Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 937 - 428: Collusion (Part 3)
Comparing the testimonies of the two suspects might reveal something new."
Through micro-expression analysis, Luke determined that Mo Shaohong's testimony was both true and false, a common tactic among criminals to avoid the serious while admitting the less.
He admitted guilt according to how much evidence the law enforcement had.
Expecting him to truly repent and confess all his crimes was unrealistic.
Law enforcement needs concrete evidence to judge what is true and what are lies.
Evidence is king.
The two walked to the door of the hitman's hospital room as Michael Jett also happened to step out. He asked Luke, "How's the interrogation going?"
Luke glanced around, "Let's talk somewhere else."
Louise suggested, "Let's go bother Amir; we can use his room."
Michael Jett laughed, "Good idea; he has a single room."
But we're not bothering him; we're visiting."
Everyone arrived at Amir's door, "Knock knock."
"Come in."
Amir was peeling an orange, "Hey, you all came."
"Yes, we're here to see how you're recovering." Michael Jett sat beside the hospital bed and picked up an orange from the plate.
"You're quite the carefree one."
"I'd rather not be carefree; I'm bored to death here.
Hey, did your interrogation yield any results?" Amir looked at everyone curiously.
"Tell me about it; my brain is almost rusted."
Luke recounted Mo Shaohong's testimony, saying, "Although he changed his story, based on my experience, he still hasn't fully confessed."
Louise speculated, "Could Mo Shaohong be lying about killing Zheng Lagong?"
"We can't confirm anything yet; who would willingly incriminate themselves?
We'll have to investigate ourselves."
Aamir Khan asked, "Then why not continue interrogating?"
"Mo Shaohong is a professional killer; he originally didn't leave much evidence, and we have too few bargaining chips.
Without new evidence, further interrogation would be futile.
We must first prove that he's lying."
After Luke finished speaking, he looked at Michael Jett, who was eating the orange, "Did that killer confess?"
"Yes, his name is Basong, an American-Thai, a hitman hired by Song Jinbao with a twenty-thousand-dollar deposit and another thirty thousand dollars upon completion.
Song Jinbao gave him a prepaid phone specifically for contact.
On January 27th, Song Jinbao called him to kill Chen Yue, sending the address and photo.
There was supposed to be an accomplice driving to pick him up, but that unlucky guy got shot, leaving no chance to escape."
Louise crossed her left arm under her chest and propped her right hand under her chin, saying, "Again it's Song Jinbao; it seems like he plays a crucial role in this case."
Luke said, "Mo Shaohong mentioned meeting Zhou Tiansheng early on January 24th; Zhou was murdered that night.
Song Jinbao also hired someone to kill Chen Yue.
Currently, Song Jinbao is the only one unharmed in this case."
Michael Jett speculated, "Song Jinbao is Zhou Tiansheng's trusted subordinate in New York; he should know Zhou's assets in New York.
Could he have killed Zhou Tiansheng to take over those assets?"
Luke agreed, "I think it's possible.
This aligns with Mo Shaohong's testimony; Song Jinbao has likely been by Zhou Tiansheng's side all along."
Michael Jett raised his right hand and high-fived Luke.
Louise smiled, "What are you two doing? Mutual admiration?"
"Hey, everyone, there's another person here." Aamir Khan felt somewhat ignored, "Want to hear a professional analysis?"
Michael Jett joked, "Is there someone calling 'professional' here? Why didn't I know, haha..."
Aamir Khan shrugged, "That's not funny at all.
Does no one care about my analysis?"
Michael Jett laughed, "Buddy, don't rush it. You're still a patient.
Go ahead, we're all ears."
Aamir Khan cleared his throat, "First off, Zhou Tiansheng is a gambling king; achieving such a peak in any field means he has exceptional qualities.
Okay, I'll get straight to the point; I don't believe he'd be killed by his own trusted subordinate.
What I mean is, he either completely trusted him or was wary."
Michael Jett said, "But Song Jinbao indeed hired someone to gun down Zhou Tiansheng's ex-wife Chen Yue."
"As you said, she's the ex-wife.
Zhou and Chen Yue are divorced and haven't been in contact for years.
Song Jinbao hired to kill Chen Yue doesn't necessarily mean he betrayed Zhou." Aamir Khan grew increasingly animated, gesturing as he spoke.
"Based on existing info, Chen Yue has held resentment towards Zhou.
That's why she left her wealthy husband and chose to live a simple life in Chinatown.
She and her daughter lived quite well.
Suddenly, Zhou barged into their lives again, disrupting their peace.
Is it possible that Chen Yue's old and new grudges surfaced, and she took Zhou out directly?
Hiring a hitman could be Song Jinbao avenging his boss!"
Aamir Khan's enthusiasm grew, "To sum it up, I believe there's a real possibility.
Analyzing Chen Yue's life, she's not as innocent as she seems.
She's likely a deeply hidden black widow."
Michael Jett clapped, "Good analysis; just lacking evidence for now."
Aamir Khan retorted, "Does your analysis have evidence?"
"Haha." Michael Jett chuckled and looked at Luke, "Consultant Lee, what do you think?"
Luke shook his head slightly without answering.
Meanwhile, his mind was pondering over Aamir Khan's hypothesis.
Chen Yue killing Zhou, and Song Jinbao hiring someone to eliminate Chen Yue—isn't impossible.
However, Luke thought Aamir Khan's analysis lacked sufficient motive.
From interactions with Chen Yue, Luke sensed she was a mature woman, unlikely to kill out of old grudges, especially with a daughter to raise!
If she were to commit murder, it would have been for hers and her daughter's safety or interests.
Zhou hid assets under other names, possibly including Chen Yue and their daughter.
Now with Zhou's downfall, it might also impact Chen Yue and her daughter Chen Ning.
Could Chen Yue have killed Zhou for the sake of hers and her daughter's interests, making Zhou's hidden assets entirely theirs now?
Luke pondered for a moment, feeling this was a plausible scenario.
Yet, Zhou wasn't foolish; if deeply entangled with his ex-wife, he'd have been vigilant.
As per Aamir Khan's speculation, Zhou would be wary of Song Jinbao.
Why would he completely trust his ex-wife?
And solely relying on Chen Yue, it's hard to overpower, interrogate, and ultimately kill Zhou if he was cautious.
She must have had help.
And this help could very well be Song Jinbao.
Song Jinbao had managed assets for Zhou in the US for a long time, having the chance to connect with Chen Yue, possibly already in cahoots.
No matter how smart Zhou was, facing betrayal from his wife and subordinates would be hard to survive.
As for why Song Jinbao wanted Chen Yue dead, it was likely to hog all assets or worry about being exposed by Chen Yue.
Thus, all clues point to Song Jinbao.
Finding Song Jinbao might just lead us to Zhou's stash of illicit wealth.
