Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 842 - 395: Reporting to the Police_3
Following the address, Luke found his house, a gray bungalow with a small yard, where the lawn was neatly trimmed, and a dark blue pickup truck parked in front of the garage.
Luke surveyed the surroundings; Port walked to the door and knocked, "Knock, knock."
After a while, the door opened.
A stocky white man in his thirties stood at the door, sizing up Luke and the others, he asked, "Who are you people?"
Port flashed a badge and introduced himself, "I'm Detective Port from the first squad of the Robbery and Murder Department, and this is our Captain Li.
We're here to investigate the Getty Museum painting heist."
"Is there something you need?"
"Are you Dolly White?"
"That's me."
"We'd like to take your statement."
"Do you know Detective Jada Landis? He already took my statement."
"I don't know the Detective Jada Landis you're talking about; we're from different departments. The Los Angeles Police Department is taking this case very seriously."
"I understand, with the Getty Museum offering a two million US Dollar reward, I'd also take it seriously if it were me." Dolly White stepped aside, "Come on in."
Dolly White led them into the living room and gestured for them to sit on the sofa, "Would you like something to drink?"
"No, thanks. We'll just chat for a bit and then leave."
"It's fine, I'm going to have something anyway; how about some black tea?"
"OK."
Dolly White went to the dining room and came back with a teapot, enthusiastically pouring tea for Luke and Port, and also for himself.
Dolly White looked at Luke, "You are the captain?"
Luke questioned back, "Don't I look like one?"
"No, just a bit young."
Port said, "Although Captain Li is not old, he's cracked many major cases and is the best detective in the city of Los Angeles.
No doubt about it."
Dolly White took a sip of tea, set down the cup, "That's great to hear; it sounds like there's hope for solving this heist after all."
Without wasting words, Luke asked directly, "Mr. Dolly White, in the early morning of December 30th, were you responsible for transporting ten paintings from the Getty Museum to Henryton Bank?"
"Yes, there were three of us in total."
"Who determined the transport route?"
"Our security company has long collaborated with the Getty Museum. The route was decided long ago, with different plans in place; this time, we went with Plan C."
"Where did you encounter the attack?"
"Less than a hundred meters from the Boli Building on Fuer Street."
"How many robbers were there at that time?"
"I only saw four."
"Didn't the three of you try to resist?"
"No, they were heavily armed. The three of us were surrounded. If we didn't get out as they demanded, we would definitely have been blown up by a rocket launcher.
We would do everything to protect the transported goods, but we're not going to throw away our lives when there's no chance of winning." Dolly White clasped the teacup with both hands, sighed, "I don't know if they have accomplices, at that time...
I had to be responsible for my companions.
If I made a wrong choice then, not only would it have killed me, but it would also have killed my two partners.
They have families, relatives waiting for them to return..."
"Knock, knock..."
Just then, there was a knock at the door outside.
"Sorry, I'll go check." Dolly White put down the teacup and got up to go to the door.
He opened the door, and outside stood two uniformed patrol officers, "Are you Mr. Dolly White?"
"Yes."
"Did you report the police just now?"
"I did."
"What happened?"
"Ah... the situation is a bit complicated. Just now, two people claiming to be from the Robbery and Murder Department showed up, but I'm not sure if they are real police officers and need you to verify."
"Where are they?"
Dolly White pointed behind him, "In my living room."
