CHAPTER 6: CHAPTER 6: MISUNDERSTANDING

Silas Sutton stood behind Stella Grant with his hands in his pockets, a mocking look flashing in his eyes.

When Stella turned around, he glanced at her condescendingly, then withdrew his gaze and turned to ask Charles Wright about the construction site.

Seeing Silas’s controlled emotions, Stella didn’t think much of it, assuming it was just a regular tease. She lowered her head and texted Flynn Shepherd: We have broken up.

Flynn replied instantly: Honey, don’t be like this. Our wedding will proceed as planned. I won’t ask about the man from last night, and you should forget our previous unpleasantness. We’re adults now. Let’s not worry the elders.

Stella: Don’t disgust me.

After sending this message, Flynn called directly.

Stella didn’t answer, pressed hang up, and immediately blocked all his contact info.

She hadn’t intended to handle things so harshly. As he said, they’re all adults, a breakup is a breakup, and they still have business dealings. There’s no need to make things awkward.

But if he tried to manipulate her using this, she wouldn’t mind turning against him.

Stella finished dealing with her personal matters, put her phone in her pocket, and turned to see Silas had already walked off with Charles.

She didn’t know what they were discussing, but she could tell from Charles’s expression that there was a serious caution mixed with an indescribable excitement.

Stella stepped closer, just in time to hear Charles praising Silas.

"Didn’t expect President Sutton to know so much?"

"Not many bosses understand these things."

Silas’s thin lips curved slightly, his deep and magnetic voice saying, "I was on construction sites for the past few years."

Charles, "Supervising?"

Silas, "I’ve done regular grunt work too."

Charles was surprised, his eyes showing even more respect.

A few steps away, Stella pressed her lips into a straight line, her gaze as calm as water, but a displeasure simmered in her eyes.

For the past few years, on construction sites.

Even did regular grunt work.

Yet doesn’t know how to fasten a safety helmet?

Leaving the construction site, Silas leaned back in his seat, rolling up his sleeves to reveal a solid forearm. Gone was the casual nonchalance, replaced by a bit more seriousness, "Manager Grant, where to next?"

Stella replied softly, "Back to the office, sorry for the trouble, President Sutton."

Silas closed his eyes for a nap, "Mm."

An hour later, the car arrived at Omni. Silas didn’t open his eyes as Stella lowered her voice to say goodbye to the driver.

The driver nodded slightly to Stella through the rearview mirror, "Take care, Manager Grant."

Stella smiled at him and opened the door to get out.

Just as Stella stepped out, Silas, who had been resting with his eyes closed, opened them, "Lynn, is there an event tonight?"

The driver turned his head in response, "Yes, the event with Rhodes Group."

The driver thought: Didn’t you say to cancel before?

Silas, "Tell them to set it for eight o’clock."

The driver was puzzled but didn’t dare to ask more, "Yes, President Sutton."

Elsewhere, after returning to the office, Stella was called into Mr. Lynch’s office.

Mr. Lynch stood with his hands on his hips, clearly on the verge of anger.

"Manager Grant, normally I shouldn’t meddle in your personal life."

"But now your personal life has seriously affected the company’s image, and I must say a few words."

"Do you know how many calls I received from partners today? Even headquarters called me several times, asking for an explanation."

Mr. Lynch is in his early forties.

Probably from years of scheming and strategizing in the business world, he had little hair left on his barren head.

At this moment, as his emotions fluctuated greatly, those few resilient hairs swayed along.

Mr. Lynch rambled on about a lot, finally fixing his gaze on Stella, "Your bonus for this month is entirely deducted. Go back and write a report to send to me."

Stella remained impassive, "Yes, Mr. Lynch."

Mr. Lynch’s anger had not subsided, "Don’t you have anything to explain to me?"

Stella, "No."

Mr. Lynch stifled a breath in his chest, "Get out!"

Leaving Mr. Lynch’s office, Stella took the elevator back to her own office. She had just sat down when she received an unfamiliar call.

Stella glanced at the screen, worried it might be an important client. She swiped her finger to answer, "Hello, who is this?"

The other party spoke, their voice filled with inexplicable excitement, "Stella, it’s me."
