at her phone for a while, closed it and put it in her pocket, left the hotel, and took a taxi to the airport.

Sitting in the car, Stella Grant rested her chin on her hand and gazed outside.

The greening in Oakhaven was done well, in this respect, better than Veridia.

But the pace of life is equally too fast, only suitable for striving, not for living.

Perhaps because she had just heard about Faith Ford in the elevator, serving as a ’cautionary tale’, Stella felt inexplicably uneasy the whole way.

To be honest, she couldn’t read Silas Sutton.

His methods were ruthless, full of scheming.

Yet in personal matters, he was surprisingly warm and considerate...

Thinking of those matters, Stella Grant couldn’t help but blush, drawing back her gaze.

The flight from Oakhaven to Veridia took roughly two hours.

When the plane arrived at Veridia, it was noon, and Stella Grant, upon exiting the airport, saw Sue Woods waving at her from a distance.

Sue Woods wore a black lace shirt paired with black trousers, along with sunglasses that covered most of her face.

Carrying her suitcase, Stella Grant approached her, lightly chuckling, "Are you here to welcome me or to mourn my passing?"

Sue Woods lowered her sunglasses with a fair index finger, "It’s pretty much the same."

Stella Grant raised an eyebrow, sensing underlying meaning in her words, "Hmm?"

Sue Woods leaned closer and linked arms with her, speaking in a low tone that seemed almost interrogative, "Tell me, did you see Silas Sutton again in Oakhaven?"

Being guided into the car by Sue Woods, Stella Grant couldn’t help but laugh, "He’s the client."

Stella Grant sat in the front passenger seat; her suitcase still outside, Sue Woods took it and put it in the trunk, then leaned over to her, "Did you two... do it again?"

Sue Woods asked ’that’ extremely cryptically.

But Stella Grant knew what she meant.

Stella Grant didn’t answer but her cheeks inevitably reddened.

Sue Woods saw this scene and understood, she leaned on the car door, "Sis, you didn’t listen to me at all, aren’t you afraid he’d seduce then kill you, then kill then seduce again, over and over..."

Sue Woods continued her words like a comedy skit, one line after another.

Seeing her seemingly relentless, Stella Grant gestured for her to ’stop’, "Stop, give me a chance to explain?"

Sue Woods straightened up, sighed theatrically, watching her with amusement, "Honesty leads to leniency."

Stella Grant, "It’s a long story."

Sue Woods, "Long story short."

Stella Grant briefly organized her words, "When you’re in this business, you’re bound to pay the price."

Sue Woods looked bewildered, "??"
