Love After Divorce: Her Second Chance
Chapter 112; Thank you
CHAPTER 112: CHAPTER 112; THANK YOU
He pushed the window open himself and stepped inside in a smooth, silent motion, bringing the cold night air with him.
THE MAN.
Black suit, gloved hands, no trace of rain on him now despite the downpour outside.
He was a contradiction, elegant and terrifying. He exuded control, but something was visibly seething beneath it tonight.
Fang Lin swallowed hard. "Uncle..."
He didn’t respond right away. His eyes scanned the apartment, her apartment was fancy and he had furnished it himself, but looking at it, he wondered what could have gone down there.
"What happened to your place? Do you have a boyfriend?" Who could do such kind of damage? How can she have a boyfriend and he doesn’t know it? People could think they were never closer but he knew everything that goes around her every single day, he knows where she works, who she has been with during the day and if she had such a violent boyfriend, he would just get rid of him.
He funds her lifestyle because she was her only brother’s daughter, he had left behind before death. He didn’t want to restrict her and he knew she was afraid of him, thus, he had kept distance.
"Shen Xiao had come to take her back the other day when she ran away, they fiercely fought, she didn’t want to go back, she could only use these things against him but still we were powerless! I couldn’t stop him!" She hysterically broke down, emotions she didn’t know she was holding in.
His expression didn’t change.
Not when she cried.
Not when she clutched her arms around herself like a shield.
But something shifted in the air, a drop in pressure, a tightening of the space between them.
Then, quietly, he asked, "Did he touch and hurt her?"
Fang Lin froze.
Her mouth opened, then closed again.
Her voice trembled as she finally said, "She was screaming and he knocked her out. I tried to stop him, I swear, but he threatened to hurt me too."
Silence.
He took one slow step forward, rain still dripping faintly from his coat hem, the scent of storm and danger clinging to him.
Fang Lin backed away instinctively.
"I really tried!" She knew no one would believe her but she tried her best.
"It took you three days to tell me? Okay, where is your phone? Call all the numbers you know are connected to her...." He settled down on the couch, "Jin Zhou, get our men ready...." Today seemed like their would be blood.
Morally and legally, it wasn’t right to take someone’s wife but if she was in danger, there were no options left.
Fang Lin scrambled for her phone with trembling fingers, unlocking it and dialing the last numbers she’d tried in desperation. Her voice cracked as she muttered into each call, "Have you seen Yueyao? Please, tell me where she is. Anything."
But each attempt ended the same.
Disconnected. Out of service. No answer.
She looked up helplessly, tears lining her eyes. "They’re all gone. Her number... the security around Shen Xiao’s estate... everything’s changed. It’s like I won’t be able to connect to her!"
The man on the couch remained still, like a shadow carved from obsidian. Jin Zhou stood to the side, waiting for orders.
He reached out a gloved hand, and Fang Lin hesitated before passing him her phone.
He tapped quickly, and within seconds, a deep tone emitted from the speaker. A scrambled call. One Fang Lin couldn’t trace even if she tried.
"Sector Three. All recon eyes on D City perimeter. I want full visuals on Shen Xiao’s estate and cross-reference movement from all registered sedans in the last seventy-two hours. Activate Silent Protocol."
He ended the call and handed the phone back to her.
"Uncle, what are we going to go?" She was so nervous! And felt like time was running...
"Be patient...." He calmly sat there while Jin Zhou made preparations.
SHEN MANSION – NIGHT
The storm had passed, but the house was unnaturally quiet, the kind of quiet that presses against the ears and weighs on the chest.
Yueyao stirred beneath the blankets, eyes blinking slowly into the soft glow of the bedside lamp. For the first time in hours, her expression wasn’t blank or afraid, just tired. But clear.
She sat up carefully, the silk sheets falling away from her shoulders, her body stiff but steadier. The nausea had faded. Her skin was still clammy, but her mind... sharper.
She turned her head slightly toward the door.
"Xiao Ning," she said, voice low but even. She could read names since they had badges.
One of the younger maids approached cautiously. "Yes, Miss Yueyao?"
"Can I have your phone? Just for a few minutes. I won’t call anyone... I just want to listen to something, maybe a meditation app or music. It helps me sleep."
The maid hesitated for a moment, "I’m not sure...."
"You will stay right here," Yueyao added softly, a weak smile tugging at her lips. "And I will give it back to you. I promise."
There was something in her tone. Fragile, but persuasive. It was real and touching.
Reluctantly, Xiao Ning handed over her personal device.
"Five minutes then, that’s enough," she murmured. "If the head maid finds out..."
"I know," Yueyao said, nodding. "Thank you."
"Okay..." With the maid around, Yueyao played music, seeing she was okay, the maid walked away.
As soon as the maid turned her back and stepped out into the hallway to fetch the warmed meal tray, Yueyao’s fingers moved fast. She navigated through the phone’s dial pad and immediately called Fang Lin’s number, she always had it overhead!"
When this unknown number called Fang Lin, she immediately received because she has been worrying, and didn’t care who it could be, she couldn’t miss a slightest chance to connect to Yueyao....
And Yueyao knew, no one was gonna help her, even if she could the police officers, her condition would only worsen, Shen Xiao’s powers stretched, and even before the police officers did anything they would call him to confirm things... And that would make things even worse for herself.
