Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!
Chapter 29: The Made-up Boyfriend
CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: THE MADE-UP BOYFRIEND
Silas Sutton’s tone was like that of a scoundrel.
Ben Lawson stared at him, feeling that the words sounded familiar.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Grant brought two freshly cooked plates of dumplings to the table.
Stella Grant stepped forward to grab one with her hand, but as soon as she touched the dumpling’s edge, Mrs. Grant smacked her hand with chopsticks, "Did you wash your hands?"
Stella winced and drew back her hand with a ’tsk’,"Nothing dirty makes you sick."
Mrs. Grant looked at her with a doting smile, "Nonsense."
Stella, "Sue Woods said it."
Mrs. Grant, "Does Sue Woods know you’re blaming her behind her back for this nonsense?"
Stella laughed playfully, completely without her outside image of a strong woman, "Can’t let her know."
Mrs. Grant glared at her with a smile, "Go wash your hands."
Stella pouted, looking back longingly at the two plates of dumplings on the table as she headed to the bathroom.
After washing her hands, Stella sat at the table and reached out again, and Mrs. Grant handed her a pair of chopsticks.
Stella raised her eyes, "Mom, isn’t this called a routine."
Mrs. Grant, "I call this human civilization."
The mother and daughter hadn’t eaten together for a long time, Mrs. Grant seemed strict on the surface, but her personality was actually timid.
Because of this, Stella had no choice but to step up.
Halfway through the dumplings, Mrs. Grant picked up a dumpling for Stella and asked, "You told Flynn Shepherd you have a new boyfriend, is that true or false?"
Stella choked, knowing she couldn’t avoid it, she replied vaguely, "Uh-huh."
Mrs. Grant didn’t believe it, stared at her, "Really?"
Stella reached for the juice in front of her and took a sip, wanting to deny it, but thinking about the countless things she’d have to explain later, denial simply couldn’t be voiced.
If she told Mrs. Grant the new boyfriend was fake, Mrs. Grant would certainly ask about what Flynn Shepherd said about that night.
If that night was mentioned, then the subject of her being drugged would surely come up.
Talking about the drugging, Mrs. Grant would definitely blame herself and might even persuade her to return to Brynnfield.
It’s all a chain reaction, like a loose thread on a sweater that you can’t tug, for if you do, it ruins everything.
Thinking of this, Stella answered with a straight face, "Really."
Stella never lied to Mrs. Grant, so upon hearing her nearly unwavering tone, Mrs. Grant didn’t think much of it, only worriedly asking, "How’s the guy?"
Stella spoke off the cuff, "Pretty good."
Mrs. Grant, "What does he do?"
Stella, "Same as me."
Mrs. Grant asked curiously, "Is he also in Omni?"
This time, Stella dared not speak nonsense, "No."
Mrs. Grant, puzzled, "Then where is he?"
Stella bit her lip nervously and accidentally bit the meat in her mouth, "In Sutton Group."
There are only a few real estate companies in Veridia, Omni is out of the question, worried that Mrs. Grant might later move to Veridia and colleagues let it slip, Rhodes Group is even more out of the question, no need for others to spill the beans, Flynn Shepherd would sabotage her.
She wasn’t familiar with other companies, so only Sutton Group of Silas Sutton was left.
Upon hearing her say Sutton Group, Mrs. Grant nodded and said, "I’ve heard of it, often see it on TV, quite a big company."
Stella replied sulkily, "Uh-huh."
Mrs. Grant continued, "Your dad was thinking of partnering with Sutton Group before, contacted them several times, but then..."
As she spoke, Mrs. Grant suddenly fell silent, pressing her lips into a line.
Stella knew Mrs. Grant didn’t want to talk about Mr. Grant’s affairs in her presence, didn’t want to make it difficult for her either, so she lifted her eyes, smiled, and said, "If you don’t want to talk, let’s change the topic."
Mrs. Grant took a deep breath, adjusted her emotions, and asked, "When do you have time to bring your boyfriend home for me to meet?"
After finishing, she glanced at the calendar hanging on the wall, "How about next weekend, next weekend is a good day."
Stella, "..."
She knew she shouldn’t have asked her mother to change topics.
After Mrs. Grant finished speaking, seeing Stella silent, she sighed, "I have to take a good look at this boyfriend, Flynn Shepherd was too indulgent with you back then..."
Mentioning Flynn Shepherd, Stella felt like she’d swallowed a fly, nauseous and sick, "Uh-huh."
In the evening, Stella lay in bed after a shower, video chatting with Sue Woods.
Over the video, Sue Woods was laughing uproariously, "Hey, hahaha, where are you going to find a boyfriend to bring home to show your mom next week?"
Stella leaned against the headboard, pinching her brow in annoyance, "Don’t know."
Sue Woods winked, "Although I’ve always been against you getting involved with Silas Sutton, but given the current situation, it seems like there’s no one else but him, so if you really can’t find anyone, might as well settle, right?"
