Chapter 570 Xuanwu Mountain
CHAPTER 570: CHAPTER 570 XUANWU MOUNTAIN
The Wolf Kingdom is to the north of Longxia.
The further north you go, the more desolate it becomes; it’s either grassland or desert, forming two extremes.
At the border of the desert and grassland in the northern region, a large mountain stands tall and strange, because one half is covered in greenery, while the other half is bare, with not a single blade of grass growing.
However, it is precisely because of this mountain, or more accurately, because of the people on the mountain, that the fierce and warring people of the Wolf Kingdom have not dared to invade Longxia for decades.
Because this mountain is called Xuanwu Mountain, and it is home to one of Longxia’s Guardian Gods, Xuanwu.
A lonely smoke from the desert stands straight, while the long river sees the sun setting round.
The background is desolate, yet there is a unique beauty to it.
A masked figure descends from midair like a divine being, landing directly on Xuanwu Mountain.
"Old Xuanwu, come out and greet your guest."
One of the doors of the wooden houses held up by giant stakes in the air opens, and a dark figure rushes towards Qin Yi with a whooshing sound.
Qin Yi doesn’t move an inch, and suddenly a purple ripple barrier rises in front of him.
The dark figure crashes into the barrier as if hitting a calm water surface, causing ripples, then flies back, flapping its wings, it soars into the air, letting out a few sharp cries.
The attack on Qin Yi was made by a giant male eagle, with a hooked beak and razor-sharp talons, ferocious beyond compare.
The eagle soars in the air, staring intensely at Qin Yi on the ground but not daring to attack again.
Xuanwu emerges from the house.
Qin Yi grins: "I was wondering why you didn’t come out to greet your guest, turns out you were inside playing with birds."
Xuanwu almost chokes, stumbling from the corridor above, awkwardly stabilizing himself and glaring at Qin Yi unhappily.
"Why is your mouth so foul, kid?"
Qin Yi shrugs: "I adapt depending on the person: I speak like a person to humans, like a ghost to ghosts, and like a rogue to rascals."
"You should leave. I don’t want to see you." Xuanwu curls his lips, gesturing dismissively with a face full of disdain.
Qin Yi retorts: "Is this the hospitality of the grand Guardian God Xuanwu?"
"Hospitality is for guests; you’re uninvited, which makes it an invasion. Be glad I didn’t break your legs and throw you off the mountain."
Qin Yi turns his hand over, producing two bottles of liquor like magic: "You don’t hit the person who comes bearing gifts. I’m bringing a gift, so it’s not an invasion, right?"
"Take it away, I don’t drink," Xuanwu waves his hand dismissively.
"This is good stuff; I only give Erguotou to the old Azure Dragon."
"The liquor might be good, but the person isn’t. I’m afraid you might have poisoned it."
Qin Yi: "..."
"Xuanwu, you’re too modest. What poison could possibly harm you?"
Xuanwu squints, a smile creeping to his lips: "That’s true. You do know how to talk, kid."
Qin Yi rolls his eyes, this shameless old guy.
"Wait here, I’ll go prepare some food."
Xuanwu goes upstairs into a room.
Qin Yi places the liquor on the small wooden table not far in front and surveys his surroundings out of boredom.
The setting sun dyes the entire Xuanwu Mountain in golden-red colors.
This mountain, because of its inhabitants, makes those from the Wolf Kingdom wary. Qin Yi suddenly feels a surge of grand ambition. One day, he will make those scoundrels quake at the mere mention of his name, Qin Yi.
"Kid, what are you skulking around for? Planning to steal from me?"
Qin Yi’s grand ambitions deflate like a punctured balloon.
"You call grand ambition skulking around? Do you even know how to chat?" Qin Yi turns around, full of disdain, "Besides, this place is so poor that a thief would leave in tears. What’s worth stealing here?"
Qin Yi approaches: "Weren’t you going to prepare food? How are you back this fast?"
"It’s ready, three dishes and one soup, VIP treatment."
"Seems you do have a conscience, giving you two bottles of good liquor wasn’t in vain..."
When Qin Yi sees the dish on the table, his eyes almost pop out... peanuts, pickled radish, salted vegetables...
"Why not just strangle me? Is this what you’re serving me? Are you feeding rabbits?"
Xuanwu rolls his eyes: "There’s meat in the kitchen, but I can’t cook. You want to do it yourself? Ever since you tricked away my silly apprentice, there’s been no one to cook me a decent meal. Want to give it a try?"
"Funny, I can’t cook either."
"Lazy to the bone."
Qin Yi bares his teeth: "If you don’t believe me, I’ll cook you something. It might not be poisoned, but it would be as bad, and you’d croak even if you were a thousand-year-old tortoise or ten-thousand-year-old turtle."
Xuanwu twitches his mouth, plopping into a chair: "Then stop whining. Don’t beg for food and then complain it tastes bad."
Qin Yi sits down, knocking on the table: "You said three dishes and one soup; the three dishes are here, where’s the soup?"
Xuanwu points towards the liquor Qin Yi brought on the table.
Qin Yi is baffled for a long time, gritting his teeth and sticking his thumb up: "You’re ruthless."
Xuanwu grabs two bowls, fills them with liquor, and hands the one with a chipped edge to Qin Yi, casually asking: "Kid, what are you doing here?"
"Just passing through, thought I’d drop by and see how the Guardian God Xuanwu lives. In hindsight, should’ve just kept going."
"I didn’t invite you." Xuanwu smirks, raising his bowl for a sip, smacking his lips: "This liquor is good. You said you’re just passing through?"
Qin Yi nods.
"You’re fooling someone, right? If you keep going north, you’ll cross the Northern Border Desert into the Wolf Kingdom."
Qin Yi takes a sip of the liquor, its fiery taste filling his mouth, and casually says: "I’m going to the Wolf Kingdom."
Xuanwu hesitates, putting down the bowl: "What are you up to now, kid? I’m telling you, all the countries have been eyeing Longxia for a long time. If they catch you, the historical conflict of the Battle of Luoshen Mountain might play out again."
"Let it play out! When one act finishes, another begins. You drove them away decades ago; now it’s our generation’s turn. If they dare come again, I promise they won’t be as lucky to escape like last time. Last time Luoshen Mountain was stained with blood; this time I’ll drown them in it."
Xuanwu’s eye muscles twitched a few times; he could tell Qin Yi meant it. This kid is ruthless, decisive in killing. If the countries dared to invade again, Luoshen Mountain might indeed be drenched in blood.
"Kid, what are you really planning in the Wolf Kingdom?"
Qin Yi asks in surprise: "You mean you don’t know? Don’t play dumb with me."
"Why would I play dumb with you? What’s really happened?"
Qin Yi looks at him in surprise: "Don’t tell me you haven’t heard about the recent trouble caused by Nan Zaixu and the others. Those three divided over a hundred experts from the young rankings and took them all to the Wolf Kingdom."
Xuanwu is shocked: "That actually happened? I just got back from Azure Dragon Mountain and haven’t caught up with the recent outside news."
With that, Xuanwu calls out: "Zebra." His voice echoes into the clouds.
Qin Yi looks at him bizarrely: "Who are you calling? Where’s the zebra?"
Just as Qin Yi finishes speaking, an eagle screeches, and the giant eagle that attacked him drops a wooden box from mid-air.
